Image Credit: Armando Gallo/RetnaIf April 9 was Charlie Sheen’s last day on Two and A Half Men, there was no sign of it on the Burbank soundstage where the sitcom shot its seventh season finale. One attendee who spoke to EW.com described the taping as “business as usual.” The cast got a standing ovation before and after the taping and no one gave any sort of goodbye speech – at least not in front of the studio audience. A season-ender wrap party, which is customary, was scheduled for the night of April 10.
Earlier Friday, People.com posted a statement from Sheen that hinted that the taping – which marks the end of his current contract – could be his last. “If tonight’s show is the end for me as Charlie Harper, so be it. Another journey has begun. I take from the experience 161 shows filled with a kaleidoscope of amazing experiences, memories, friendships and gratitude. I remain humbly inspired.”
Sheen went on to explain that “approaching the start of the current season and as far back as June ‘09, I submitted my terms for season eight to Warner Bros. and CBS respectfully.” And yet Sheen did not indicate any plans to outright quit the show that’s made him the highest paid actor in primetime - which have led many in Hollywood to assume that he is holding out for an even bigger payday. Warner Bros. TV had reportedly offered him nearly $1 million per episode, up from the $850,000 he receives today – though Sheen said the claims were “without merit.”
“A negotiation ploy is something you do to get the best possible deal,” Sheen’s publicist told People.com. “Charlie told them what he wanted a year ago.”
Sheen is still facing jail time for charges of felony menacing, criminal mischief, and third-degree assault from the dispute with his wife, Brooke Mueller; a trial date has been set for July 21. The 44-year-old can afford to take a step out of the spotlight, especially since he has a stake in Men’s syndication profits (not to mention the $18 million or so he raked in for this season). And it certainly would not be unprecedented for a sitcom to go on without one of its stars; Laverne & Shirley did it without Cindy Williams in 1982, albeit to painful results.
Any significant change would surely hurt ad sales for Men, which reportedly commands north of $220,000 for a 30-second spot. It could also prompt CBS to bump the show from its 9 p.m. perch on Mondays in favor of The Big Bang Theory. It seems far more likely that Warner Bros. may persuade its volatile star to work an abbreviated schedule in order to assure fans and Madison Avenue that while Sheen may be down, he’s definitely not out.

I don’t understand, why does Charlie Sheen think he deserves a raise for his piss poor fathering and husbanding “skills” that include polishing his violence against women performances.
His pay should be cut with the difference going to women’s shelters. How embarrassing he would even think to hold out for more money, for himself.

Personal and professional lives are distinct entities. Just as one will say stars deserve protection from the wrath of the paparazi, their personal lives should be kept out of contract negotiations. Also, let us not forget, while I am against spousal abuse, his wife was not 100% innocent, either, and herself checked into rehab for her many problems. Sheen undoubtedly is an asset for the show. In fact, the entire theme of the show would need to be reworked and would not last. He will likely get a raise, but not as much as he desires….something in between with possibly higher syndication profits.
His offscreen antics have nothing to do with his TV series. His character already is a womanizing alcoholic. He can ask for more and they can pay it or not. BUT if he goes, they can write him out, maybe his characters old jingles are suddenly popular in Japan and he leaves to do concerts there. His brother is now in charge of the house and makes extra money by renting out Charlie’s room. After auditions for the roommate that make American Idol auditions look tame in comparison, the brother picks a hot blonde for a roommate, and he and his son both look forward to a new season with her. My choice for roommate… Heather Locklear! (I hear melrose place is likely to be canceled!)
Please. There’s no way Warner Brothers is going to let its cash cow go. This is their top rated show and they’ll offer Sheen whatever he wants to continue. Expect news in the upcoming weeks that they reached a deal with Sheen and he’ll be returning for another season. This is easy money for Sheen and he hasn’t exactly been lighting up the silver screen in many years. Only an idiot would walk away from this.
so in the coming weeks we’ll see if your statement will imply that Charlie Sheen is a true idiot as he walks away from the series.
Yeah, otherwise I think we have a new name for this situation. It’s called pulling a Dave Chappelle!
HaHa…. Charlie came into work for the show all beaned out and drunk half the time….i think theyre just sick of him coming in all messed up on pills and liquor anymore…i personally find it enjoyable….-ChUnKs617
Tim Allen and Patricia Richardson each walked away from more than this when they decided not to do another season of “Home Improvement.”
Yes, and so did Jerry Seinfeld and many others – but that was money offered to them when they didn’t want to do the show anymore. Sheen has already submited his demands for the next season, so he clearly wants to continue.
JPX, as a new fan, I hope you are correct. Sheen makes this show.

Truly, who the hell cares?
I heard he wants to make Hot Shot; Part Tres. That’s the reason.
I thought I read that it was a Major League sequel???
He’s definitely in the “Wall Street” sequel with Michael Douglas.
Hot Shots, sorry
Actually it’s a sequel to Terminal Velocity.
I’ve been waiting for ‘The Wraith Part Deux’ for over 20 years. Maybe my wait is finally over!!! DO IT CHARLIE!!!
He’s leaving to reprise his role as the drug dealer in Ferris Buehler Part Two: The Geriatric Years
I can’t think of a more fitting end to this horrible show.
It’s blatantly ridiculous how much money these people make, especially on a show that follows the setup line-punchline formula for every episode. And after having done this show for so many seasons the actors are so entrenched in the characters it doesn’t take much effort to perform as those characters. The people who should be making the big money are the writers who have to continue to pump out this drek every week.
Um, Charlie Sheen is not even acting on this show. It’s HIM. I honestly haven’t seen him ACT since “The Boys Next Door”.
That’s the sign of a GOOD actor when it seems so effortless. And that goes for the whole cast.
Not effortless – lazy. He puts on a bowling shirt and reads the lines.
This is the only sitcom that truly makes me laugh out loud! Hope it comes back next season!
I love this show, it’s truly the best comedy on tv, and has been for years—Give Charlie what he wants, he deserves it, and so do the other cast members!!!LONG LIVE 2 1/2 MEN!!!!!!
I watch this show and it has it’s amusing moments, but come on, it’s been past it’s prime for several years now. I view out of habit and because it’s on the same night as HIMYM and TBBT.
Amen, bunker. Has there EVER been a worse show that has been this popular? Brady Bunch, Full House, Family Matters (virtually anything produced by Miller/Boyet, for that matter) were all atrocious but at least had some social merit.
I agree. don’t forget one of the worst EVER sitcoms – Perfect Strangers. BLECCCCH
“Social merit?” Seriously? What kind of yam head watches sit coms for social merit? I’m guessing the kind of doofus that watched a “very special episode” of Blossom and thought that it was solving one of societies ills. Sorry dipsh*t, but the little girls were still just tuning in to drool over Joey Lawrence and make fun of the “relevent” storylines. Social merit…-rolls eyes-
блять долбаные америкашки англичанины вы такие срахуэллы
CAN”T AGREE MORE!!
You go, girlfriend!
Preach to the choir!
Google translation: f**king f**king amerikashki Englishman, you are ?
charlie sheen is a drug addict and is an ass. but that being said some things are more important then money and he obviously has enough.
блин ненавижу англичанин особенно штаты Америки США мне не нравится Ангдия а особенно Америка ….какието вы страшные все фу!
Google translation: I hate the English and USA.
Well stay in Russia and we’ll all be happy.
I am an old “stick in the mud” but I really get a “kick” out of Charlie, his “brother and his brother’s kid” and all the other cast members. They really get raunchy and real but compared to the commercials plastered all over my t.v., Charlie is tolerable and FUNNY! Charlie plays a character that tends to reflect on his own life booboos. I hope we will see more of Charlie and the gang on next seasons T.V. That “boy” has really grown up. It should be entertaining to see him in more age-appropriate adventures. Bring it on!!!! It’s worth giving everybody a raise in pay to do that FUNNY-FUNNY show. Don’t lose anybody on that show, they are ALL just great!
I think you should watch some other comedies. 2.5 men is one of the worst sitcoms on TV right now. It may have been good when it started but it’s tired now. Put this thing to bed.
@Liz- if you think it is so bad, then why are you reading an article on it and commenting on the board?! Go comment on something you actually like then…
I am a senior who lives alone and watching 2 1/1 men entertains me. I know it is crass, crude and uses too many references to bodily functions, but it is fun and Sheen and Cryer are good in their parts
Ha ha – you said “parts”!
Good one KFed. LOL
I don’t want to pay for better than the basic cable. Flipping through 3 0r 4 “entertainment” channels, 2 commercial sales and 4 church channels makes Charlies show about as much “that kind of FUNNY I can stand.” I have to admit I had to turn it off a few times before I forfeited my good judgement and left it on. Next thing I knew, I was laughing at the absolute unexceptable behavior portrayed by Charlies character. See how sin gets a grip on your mind.
What are you saying?
