Scoop: Paula Abdul in talks to star in flash mob dancing series for NBC!

paula-abdul-newsImage Credit: Kevin Winter/Getty ImagesHere we go again: Just a week after she turned down a lucrative offer from ABC to star in a reboot of Star Search, ex-American Idol judge Paula Abdul is in talks with NBC to headline a new reality series set in the world of flash mob dancing.

I. Kid. You. Not. I. Swear. For. Real. The. Deets…

Sources confirm that the project — which is being produced by the folks behind The Biggest Loser (but does not feature a weight loss component) — would find Abdul and dance God Kenny Ortega (High School Musical, This Is It, etc) choreographing mass dances in public locations.

Although a network rep declined to comment, a Peacock insider stresses that a deal is far from done. Loosely translated, Abdul could very well do to them what she did to ABC.

Thoughts? Was Abdul smart to pass on Star Search for this?

That looks like Michael Jackson with a bad wig!

    • Matt

Hey! They changed the photo! She looks human in this one.

      • dryedmangoez

Haha, the first picture really was horrible.

      • your name sucks

Really? ‘cuz that’s still Michael with a wig.

      • Matt

You should have seen the 1st pic. It looks like something a cheap tabloid would use when they break a scandal.

      • jeff

I was gonna make a remark about you, but you saved it with your second line. Thats funny.

  • michael

Is there anything that Paula isn’t in talks to do? It’s like the network version of Where’s Waldo? She’ll probably end up hosting a monster truck show on Spike TV.

Better her than that fat, ugly Rosie McDonalds.

      • michael

Yeah, because most people would prefer drug-addled idiots to fat and ugly, right? jerk.

      • Christie

Michael, you’re the jerk. She’s neither.

      • michael

Christie…I won’t take that as an insult because only an idiot would believe that “she’s neither.”

  • Mike

Is this all smoke and mirrors to pretend like she is actually trying to do other things when really she is going to be on X Factor?

    • Sally in Chicago

She’s making a mint with her QVC jewelry, I don’t think Paula wants to do TV anymore unless it’s guest shots.

    • flower

I think she could do both if she makes a deal. Simon does multiple shows (British versions) at a time. So do Len and Bruno on DWTS.

  • dryedmangoez

That actually sounds pretty fun. Maybe something to keep her busy until The X Factor.

  • Lucky

No. ABC is where it is at!

The world of Flash Mob anything peaked in 2007. your agent

    • crispy

Welcome to three years ago, Paula Abdul.

      • your name sucks

        2007 is Paula’s present. She’s been in a drug-induced coma…remember her addiction?

    • Michael

Oh Hello producer of the X Factor!!!! :D

  • kt

I would totally watch this show. I don’t care if Paula’s on it or not. Flash mobs are the best thing ever!

  • Carmen

Yawn!!! Wake me up when she backs out of the talks and ends up on X Factor.

  • Nshi

Ugh. I hate flash mobs. All those kids with their “show us your boobies” signs. That got old in fourth grade.

  • Sally in Chicago

I.Know.You.Kid.Not….but you know Paula’s track record? I highly doubt it…

  • Andrew

She’ll probably back out of this negociation also.

Please. I think they are vastly over-estimating Abdul’s appeal. Perhaps if it were 1987 this would be exciting news to her fans but at this point she is known more for her pain killer addiciton and completely loopy behavior on American Idol than a pop icon. People did not tune in to American Idol to watch Abdul, which is evident given that the ratings for Idol remain the same even though she is gone.

    • Fred

Idol ratings are not as high this season. Many people I know don’t watch it as often because they miss Paula. She did have a unique chemistry with Simon that is now lacking.

      • Josh Emerson

Idol ratings have barely went down this season. I believe the figure I read was 6%. And when the entire TV landscape is down, 6% is practically golden. Idol is NOT hurting in the ratings.

      • michael

I’m sure that it has nothing to do with the worst final 12 ever. People are tuning out because Paula is gone, not because Tim Urban makes their ears bleed. Hmmm.

      • showurite

        tee hee

  • Generation Gossip

I love Paula but I think this is a tactic to improve her position when she goes to negotiate for the x factor.

    Check Out

    • Beth

Bet the ink has been dry on her X-Factor contract for months. Don’t let Simon and Paula fool you. They have plans, and they will come out eventually. And I mean THEY will come out LITERALLY!!!

  • Mothra

Yeah, stupid people will watch anything. The ratings may be the same, but the talent sure as shootin’ isn’t! She was the evil dark goddess genius behind Idol. And now we all know it. But for sure, she’ll end up back with Simon.

What the heck is flash mob dancing?!
