Image Credit: Kristin Callahan/Everett CollectionThe Early Show’s Julie Chen is set to return from maternity leave in just a couple of weeks, but she’s already exploring new options now that she’s had her first child with CBS Corp CEO Leslie Moonves. An insider confirmed online reports that Chen is developing a View-like talk show pilot in which she and other panel members would discuss topical events from a mother’s point-of-view. Sara Gilbert (Roseanne) also has signed on as a panelist and will help executive produce the pilot that’s under consideration to replace the canceled As the World Turns. It’s unclear how the new talk show, if picked up, would affect Chen’s duties on Early Show, but she is still expected to return as host of Big Brother this summer.
There was early speculation that CBS could replace As the World Turns with a CBS/Paramount-produced talk show hosted by Valerie Bertinelli, but the network opted to develop the aforementioned panel series and game shows instead. CBS, in fact, confirmed that it plans to shoot a new pilot for Pyramid, which was originally considered as a replacement for Guiding Light until the network decided to go with a redux of Let’s Make a Deal instead. The project from Sony will be exec produced by Michael Davies (Who Wants to Be A Millionaire). Rumor has it the eye may also shoot a pilot for Password, which first aired in 1961 and was hosted by Allen Ludden. CBS launched a prime time version dubbed Million Dollar Password that was hosted by Regis Philbin in June 2008; it attracted 10.69 million viewers. Still, that remake was yanked after a second, abbreviated season.
This wouldn’t be the first time that someone tried to make a mom version of The View. Telepictures developed a pilot featuring Kate Gosselin and Food Network star Paula Deen last year, but the project was scuttled. Gosselin is now set to star in her own TLC show Twist of Kate that’s expected to bow this summer.

I hope for all our sakes that she gets this new talk show gig just so she is off the Morning Show. It has been SOOOO enjoyable without her on it!!
Totally agree! Her presence on the Early Show is totally unnecessary, as well as annoying – they have enough hosts/anchors as it is.
Nepotism at work. Truly talented people have it hard in Hollywood, why else would Blossom guest star on Big Bang Theory?
she is only on TV because she is that idiot’s trophy wife…or should I say boobie prize?
No! Don’t bring around a Julie Chen talk show – we don’t need another talk show! Bring back Pyramid instead!
I imagine Julie can do anything she wants on that network, with Les in charge.
Still mourning ATWT’s departure ahead, but like the idea of a mommy talker as long as it does not make headlines itself. I love PYRAMID and PASSWORD and would love to see them return but not in dumbed-down versions. Can DEAL just be cut loose? I know it does better the GL did ratings-wise but… Ugh!
she is devoid of personality so im not sure this would work.
Julie Chen has the personality of a dish towel. She ruins Big Brother every year with her monotone voice and stiff delivery.
Julie Chen’s next act: a daytime talk show. But first…
How about “But First with Julie Chen”?
Not interested – she’s a lifeless mannequin.
OMG I totally agree. She is a barbie doll. NO personality whatsoever. Have you ever seen the British version of Big Brother? Davina McCall is the total opposite of Julie, hilarious & fabulous. Julie is just a talking head.
as long as she comes back for Big Brother, I don’t care what else she does!
Love the Chenbot!
Me too!
Hey, nepotism does pay off at CBS, as banging the boss for the buck really helped whatever career she has. What a talentless hack and whatever Moonvees saw in her to marry this scuzz is beyond me.
Jed I bet you are just a dreamboat!! ha
I remember the first day of the Early Show with Julie Chen when the four hosts started to have a conversation about child-rearing and childless-as-of-yet Julie Chen had nothing to say.
Why do I remember this?
The future is now! A robot with its own talk show!
Chenbot rules. As long as she’s still doing BB, I’m happy.
I think that to do a topical show about being a mother you need to have been one for a while. Simply having a newborn and being a technical mother doesn’t make you one. Experience is the name of the game. And I wouldn’t watch a show of mothers that are celebrities, because I would question how much mothering and parenting they actually do, with nannies, etc. I think for a View type show of mothers to work, it would have to be someone that people really respect as a mother, even unknowns that they just told us about in the first episode, etc. And why not? How about some fresh faces in the tv world, fresh, wrinkled, healthy mom faces? That’s what I would watch.
Yes, I’m replying to myself, sorry!
I think a great host for a parenting View type show would be the mom of the Cosby show. She’s bright, older, has had kids, and probably grandkids, and who dislikes her? She’s the perfect person to host that type of show.

Must be nice to have a husband BIG-WIG at CBS who throws off a beloved show of over 50 years to give his wifie another inane talk show.
HI JULIE
I DO NOT KNOW IF YOU HAVE A HAIR PIECE ON THE BACK OF YOUR HEAD
OR IF YOU TEASE THE BACK
BUT YOUR HEAD LOOKS SO LARGE FROM THE SIDE
LOOK AT THE OTHER LADIES AT YOUR TABLE
THEIR HEADS LOOK NORMAL
I DON’T MEAN FOR THIS TO BE MEAN
GOD BLESS
