Armchair Casting Director: 'Glee'

Shelley Morrison, expect a call from your agent. Glee is looking for a fiftysomething Filipina or Hispanic actress to play the recurring role of Amelda, Sue’s maid.

Got a casting tip that doesn’t involve Karen’s long-suffering Ro-Ro? Hit the comments!

The potential un-PC humor of the situation sounds good, but the whole cliched nature of it…not so much.

  • Kaddison

When you said hilarious casting alert, I expected more like…Sue’s girlfriend. Or Sue’s secret kid. But nanny is fine, too :D

  • Luke

YES!! If the eight years of dealing with “Ms Karen” were rough, can you imagine what the years of Sue will be like?!

Shelly Morrison is the only one for this role. Ryan Murphy — make it happen!

  • eliott256

If Shelley Morrison was cast, it would make the show even more immense! Gosh, the potential!

  • Eve

    Rita Moreno!!!

    • charlane

oops – overlooked the 50ish part. skip what i said.

  • charlane

i hear america ferrara is looking for a new job.

    • charlane

skip this – she’s too young.

  • Tiffany

I pondered and pondered this question, and the truth is only Shelley Morrison has the talent and attitude to go up against the great Jane Lynch. Any other actress would get eaten up in any scene they did together.

    • OH no

      MORON

  • Redsled

I’d love to see Amy Hill get a shot at that part. Most people may recognize her as the owner of the Hawaiian diner in the Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore movie “50 First Dates.”

    • Aprilcot26

While I agree that she would be fantastic, I don’t think she’s technically Filipina or Hispanic.

      • TT2

but she can play one on TV.

      • nuse

She was already on Glee as Quinn’s OB/GYN.

  • Aunttalulah

I think that Hurley’s mother would be great! She cracks me up!

    • Keir

I agree. She’s got great comic timing, she would be perfect.

  • Mike Posting

I hate this show and I’m sick of all the posts about it. Can’t wait for it to burn out and get canceled just like Ugly Betty!

    • Johnification

We eagerly await which show you arbitrarily choose to pick on once Glee and Betty are gone.

    • kyleintexas

Yes Mike Posting, please keep posting your hateful comments, so we will know which shows merit your seal of approval !

      • Mike Posting

It’s not arbitrary. I’ll just pick on the next self-enamored, headache-inducing show I can’t stand to read about (hopefully Neil Patrick Harris will be involved.. he’s *so* talented!). And since you asked, @kyleintexas, The Sarah Silverman Program and 30 Rock meet my seal of approval. Thanks for asking!

  • Fructacey

What about Renee Victor, better known as Lupita on Weeds? I bet she could go up against Sue.

  • Ceballos

I don’t think Roma Maffia (“Nip/Tuck”) is Hispanic herself, but she can certainly play Hispanic. Plus, she’s fierce.

    • CE

Agreed. Also agree with the comments that the stereotype isn’t really necessary or adding any value.

    • Ceballos

I also forgot to mention…Ryan Murphy connection. Just sayin’.

  • kimmie

Even though she’s in her 60′s Liz Torres would be a good choice.

    • hannah

YESS! I was totally thinking her! plus she played Wilhelmina’s maid on Ugly Betty so she has experience!!!

    • Lelolai

I love her. She is older than they want but she is so great. She was on lots of shows including Gilmore Girls and the John Laroquette Show.

    • Courtney

Yes! I’ve missed her on my TV!

      • April

Yes. I was thinking about her as well. I loved Nip/Tuck. I hope it helps that Ryan Murphy created both shows…

  • Chaz

Lupe Ontiveros from Selena and Real Women Have Curves…She’s the only actress I could think of who could hold her own with Sue!!

    • Celimene

She’s the first one who popped into my head. Definitely Lupe Ontiveros.

      • Nora

Except for her age – she is close to 75.

      • Tonks027

        Um, Nora, she’s 67.

    • Brandon

Lupe Ontiveros immediately popped into my mind as well, I could not think of anyone better suited for the part.
