'Fringe' exclusive: 'Dirty Sexy' star cast as [spoiler alert]

Tags: , , Scoop

fringe-castingImage Credit: Frank Micelotta/Getty Images; Inset: Justin Stephens/FoxThis just in from Fringe‘s Overthereland: Dirty Sexy Money‘s Seth Gabel is joining the cast as the lead Fringe investigator in the alternate universe, sources confirm to me exclusively.

Gabel’s detective will debut in the show’s two-part finale (airing May 13 and May 20) and could return on a recurring basis next season.

Back in January, consulting producer Akiva Goldsman revealed that much of the finale would be set “over there.”

“We’re trying to do the last two episodes as a singular event, a little bit more movie-like,” he added. “It’s really one big story. We’re approaching it like a mini-feature. It’ll have a singular narrative drive.”

    whaaaat??? thats way awesome.

    • Nicotine

So, he’s like the anti-Olivia? Cool!

      • Brian

Haha, altenate-Oliva, not anti-Olivia. Unless he’s determined to annihilate her, which I doubt.

  • Anjali

Oooooh!! Sounds very interesting!!!!!!!! Looks like there will be a Fringe Division 2.0

  • highoncelluloid

So if he’s lead investigator in the Fringe division over there, who is he over here? And where is Olivia over there?

    • Lori

      My thought exactly…

    • JaySin420

Maybe she’s teaming up with the other Walter to get Peter back?

      • Trill

I suspect Olivia is a singleton.

      • ObiHave

        Remember it’s Walternate.

  • Michelle

I LOVE Seth! That is fantastic news!

  • Tabitha

When you said “the show’s two-part finale” my heart dropped. I had to reread three times out of confusion because Seth “could return on a recurring basis next season”. I thought Fringe was coming back and took deep breaths while double-checking the list you’ve compiled. For the sake of my health, please include the word “season” when addressing finales if the show hasn’t already been cut!

    • Irish

Fringe has already been renewed. But I so feel your pain!

  • Dryden

He’s hot! Liked him since nip/tuck.

  • Rebeeca

Well this actor better not replace Joshua jackson and Peter. i will not put up with this actor ruining the show, pushing Peter into the background, being nothing but Walter’s babysitter.

    • michele

He’s not being pushed in the background just because he wasn’t in last episode. My concern is the Peter/Olivia relationship. I reaaallllyyy hope they don’t start a romance. They do not fit together. What happened to Olivia’s sister? Why did she just disappear pretty much?

      • NT

Olivia’s sister disappeared because she’s been involved in movies the last quite awhile. I don’t think she’s coming back to the show. One of the shows creators was asked about this several months ago and they said she is doing movies now.

    • Niko

On the contrary, after last week’s ep it seems Peter will be the focus of everything, so there is nothing to worry about…

  • BradP

He’s just about as pretty as she is.

  • LaFluer

peter’s real brother or replacement in the other world

  • michele

This is one of the best shows on TV. INCREDIBLE acting and writing, and John Noble deserves some awards love! I hope this show survives past season 3!

  • Elliot

Olivia isn’t a singleton, the alts (Alt-Charlie & Alt-Broyles) both interacted with her when Olivia saw through her eyes before she crossed physically.

  • Lee

Hesitate about this. He was really not good in Dirty.

    • Semaphore

He’s just a bland pretty boy who can’t act very well. They could do better. It would be nicer if they cast an actress instead.

      • PT

naw…it adds more what-ifs if the alternate olivia is a guy.

  • Ryan

He did his part well in DSM, which was a lazy sleaze. I would have MUCH MUCH MUCH preferred Glenn Fitzgerald who played Brian. I developed a bro-mance crush on him after a while. He started delivering lines like it was bloody Shakespeare. Dramatic or hilarious I started hanging on his every word. lol

    • DB

hahaha, i agree, just finished watching DSM’s final episodes on DVD over the weekend. beside how unresolved the plot left, it made me wanting to see more of Glenn Fitzgerald on screen someday (he and Natalie Zea are truly the breakout stars from that show.)
Seth Gabel looks a bit young for a lead investigator, but anyway, Fringe can do no wrong.

      • Works for Me

Not sure how many degrees he is from Kevin Bacon, but he is married to Ron Howard’s daughter, Bryce Dallas Howard. Akiva Goldsman wrote A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man, The DaVinci Code, and Angels and Demons, all directed by Ron Howard. A little nepotism never hurt anybody in Hollywood. It gets a foot in the door at least, not that it matters. Seth Gabel is a good actor, and I loved him in DSM. I also hope Glenn Fitzgerald gets a great part very soon. He’s missed on TV. His delivery of the simple line, “I hate you”, always made me laugh.

  • Whatever

Don’t particularly like or dislike this actor (only remember him in DSM even though I’m pretty sure I saw him somewhere else…) but his storyline seems very interesting. Can’t wait !! And so f-ing glad Fringe is returning next season. Best sci-fi/supernatural/mystery/pattern show on TV.
