Breaking: NBC renews 'Parenthood'

parenthood-krausBest news ever: NBC has picked up Parenthood for a second season!

The sublime family drama, from Friday Night Lights boss Jason Katims, has been averaging a solid 3.2 rating among adults 18—49 since debuting last month.

“We are so happy to welcome back this multilayered and compelling series about an extended American family for another season,” NBC prez Angela Bromstad said in a statement. “It’s gratifying that Parenthood continues to garner critical acclaim and is generating highly positive reaction from viewers, thanks to the fearless creativity of its producers and the extraordinary performances delivered by its ensemble cast.”

I can’t even begin to describe how happy this makes me. But I’ll give it a shot: Yippeeeeeeeee!

    YAY! Love this show =D

    • zeddicus zu’l zorander

Why? This show sucks. Watch LEGEND OF THE SEEKER instead – that shows dynamics of love, friendship, and heroism. And its not pretentious. EW – COVER LEGEND OF THE SEEKER!!!

      • Sought

Saw your show with some friends. What a joke. A horrible show. We laughed it off of the screen!

      • yourmomma

        no.. you suck

      • Mike

LOL Legend of the Seeker? Is this a joke or something? Who put you up to this? lol GO PARENTHOOD!!!! Me and my friends are totally in love with this show!

      • yourpapa

At least LEGEND OF THE SEEKER isn’t making futile efforts to depict reality.

    • Melody

I’m soooooo excited! The show is worth it, and now more people can see it for themselves.

  • Kpryde

    Hooray!!!!

    • Zeddicus zu’l zorander

FOOL!, you should be angry that LEGEND OF THE SEEKER has yet to be renewed.

      • Jeff

Perhaps you should push that derivitive, sword & sorcery drivel in a forum where people might even care.

  • Lauren

YES! I am so happy about this!

    • ashleigh

YAY TIME TO CELEBRATE GOOD THING I MADE COOKIES!

seriously though, this is the best network drama on air right now, with the most likable, complex characters. And who can really get enough of Dax Shepherd and his tight shirts?

  • Stacy

YAY! It’s my new must-see show and I’m glad NBC is giving it a chance when it’s starting to get sooooo good.

  • Nicole

Yay! I really love this show – it’s gotten better and better with each episode, and it’s really made me question all of the negative things I’ve heard about Dax Sheppard. What’s up with that? He’s great on Parenthood, as is the rest of the cast.

Now about Chuck….are they going to keep us on edge until the very last minute like last year? I’m prepared to go to Subway regularly again if necessary.

    • Johnification

Me too…I’m stubbornly boycotting my local Subway after a credit card screw-up, but for Chuck I will swallow my pride (along with a 6-inch Philly Cheesesteak Sub).

    • Katie

Ditto. No limit to what I’ll do for a season 4 of Chuck.

    • Hope

Double ditto Not backing down till we get a renewal.

  • Miss Talk

    What about Melrose Place, please?

    • BlatantURLPimpingMustDie

Yes, Mike! Dozens upon dozens of people are on pins and needles about “Melrose”!

      • Arnold

        don’t be so flippant, a dozen dozens is 144 people… That’s a lot

    • Eros

      go back to 1995 douche-nozzle

    • Zo

Um, I’m with you. I like Melrose too, much more so than the 90210 reboot. It’s mind candy after a long day… pretty, pretty mind candy!

  • Emily L

That is great news! Love the show!

  • Duncan MacLeod

Awesome… my favorite new drama… while i can see the archetypes from the 1989 movie, they havent been beholden to those storylines.

  • Eros

Finally NBC makes a smart move, as oppose to there usual bonehead approach.

  • Joseph T

! yay, good news. peter k is great on the show.

  • Toni (@ImStillToni)

I am VERY happy to hear this, Parenthood is a wonderful show that is partially eclipsed by the Tuesday night line up…if you haven’t watched it yet, give it a chance.

  • Saracen Riggins

Best news I’ve heard all day! Scratch that… all week.

  • just me

Really good show. Way better than the soap opera that Brothers & Sisters has become.

    • Zoe

Totally agree. B&S is completely over the top. I enjoy it, but man–what a soap that show has become. Parenthood is far more grounded in reality (aside from the fabulous home interiors and houseboat, of course :-)

      • just me

LOL at the “fabulous home interiors”! I love their back yard best… it looks like a commercial for Crate & Barrel.

      • bdoll

how is the houseboat unrealistic? i have friends that live on really nice houseboats at the berkeley marina.

      • mae

I agree wholeheartedly – B&S should get a clue from Parenthood – excellent stories and I actually care about the characters. I really do NOT like any of the characters portrayed on B&S, every single one is an annoying whiner, and the writing is dull and boring. It’s time to pull the plug on this show.

      • Heathro

Sorry Mae, but you may not get the whole concept of B&S, it’s suppose to be this way, a total dysfunctional family of adult children who cannot function normally on their own. It is the sole purpose of what B&S is all about.

B&S might have its dull episodes, but the best part of the show is when you think the dysfunctions is going to come from the adult sib who is in the story line, it takes the viewer down another path.

    • KF

So just posted this comment this morning…(ignore comment about crappy recapper, but it did suck!) Recapper=sucks. Looking for new recap to read on Monday mornings, but am almost done with the show. NBC’s Parenthood is everything Brothers & Sisters used to be. Fun, pithy, engaging minus the Ojai business going under for the 3RD TIME! Please, please no more Ojai drama.

  • francesco Cerniglia

Best tv news in recent times. Now it’s time to secure the renewal of Life Unexpected and 10 things I hate abut you and maybe Ill be able to get over the cancellation of Ugly betty.

  • brandon

great show, excited for season 2
