I was thinking it would have been cool if Jack had been shot, was in “critical condition” for a few hours, and Renee went off the deep end in classic Bauer, justice seeking, style. Oh well…

    • Chris

      Totally!

    • Jesus Christ

Yeah, let’s have the star of the show incapacitated for the majority of the rest of the last season.

THAT sounds like a great idea.

    • Linda

That will never happen! This is Jack Bauer we are talking about, for God’s sake!

I guess I’m in the minority, but I’m soooooo glad they killed the Renee character. I didn’t like her last season and I liked her even less this season. Everytime she came onscreen I would cringe (same with the Dana Walsh character). It didn’t help that Annie couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag, either.

im sorry but i cried and not in a good way. renee was the reason i watched and i might watch the next episode and nothing more. i just cant believe they did it…. thats just heartless.

Interesting comments and reactions! I am in the camp that Jack-Renee was WAY more plausible than his other romances, because they understood each other’s pain like no other! On the recap board people were knocking their chemistry, but I thought their kiss was powerful. I also understand the fan anger, but I get Howard Gordon’s point that it sets in motion the end game.
I am STILL of the opinion that the braver, more creative decision would have been to let President HASSAN live. But Renee’s death at least is plausible from a storyline point of view, even if it does suck.

The fact that people are this angry about Renee’s death, leads me to believe that this was definitely the right decision. As much as I love Renee, that is. It’s sad to see her go, but it’ll allow the show to go out with a bang. And there is almost always this amount of anger when a beloved characters whether it’s David Palmer, Michelle Dessler and even Teri Bauer. Good job Howard Gordon.

I think it stunk. 24 is officially over for me. I am glad they did not get a 9th season, and I don’t care about the movie

  • BoredNow

People actually think this was a strong season of 24? IMHO, they killed off the one thing that was vaguely interesting this season. Will it pay off? Probably not — Dana Walsh is still alive, and untortured.

Remember the season’s tag line: “torture Dana Walsh, save the world”

Worst idea ever. I don’t understand this idiotic plot. What was the idea? To make Jack suffer even more? And it’s like we have to pay the prize for Jack having sex with Renee. If they are happy just for a few hours, they need to suffer later.

They certainly didn’t take notice of the amount of fans Renee has.

  • Chris

This move was so predictable and such a cliche, that I thought it wouldn’t happen. Right after a beautiful “breakthrough” moment, another loved one killed before his eyes. Completely predictable, ridiculous and redundant to past storylines. This character of Renee certainly could fit into the long-term 24 universe. Renee and Jack were terrific together — double action, double angst, and double sexy. As a female fan, I have so enjoyed having the two strong female characters of Renee and President Taylor. A huge, lazy mistake from 24. I’ve been a big fan since Day 1. I’ve stuck with them from Cougar & Kim through Tony’s ludicrous character arc. But I will not watch the end of this season, and I will not go to your movie. Way to alienate your female fans. Goodbye, Mr. Gordon.

whelp… another Fox show bites the dust.. I don’t feel inclined to watch the rest of the season now. Renee was an amazing character, foil and partner.. and even though I pretty much saw it coming.. still rang lame. like killing people is the only way to create pain and conflict…? ha! anyone in a relationship knows that sex doesn’t end the tension lol:)…

  • Tim

I’m not sure why people are so shocked. I thought this was obviously what was going to happen the moment he took her to bed with the pervert sniper watching through the window. The death of the IRK president the previous week was a bigger shocker to me. From a great line of fantastic characters like Tony, Michelle, Bill Buchanan, Edgar, David Palmer we are reduced to having only three people we give a damn about and have known for more than a few episodes: Jack, Chloe and President Taylor

And yes, I’m glad too they didn’t get a season 9 and I certainly won’t miss time with the movie either.

  • Kyle

Wow, I can’t believe there is even a debate over Jack’s “True Love” is. Have people forgotten Day one? His wife Teri was his true love. He has been (at least) somewhat broken since her death. Its not even a debate to me.

  • button_lip

Tim, we’re surprised because we didn’t think the show could be soooo redundant. Guess we were wrong.

I cannot not belive people are saying it was a bad move on the writers part.. come on.. that is the point of having a show like 24… that what makes 24 soo freakin good unlike most of the tv shows out there. I can’t wait for the movie!!! I honesly thought Renee was going to turn out to be the bigger mole w/ working for the russians. If people don’t like it.. dont watch it anymore and stop bitching!!!! You will be sorry when 24 is gone and theres nothing else like it on tv!!!!!!!:( Can’t wait for the movie!!
