'Closer' scoop: Mary McDonnell returning for big arc

the-closer-mcdonnell-sedgwickImage Credit: Karen Neal/TNTBad news for Brenda is good news for fans of The Closer: Mary McDonnell is returning for the show’s upcoming sixth season.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that the ex-Battlestar Galactica prez will reprise her role as Captain Sharon Raydor, the by-the-book head of the Force Investigation Division whose occasional clashes with Brenda were a highlight of season 5, in a minimum of five episodes.

Per a Closer insider, Raydor will “create situations that come between Brenda and Pope.”

The Closer‘s sixth season is slated to premiere in July.

I LOVE THE CLOSER! I am waiting for new season, thanks!

    • Minnie

Me too. Excellent news that Mary Mc is returning. She rocked and drove Brenda (and me) nuts! Can’t wait.

  • Kay

Now to get Mary McDonnell to stop getting work done on her face…

    • Terri

      Those lips! *shudder*

    • Lyn

Too late; she’s no longer recognizable as her old (!) self. Still, I like her on the show.

    • Carpe

As someone who’s been blown away by several of her performances (e.g., Donnie Darko) so sorry to hear she’s succumbed to the needles, knife or whatever. Bad Girl!!! But she’s working….

      • lil

If you knew her, you would know that she’s against it…Read all her interviews…

      • firstlady

Meeting Mary 4 times in a year, she has had no work done…very obvious..its just good lighting on the show

    • Me

if you would see her in person, you didn´t think that.

      • lil

yes and it’s something that her fans loves, she stays herself, simple, humble and natural.

  • JEFF FROM JERSEY; YES NEW JERSEY

Another show just got better. It*s going to be interesting.

  • Lisa

Is Raydor going to start dating Pope?

    • Bexy

      Yes. This. PLEASE.

  • Lyn

I’d like to see her and Brenda become friends. Brenda needs one!

    • Caroline

good call! and the show needs more women. this is good news.

      • ks

I love to see two strong female rolls. Most shows do not have more than one. No one seems to mind two men.

    • pete

I thought they found a mutual respect for
each other last season. But I’m sure
there will be some tense situations

  • ks

    one word YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • ombsg

i’ve never seen this show but i might watch just for mary mcdonnell. she is incredible and i want her on t.v. again!

    • Antonio

      Second that.

  • Eva

Excited about her return! Raydor needs to know her place though, cause nobody messes with Brenda. =)

    • charlotte

      I agree completely!

  • laura

I LOVE!!!! the Closer. It’s the best show on. Brenda is great. I love her clashes with Captn. Raydor. I am glad she will be back.

    • pete

Maybe Raydor is the one who could use a “girlfriend”!

  • Rose

This is bad news. I absolutely cannot stand the character she plays, and her frozen face is annoying. If she’s going to be a recurring character, I guess I’ll quit watching. I dislike her that much.

    • XK

I agree 100%. We seem to be the only ones who feel this way though.

      • Vickif

I don’t like her either. She ruined the show for me.

  • Lori

Eh, I’m not that enamored with the character, but I’ll trust the writers of this great show.

  • Scott

Love Mary McDonnell, but hate this character. In fact, I am growing weary of the increasingly “go to” plot device on procedurals of bureaucratic threats from within to central characters as sources of dramatic conflict. The first 30 times it was used … okay. But now it’s a uncreative crutch that substitutes for meaningful character development.

  • Vann

I canno’t wait for Mary McDonnell to be on tv again!!!!

    AND HER AND WILL *dies*

  • TK

I would love to have Mary’s character go after Brenda’s husband………interesting….:)

  • Teresa

We know this since September 2009 and you confirms her return now from a source?
