It’s fair to say Anders’ arrival in Mystic Falls will be slightly more complicated. READ FULL STORY »

'Vampire Diaries' exclusive first look: Damon gets it on with Melinda Clarke!

vampire-diaries-clarkeImage Credit: Bob Mahoney/The CWThe Vampire Diaries‘ brooding bloodsucker Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is in for one hell of a tasty treat when The O.C.‘s Melinda Clarke blows into Mystic Falls as Matt’s hard-partying, absentee mother, Kelly, on March 25. “The two of them hit it off instantly and form a bond that results in some hard-core flirtin’ and sexin’,” coos exec producer Julie Plec, who notes that “Damon isn’t just about the high school girls. He’s a worldly guy, so watching him sex it up with a real woman was very exciting.”

Scoop: 'Vampire Diaries' to end season 'with a bang'

Entertainment Weekly intern Vlada Gelman is covering the Paley Fest for The Ausiello Files. Here’s her report from last night’s Vampire Diaries panel.

Spoiler Alert: Fans were treated to the next new episode, “A Few Good Men,” airing March 25. O.C. grad Melinda Clarke makes her debut as Matt’s mom and she doesn’t hide her disdain for Matt’s “rebound girl” Caroline. Elsewhere, Damon gets sucked into a bachelor auction with the Real Housewives of Mystic Falls. The showdown between Damon and Alaric reaches a crescendo at the auction as the truth about Damon’s involvement in Isabel’s death comes out. Meanwhile, Alaric and Jenna grow closer, but the whole “your dead wife is the mother of my adopted niece” thing throws a wrench into their budding romance. As Elena grows closer to the truth about her mother, look for flashbacks to shed light on Isabel and Alaric’s ring. Additionally, two mysterious new figures will be introduced and there will be multiple deaths and revivals. We also haven’t seen the last of Anna and her mother Pearl. READ FULL STORY »

ABC back on Cablevision

Categories: Television, TV Biz

UPDATE (3/7): On Sunday night, ABC programming was restored to 3 million Cablevision customers in the N.Y. tri-state area at 8:43 p.m. after the two sides resolved the dispute over retransmission fees detailed in the original post and updates below. The network had pulled its programming at midnight on Saturday.

ABC-Disney followed through with its threat tonight by pulling the New York-area WABC-TV from Cablevision after it failed to reach a re-transmission agreement with the cable giant.  Some 3 million Cablevision customers in Long Island, Westchester, Brooklyn, and parts of Connecticut and New Jersey were affected.

Rebecca Campbell, President and General Manager, WABC-TV, released this statement: “Cablevision has once again betrayed its subscribers by losing ABC7, the most popular station in the tri-state area. This follows two years of negotiations, during which we worked diligently, up to the final moments, to reach an agreement. Cablevision pocketed almost $8 billion last year, and now customers aren’t getting what they pay for…again. It’s time for Jim Dolan and the Dolan Family Dynasty to finally step up, be fair, and do what’s right for our viewers.”

Cablevision’s exec VP of communications Charles Schueler released a statement in response: “It is now painfully clear to millions of New York area households that Disney CEO Bob Iger will hold his own ABC viewers hostage in order to extract $40 million in new fees from Cablevision. We call on Bob Iger to immediately return ABC to Cablevision customers while we continue to work to reach a fair agreement.”

ABC began warning customers last week that they could miss the Oscars because of the stalemate. Affected subscribers can still access WABC-TV for free by going old-school with an antenna.

UPDATE: Campbell released another statement today: “Cablevision’s legendary greed and disregard for the needs of their customers continues. Now the only way for their subscribers to get ABC7 is to ditch Cablevision and switch to a provider that cares about them. Cablevision customers who want ABC7 should make that switch now.”

UPDATE: Cambell released another statement: “We have sent Cablevision a new proposal, and are awaiting their response.  If Cablevision is serious about doing right by their customers and returning ABC7 and its programming to them, then they need to act now.  The ball is in their court.”

UPDATE: Cablevision said it would agree to binding arbitration with ABC Disney in order to return ABC to Cablevision customers, as suggested earlier today by Senator John Kerry and other political leaders. In a statement, Cablevision’s executive vice president of communications, Charles Schueler, said, “We remain deeply disappointed that ABC Disney has put their own financial interests above their viewers and pulled the plug on ABC…. Thus, Cablevision will agree to binding arbitration and calls upon Disney CEO Bob Iger to immediately return ABC to New York area viewers, and join us in binding arbitration to resolve this matter fairly. We have communicated our position to the highest levels of the FCC and urged the agency to appropriately involve itself in this process.”

Exclusive: 'Fringe' picked up for a third season

Sci-fi fans who may be concerned about the state of the genre on network TV (we’re looking at you, V and FlashForward) have at least one reason to rejoice: EW has learned exclusively that Fox has picked up Fringe for a third season. Though the show isn’t exactly blowing the roof off of Nielsen — it’s been averaging just 7.6 million viewers and is ranked No. 50 in the all-important adults 18-49 demographic this season — it managed to survive in a tough new time period on Thursdays. The show returns with new episodes — and the promise of more visits from Leonard Nimoy and to the parallel universe — on April 1.

ABC vs Cablevision: No deal, just more mudslinging

Categories: Television, TV Biz

The war of words between ABC and Cablevision continued on Friday, with the cable giant reportedly saying that only Disney President and CEO Bob Iger can be the one to save WABC-TV customers from missing tomorrow’s Oscar telecast.  Some 3 million New York-area Cablevision customers in Long Island, Westchester, Brooklyn, and parts of Connecticut and New Jersey could lose access to ABC programming if the cable company doesn’t reach a re-transmission agreement with the network, which wants $40 million a year to carry WABC-TV — or $1 per subscriber. ABC is the one threatening to pull the signal unless a new deal is reached.

“Cablevision already pays Disney more than $200 million a year and now they are demanding $40 million more,” according to a published statement by Charles Schueler, Cablevision’s executive vice president of communications.  “We call on Bob Iger to stop holding his own viewers hostage, end his threats to pull the plug on ABC at midnight and instead work with us to reach a fair agreement.  The switch is in Bob Iger’s hands.”

Rebecca Campbell, the President and General Manager of WABC-TV, responded with this statement: “It’s an insult to Cablevision customers that with literally hours to go before losing access to ABC7, Cablevision is personally attacking Disney executives. Does Cablevision have such little regard for its subscribers’ intelligence to think that they don’t know a negotiation takes two parties? The inconvenient truth is that ABC7 has been prepared to reach a fair agreement for two years and Cablevision has refused to do its part. If Cablevision CEO James Dolan and the Dolan Family Dynasty have any regard at all for the millions of customers who pay hard earned dollars for their service, they will order their troops to stop slinging mud and start cutting a deal.”

If ABC follows through with its threat to pull the signal, affected subscribers can still access WABC-TV for free by going old-school with an antenna.
