I wonder how much TBS paid Lopez to take a back seat to Conan? Sorry. I just have a hard time believing that Lopez would be so willing to move to midnight and we are supposed to believe it, when at the same time we are supposed to be all indignant when Conan was asked to do the same thing. So it’s good that Lopez is doing it, but bad when Conan was asked to do it? Sounds like a double standard to me.
Here’s the difference- The Tonight Show was not Conan’s brand to tinker with and that was his chief objection to moving the time slot. Its been 11:35 for decades and Conan really respects the comedic history of the show and its legacy. As for this situation w/ Lopez, how do you think he fares in ratings against the 11 pm network news programs, Chelsea Lately on E and the Daily Show/ Colbert Report? Probably not so hot. But with the lead-in of a HUGE name like Conan in front of him? How could that not be a good thing for him? There will be more new viewers to TBS now then ever before and they’ll all have a chance of sticking around to watch Lopez Tonight now. Win win for everyone!
I agree James! I like Lopez, but his show is just not funny enough to survive. Now with Conan, even I will stick around. TBS is a great station, always reliable for GOOD Comedy… they just have to get rid of the Tyler Perry sitcom night. (those depress me)
The only thing that really makes me nervous about this news is that he’s keeping the new show in L.A. I’ve always thought that the energy and ambiance of New York was a major contributor to how fresh and hip “Late Night” felt. However, now that Conan will have (supposedly) free reign to again explore some of the edgier material he excelled at before taking on “The Tonight Show”, maybe that will revitalize the show itself, as well.
Hell Yeah! I love Conan and it’s about time. He rocks and TBS is a better network for him to work anyways. That’s where all the funny people end up. NOT NBC that’s 4sho!
This is always the type of show that Conan was going to end up doing. He was a bad fit for the Tonight Show and even Fox was afraid to take a chance on him. He will do OK, but don’t expect any fireworks after the first week.
WooHoo for CoCo but November??? Too long!!!! Thank you TBS!
As a long time fan with somewhat old eyeballs, I was beyond thrilled to hear that my comic hero, CoCo and his gang of witty ones are coming back to me in November!!! Thank you so much TBS—-you have my undying gratitude and I vow to buy whatever products show the marketing sense to sponsor his new show!! I’m so glad the show is staying in LA. It was one of my greatest regrets that I never got to see one of his shows in person and now I can!! Conan, my heart still aches remembering your parting words on your last show. Now I only feel only joy for you and all your staff and all of TEAM COCO!! Can’t wait for Nov!!
P.S. Please, Conan, my joy will not complete unless Andy is back too by your side!!!
I’m going to get cable finally just to see Coco in November. I grew up watching Coco, and I feel very loyal to him – I won’t even watch Jay if he has a guest on that I really wanna see. No one does off the cuff quips like Conan! He’s very talented and good guy all around.
SOOOOOO happy Conan will be back on TV and late night. That’s all I care about right now. TBS not a prime network? That’s not the point. The point is Conan!
I watch the Daily show every day, however, I watch it on the internet on my own schedule. I think many people my age (26) are consuming entertainment this way, which is why Conan’s move to a time slot viewed by an older audience didn’t produce numbers that NBC wanted. If TBS fails to provide Conan online, there might be a problem, but if this is the case I’ll simply watch Conan at 11 on TV and the Daily Show and Colbert on the internet on my own time.
