Exclusive: Katherine Heigl on being 'disappointed' in herself and the truth behind Emmygate

Before we get to the excerpt from my exclusive Katherine Heigl exit interview/cover story, let’s talk, shall we, about what you’re really here for: what isn’t Read the full post.

I think she is trying to make things right! I like it!

“I wouldn’t want to sacrifice my relationship with my child.” Horse hockey. She thinks she’ll have a career in movies, when by 2014 she’ll be just another less-than-fresh-faced washout looking for another stable TV gig. And that oh-so-magical mom-child relationship stuff makes me sick. What about your husband, Katie…? Oh, I forgot: once “THE CHILD” comes along, the man just has to step aside and suck it up. (And before y’all start screaming “Misogynist!”: I’m a woman.)

still don’t like her. just standard PR. I don’t believe this sudden change of heart about what she says and does. still same old Heigl in my book.

  • Wendy

Honestly, I think she did this interview to save face.
I think she made a huge mistake leaving Grey’s the way she did. She should’ve not done the movie and instead finished out the season with Grey’s. She could’ve left with her head held high instead of with her tail between her legs begging for forgiveness from her fans. I think that would’ve been better.
Grey’s made her a household name and look at how she’s treated it. Zero respect for the show. Zero respect for the fans that love and adore her and her character Izzie. No ending for our beloved couple Alex and Izzie.
I’m very disappointed and pissed off!
I think she’s wanted off the show for a long time so she could focus more on movies. That’s fine. But she could’ve finished the season and given fans a proper ending.
She’s really changed my opinion of her and not for the better.

I read the whole interview and it did not improve my opinion of her one ounce. She basically quit her job and once again placed the writers of the show that gave her a big break in a bad spot. No matter how they do it; Shonda is going to be given grief over how Izzie’s departure is handled. I also hated the portion of the interview where she spoke about Isiah Washington. She again sounded very superior and flip; the man made a terrible mistake but partly because of her loud mouth-his entire career was ruined. Also I think it goes without saying that she has not made a good movie since Knocked Up. The article just confirmed for me that her ego is larger than her talent.

I wish the article had mentioned that she acted the same way on Roswell as she did on Grey’s. She bad mouthed the show and the writing on both shows. She seems to like to cut her nose off to spite her face. It seems that nothing will ever be good enough to make her happy. I don’t buy the apology – it’s just PR to save her image.

    • Lala

LOL to be fair, I think ALL of the actors on Roswell pretty much bad mouthed the show.
This is spin and PR to tell “her side” of the story and clear the air. She has acted extremely ungrateful in the past. She HAS bashed everything that has made her famous (notably, Grey’s and Knocked Up.) Only time will tell if her apology is an act.

  • Mandy

BS. I don’t believe a word of it. Everyone knows she has been trying to get out of her Grey’s contract for years. She wants to spend time at home to be a mom so she has to quit Grey’s, yet she has time for SIX upcoming movies? Please.

  • Sharon

What a bunch of inexplicably bitter comments. Grey’s has been sliding downhill, Izzie hasn’t had a good line in years, who cares how she leaves. She’s an outstanding actress and deserves roles that allow her to develop her talents while she’s still young and gorgeous. Grey’s was not offering that. If the people here can’t understand that, or try for one moment to see things from her perspective, she is far better off without having them as fans.
Let a person have their freedom without attacking them, envying them, or spewing your resentment on them.

  • Drashee

Does anyone know where I can find the complete interview? I’m from Germany and I’d love to read the whole thing but can’t buy the magazine here. :(

I’m just glad it’ll be over. I’m tired of hearing about it. I’m tired of the attention it’s been getting, and I’m tired of Greys’ in general. I used to love the show, but it’s gradually gotten bad. I watch it every week in hopes that it will get better, and maybe it will, but the cast of ccharacters they have now won’t make it better that’s for sure.

I do respect Katherine Heigl and her husband for adopting a special needs child when all of Hollywood want “perfect” children from othe countries and spend time splashing their faces everywhere. I think they’ll be great parents, and I do believe she’s shown how grateful she is and has shown a lot of grace and dignity by her actions. Do you ever see her drunk or being a diva anywhere else? No. She made big mistakes but I think she’s done more than enough to atone for them.

Wow, I am still in shock that she left Grey’s. I dont dislike her but I think shes been ungrateful to the show that made her famous. I wouldnt be surprised if she begged the show to take her back when she gets replaced by a hotter actress. Regardless, the show won’t be the same wihout her just like it isnt the same without George or Burke. I am a Grey’s fan so Ill keep watching … So Im waiting to see what the show has in store.

  • Tyler

Whatever – everyone knows that the show fell off after the Meredith death fake-out.

Can we talk for a moment about how dope it is that a famous actor decides NOT to enter a race for award recognition? It may happen all the time, but the fact is – she was right. And the kind of integrity that she displayed by not entering is admirable.

I’m completely confused by all the hoopla around her comments and her persona. She’s a woman with opinions, that she has to do this oh-so-obviously-set-up-by-a-publicist dance of contrition is insulting.

She needs to spend more time being a great dramatic actress instead of trying to become America’s next (banal) sweetheart.

  • Lois

You keep it up now, undresatnd? Really good to know.
