Armchair Casting Director: 'True Blood'

Merlotte’s is getting some new blood. True Blood is casting the role of…

HOLLY: A thirtysomething (presumably single) mother of two, Holly applies for a job at Merlotte’s and creeps Arlene out with her oddly prescient observations. Very strong recurring in season 3 with a possible series regular upgrade in season 4.

    Laura Prepon

    • Dean

Totally agree. Laura Prepon would be amazing.

      • Bruna

        Completely disagree. She’s grating.

      • Brad

Evangeline Lilly or Diane Kruger or Rose McGowan

      • Brad

If you think about it it is True Blood meaning they have to be kind of sexy because the clothes are probably coming off. So they have to come off as mysterious yet hot.

      • Nathan

Laura Prepon is a great pick. She would be very believable as a bar-worker/mother. Her voice especially comes across as both motherly and bartender-y.

      • debi

Laura Prepon is good, but I think her 70′s show castmate Mila Kunis would be better. Anyone ever see American Phycho II – she can do creepy with a smile. That voice with a southern accent…

      • amj

Debi–I loved her in American Psycho II. I agree, I would love to see either Laura Prepon or Mila Kunis on tv again.

    • teris

Sorry but totally disagree. Laura Prepon is not a very good actress (despite her okay guest appearance on “House” last week). I’m not sure who the right pick is but it is definitely NOT her. Diane Kruger is too exotic-looking for the role and Evangeline Lilly might be too high profile. It’s unlikely but I’d like to see someone along the lines of Natalie Portman (or maybe just her) but that’s more of a fantasy than “True Blood” itself.

      • Trynity

Evangiline Lilly is too high profile, but Natalie pittman is okay. Sense. That statement makes none.

      • Trynity

        *Portman that is.

        Darn iPhone and it’s auto-correct.

      • Carla

Bit me! Laura Prepon is a very good actess, and I think she would make a perfect Holly!!

    • Amanda

      Eliza Dushku!!!! Nuff said!

      • XSEDrake

True Blood has a history of hiring people who can actually act.

      • Felipe

YES! Eliza! First and only pick!

      • Ibu

“True Blood has a history of hiring people who can actually act.”

Thanks for my first big laugh of the day!

And if we’re going with Buffy actresses, I’m going to suggest Amber Benson, who played Willow’s girlfriend Tara. I have a feeling the producers would probably want to shy away from most Whedon alums though, to avoid the comparison.

      • Shiny

Amen, Amber B. would be great and so would Amy Acker.

    • trashtvlover

      Kat Dennings….

      • trashtvlover

        here’s my list:
        Kat Dennings
        Julie M Benz
        Nazanin Boniadi

    • Shiny

What’s with all the Laura Prepon shout outs? That dead eyed stare of hers is annoying. She looks like a mini Cuddy.

  • Jon

Shannen Doherty would creep me out.

    • Brent

Shannen Doherty is a wonderful person, a talented actress, and a humanitarian. I’m enjoying seeing her on tv again on Dancing With the Stars. You are BEAUTIFUL Shannen!

      • Mary

        Thanks, Shannon Doherty’s father.

    • Heidi

I was totally going to say Shannen also!

      • as

        +1
        Shannon Doherty

      • Dustin

        Totally agree. SEXY

      • tracy

NO TO SHANNON – I DON’T WANT THE SERIES CANCELLED!!!

  • Jeff

Maybe Ana Ortiz? She’s got the mom part down and she’s going to need a job now that Betty is over and done with.

    • Alia

Ooooh… she’d be a good choice. And I say NO to Laura Prepon. I liked her on That 70s Show, but she was SO annoying on HIMYM that I haven’t been able to watch her since.

    • Zach

I think she got a job, actually.

  • Barbara E

Laura Prepon is a good one. Soleil Moon Frye? Just am glad Alan is including Holly – keeps the books consistency a bit.

    • Taylor

I like Soleil Moon Frye… that could work

    • amj

      Soleil..excellent suggestion!

    • tracy

SOLEIL WOULD B GOOD – SHE IS GREAT & NOT COMMONLY KNOWN – HOLLY ENDS UP QUITE A ROLE IN LATER BOOKS – BUT I ALSO LIKE ELIZA!!

  • something

    Lindsey Lohan

    • Dan

      hahaha!

  • Amelia

Oh cool, I hope this Holly is the I know and not a twisted version of her. Glad to finally get her kind introduced into the series.

    • GoodWitchPA

Agreed – we need some good PR :)

  • Courtney

Gina Torres, Paula Malcomson, or Katie Finneran

  • bunker

    Ana Ortiz

  • issit

yes i’d love to see Gina Torres in this role!

  • Buddy

Amy Acker. She’s a master at balancing charm with creepiness.

    • Kpryde

I second Amy Acker! shw would be great!

    • @TweedleV

amy aker would rock. I loved her in Dollhouse and Angel. just awesme

    • Felipe

Isn’t Amy Acker still working on Happytown or is that not happening anymore?

  • Samantha

Just because she creeps Arlene out doesn’t mean she is actually creepy…

  • Sam

Evangeline Lilly would rock this part. Or maybe Sarah Paulson?

  • Dan

Personally I would like to see a blonde but mysterious actor play Holly. Though that does differ from the book. I’m sure whoever they cast will be great

  • bobby

    How about Michelle Rodriquez?

  • Summer

Shannen Dorherty and Ana Ortiz are great suggestions! If anybody here has read the Sookie Stackhouse novels, we know that Holly will play a decent role come season four.
