geez why are you people so angry at the death? upset I can understand, but 24 has been killing off likeable and loved characters for years. David Palmer, Bill Buchanan, even Ryan Chapelle (whose death is still the most saddening and emotional one for me). If you’d seen all the previous seasons by now, you wouldn’t be so attached to anyone.

I guess I kind of half expected Renee is going to die; there is no such thing as happiness in 24. I am just glad the writers are not killing off Jack’s grand-daughter, to drive him off the edge.

On another note, I really like Chloe this season; her annoyance to all people makes the scenes very funny. Can’t wait to see her as Jack’s boss, and have Jack disobey her orders and such… :-)

Personally, I think this is all about the movie. I mean this is yet another repeated storyline of Jack and his King Midas touch of death- and it feels cheesy. Granted I hate this writing decision less than this season’s mole mess but still, I don’t worship the idea of Jack and Renee together but even I really felt irked by this plot decision. I guess what most bothers me about this decision is that it seems they’re sacrificing the show’s storyline potential for the film. And I’m not sure on this one, but I almost feel like if they felt they just had to kill her off they could have done so later. I mean Gordon goes on about how this relationship was the first to really be explored in depth on screen when it really wasn’t anywhere close. Certainly not the romantic aspect. I mean Renee’s line about how they said a lot of things covers it pretty well. They said things, they slept together. How is that a real exploration? Honestly, I enjoy the show to a degree, but combining this interview with Gordon with the one about the mole scandal kind of leads me to believe either he spends much less time analyzing and evaluating consequences of plot decisions or he’s simply delusional. I mean, he didn’t even understand why people were upset about this season’s mole subplot (which was largely due to her United-States-of-Tara-esque personality flips which resembled a MPD sufferer more than the behavior of a sociopath and her time management or lack thereof as oppose to Gordon’s conclusion, that it was simply the reappearance of yet another mole causing the eyerolls of the blogosphere)… And now he’s going on about how developed this relationship was. Not to mention the snarky fan-bashing… Honestly, I think he’s either less talented than the world has given him credit for or he’s absolutely bats**t bonkers.

I can’t bother reading the hundreds of stupid comments left about this subject, but let me remind you, the best ever ep’s of ’24′ were the first 3 or 4 from season #2, after the death of Jack’s wife. He went “caveman” violent on the enemy, including a beheading to prove his cover. ’24′ isn’t about how great the heart is as much it is about how dark the soul can get. BRAVO!

I cannot understand how renee was the greatest love of jack.
In start of this season jack says to chloe that renee had not been responding to his calls.
They had last seen each other at end of season 7 and so technically they have been together for what…a day and a half?
and she is his greatest love??
    wtf??

It was ridiculous. There was no need for it. It was shock for shock’s sake.

It also may end up portraying Jack Bauer as only out for revenge now, which is not the way I wanted the show to go out.

Thanks a lot, writers, for destroying a brilliant character and amazing show.

    Renee was sooo mismanaged!!!

The TV franchised should have been gone on to feature Renee. Meanwhile Jack starts the MOVIE franchise.

Straight male — thought the decision sucked.

it was sad when his wife died, but man when renee died it hit me like a ton of bricks- I knew it was gonna happen (gut feeling) but she was the ONLY love interest who truly understood what he did and what he was about..she was a female version of him. even during their phone convos you could feel how much they cared for each other..the looks they gave each other –were just WOW. So..yeah renee was the ONE for him. I will miss her, and Jack may never come back from this, his revenge is fierce and he will not STOP til the person who pulled the trigger is 6ft under and then some. I also loved the actress, she and Kiefer had undeniable natural chemistry w/each other…I know the writers did it to escalate the storyline and Jack’s vengeance but it still po’d me off. Annie Wersching was perfect as Renee and such a natural beauty — she had the best chem w/Kiefer thats for sure…I will miss her even just the simple things like their tele conovs they had w/each other..she and he always ended up hanging up w/a smile on their face..

They had to kill Renee. With so many hours left and Jacks day had ended something had to make him snap in anger and reenter the finale hours. Plus it starts the whirl wind with Jack and Chloe. His strong feelings to set things right for the death of Renee, nothing will stop him, not Chloe, not Pres. Taylor, the end will be wild and fast. Just like the last hour of season one.
I applaud the writers and staff of 24. The best part of the show 24 is the shock and surprise of every minute. The thought of anything can happend is what keeps the true fans on the edge of our couch.
