'24' exclusive: Eriq La Salle lands UN-credible arc

Tags:

eriq-la-salleImage Credit: Tony Lowe/PR Photos24 is bringing in a TV veteran to help save Jack’s latest (and now it looks like last) bad day: Eriq La Salle has signed on to appear in this season’s final two episodes, sources confirm to me exclusively.

The former ER doc will play the charming and regal UN Secretary General.

Fox has yet to announce whether 24 will end its eight-season run this May, but that didn’t stop producers from attaching the following advisory to the casting call for the secretary general role: “These are the final episodes, so if some of your name people would like to do something on the show, this is the time for them to do it.”

It looks like La Salle’s reps heeded that call.

Of course, even if Fox does decide to end 24, there’s still a chance (albeit a slim one) that NBC could swoop in and save the day. (Additional reporting by Lynette Rice)

Maybe Mr. Bauer and Mr. Carmichael could work together at NBC.

    • Billiam

You know what, Keifer Sutherland would be a great guest star on Chuck.

Also, it annoys me how poorly written the spam on these message boards are.

      • Elizabeth

And people who can’t spell KIEFER…

  • Jon

Would LaSalle be considered one of the “name people”? I don’t think so.

  • Jesus Christ

    lol. “Name” people.

    • a name is a name

“Eriq La Salle” is a name, just like “Bob” or “Jim” or “Jesus.” I don’t understand your lol…

      • Jesus Christ

By “name” people, they meant get somebody famous who everyone would recognize. Most people know La Salle as “that one black dude from ER.”

  • terry

I’m still bummed that LaSalle wasn’t in more John Sandford adaptations like MInd Prey.

  • Travis

    More like “lame” people.

  • Don J

Mary Lynn Rajskub tweeted that they are shooting episode 23 and 24 right now.

    I wouldn’t call Eriq LaSalle a really big name. He’s a decent B-list actor.

  • F Fox

Not that this will come as a surprise, but I just found out from a friend of mine who works on the show that it has been officially cancelled.

    • John

      Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

    • Brett

Well, this should come as a surprise, then, that my friend at the network says it hasn’t been cancelled.

      • led

        Uhhhh…. its been cancelled!

    • Network Friend

      Well…
MY friend at the network says 24 is going to be replaced with 365, a show that features the real-time events of CTU, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year! (They’ll take a day off during leap years.)
In keeping with 24 tradition, the plots and action will be seemingly scripted as they go along, and story ideas will be reused over and over and over…

      • K

        Wow, you are hilarious. Not.

      • Bill

Thanks for sharing your opinion, “K”iefer.
Sorry your show just got canceled. Not.

      • Jingo

You guys use all the hip current slang of those Wayne’s World kids from that Saturday Night Live program the youth enjoy!

  • ewj

Given that Sanford books take place in my neighborhood. Mosley books takes place where I grew up. I like EL. Good to get him in front of the camera again.

  • Dr. Benton

You guys downplaying Eriq La Salle have no idea.

    Watch ER people.

He was Peter Benton, PETER BENTON. One of the greatest characters in TV HISTORY.

Lifetime induction into the awesome club.

    • Donnie

      Benton sucked.

    • Alice

Eriq was good, not great as Dr. Benton. Has anyone cared since…?

  • Brett

Yes, he was “Peter Benton”, and displayed the emotional range of a box of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. His character was sullen, arrogant, and always uninteresting.

    Save 24- Cancel Human Target!!!

    • K

      Exactly!

    • Rachel H.

Love the ‘Save 24 — Cancel Human Target’ comment. That show (which I’ve actually watched a few times) is based on a freakin’ comic book. Not exactly high drama …
I look forward to Eriq La Salle’s appearance; I just really do hope that it isn’t the end of 24!
(BTW, I still miss Bill Buchanan — James Morrison is a talented dude!)

      • Jesus Christ

As of right now, Human Target is a way better show than 24.

      • Billiam

The comic book and show pretty much have nothing in common. But it bothers me that “based on a comic book” (which is simply a media, and includes diverse titles “History of Violence” and “Ghost World”) means a show can’t possibly be any good.

OMG! How much plastic surgery has this guy had?

    • Kim

He looks like Tyler Perry! Maybe they share the same plastic surgeon.

    • stupid girls

Girls don’t hate because you don’t have good genes like LaSalle.

      • £€€

@stupid girls….did you mean to type “good jeans”??

    • Evan

Please. We all know black don’t crack.

  • @Ausiello

    Hey Ausiello:
Why do you always have to mention that info has been “confirmed to (you) exclusively” (!)
It makes you seem insecure and needy.

    • Jill

Well, yeah, that’s Aussiello to a T. Good scoops occasionally, but otherwise, he’s an insecure, needy, douchy tool.

  • Lyn

Eh, he’s no “Curtis” or “Tony,” and his part sounds dullsville. Still, I’m not ready for the show to end — want better writing!

  • Tova

Network Friend – HaHa! Love 365
