EW.com has learned that David Hasselhoff will briefly reprise his role as Dr. William “Snapper” Foster, Jr. on The Young and the Restless. He’ll return to the show’s Los Angeles set in May for an arc that will start airing in mid-June. The Baywatch star got his start in TV by starring on the popular sudser from 1975 to 1982.
“In 1976, Bill Bell, creator of America’s No. 1 soap opera, took a chance on a young and very green actor,” Hasselhoff said in a statement given exclusively to EW.com. “Playing Snapper in 850 shows during the six years I appeared molded my craft, my attitude and my work ethic. Being asked to come back to appear in several episodes gives me a chance to say thanks, as I have an amazing amount of respect and heartfelt emotion for Bill, his family and my time on Young and the Restless. I just hope I can remember all those lines.”
It seems likely that Hasselhoff will address his return to Restless in his upcoming reality show for A&E, but CBS could not confirm.

What a guy! *g*
I hope he guest stars on one of the best shows on tv – LEGEND OF THE SEEKER!!!!!!!
Wow, what a great career move. The last time I saw him on TV he was drunkenly eating a hamburger off the floor.
Seriously GPF? Are you going on every board mentioning Legend of the Seeker?
His greatest role:
This is really strange as I wrote to them a few weeks ago and suggested that they do this. GREAT NEWS
Can’t wait for the episode where he throws up in a drunken stupor.
Wow that seriously is great news. I started watching the Y&R in 1980 with my grandmother. When Snapper left, the scene with him and his son. We all cried. Still addicted to the Y&R, mind you it was soooo much better when the fosters were there. Can’t wait
i am so happy to hear this. have watched y and r since the beginning, and i loved snapper. cant wait.
Happy about David Hasselhoff return, but y&R is slipping up very bad w/ this double-digits, lauren and sara; emily and patty, Victoria sleeping w/ Billy, I wonder if Y&R are tryong to to get the axe like ATWT, and Guiding Light.
Think he’ll be able to remember his lines?
Gee–I never watched any soap, whether THe Hoff was in it or not.
I certainly hope there is a rider in his contract for unlimited cheeseburgers to be delivered to him during the filming. Hoff–”You Have The Floor!”
*Herpes*
I smell desperation.
In its heyday when there were like 20 soaps on the air, about 15 million people a day were watching Y&R.
Now there are 5 soaps left with Y&R still the top-ratd serial at 4 million viewers a day.
A great way to celebrate the death of a genre. Bring back a celebrity whose career is over.
Geez, I’m depressed after reading this. It’s only a soap, relax.
AMC, ATWT, B&B, Days, GH, OLTL, Y&R are seven soaps, not five. Even if you remove ATWT because it’s going off the air later this year, that makes six soaps.
I watch YR everyday and frankly have no interest in watching him.
Excited…not just for The Hoff, but that Y&R will be bringing back the whole Foster clan. This should be good stuff.
Snapper AND Greg AND mama Liz? That is awesome! I might have to check it out. Haven’t watched Y & R forever!
While I am all for bringing back some old timers I will just hope they can keep this one sober for the duration.
It took me about 3 years of trying to break a 25 year addiction to Y&R.
But I guess I’m going to have to watch the return of the Fosters.
Who next though, Robert Cleary?
no,that would have to be on Ghost Whisperer!
I thought his name on Y&R was Clipper? Cuz, he clipped players on the football field. I never watched but my older sisters did.
Well who watches that soap anyhoo. I thought they already canceled it, but adding him to it only shows just how desperate they are in trying to get people to watch that lameazz soap.
Just kill off the whole cast and try and leave with a little dignity.
Maybe, just maybe, David will be able to use this opportunity to help re-build his self respect and help him with recovery from Alcohol. I pray that is the case and I will pray for his success. Alcohol is a drug and alcoholism is a disease. Cruelty about his illness is not called for. It takes a lot of courage to face your demons and weaknesses, especially when you are in the public eye. I applaud his strength and wish him all the best in the world.
