'Sons of Anarchy' signs Hal Holbrook

hal-holbrookImage Credit: Chris Hatcher/PR PhotosFX announced today that the Emmy-winning Hal Holbrook (Into the Wild) will have a guest starring role in the third season of Sons of Anarchy, which bows in September.  Holbrook will appear in a four-episode arc, beginning with the premiere episode. He’ll play Nate Madock, the father of Gemma Morrow Teller (Katey Sagal), in the drama about an outlaw motorcycle club.

Production on the next 13 episodes of Sons of Anarchy begins tomorrow. The second season of the drama that also stars Ron Perlman ranked as the highest-rated single season of an original series in FX history: It averaged 4.48 million viewers and 3.16 million adults between the ages of 18 and 49.

I can’t wait until next season to find out what happened to Jax’s son.

    • Bah

Yeah, this little kidnapping has ruined the show. How ridiculous.

      • pffft

lol, something that happened in the last few minutes of the last episode of last season ‘ruined the show’? Now thats ridiculous.

      • TLP

the kidnapping was an excellent climax to the season!

      • Deanna

Able being kidnapped just roped in all of the viewers from last season…. i know myself and all of my friends who watch will be gathered round the television come september!!!

      • DT

I agree with Bah on that point point. I had decided that they’d gotten silly with the plot contrivances, but now they’ve gone and cast quality acting legend Holbrook so–damnit–it looks like I’m back in the fold after all.

      • Lisa

I don’t think the kidnapping has ruined the show….yet. If they drag it on it will. They need to resolve it within the first three episodes

      • Eric

I think the kidnapping showed they are running out of ways to keep the show interesting. We will find out in the first few episodes of the season.

  • Via

Oh, this is gonna be good.

  • Visan

    Fantastic news!

SoA is the BEST! Can’t wait ’til next season!

i am on edge waiting for S3!
poor jax, gemma on the run, abel..omg..biting my nails on edge!

  • stan

This should help get the show the attention it deserves!

  • Alicia

I’m a huge fan of Kurt Sutter and can’t
wait to see how this storyline plays out!!!

  • Ben

I can hardly wait to see a biker version of Hal Holbrook, wearing tats all over his wrinkly arms. I guess they couldn’t land Abe Vigoda?

    • Via

Wasn’t Gemma raised in a traditional/religious home? I could be wrong, but it seems like I remember that being mentioned before.

      • branden

yes she was and she ran away to be with jax’s father and the club, i dont think hal holbrook will be a tattooed biker

  • coach

Seems like once you are in then it is hard to wait for the next season, SOA is a must see keep the characters real to what a bikers life is like, and the family aspect, great job.

  • Jobless

Hal so deserved that Oscar for Into the Wild.

    • peggym

Yes, Javier Bardem (sp?) was really a lead in No Country for Old men. I hateit when the leads list themselves as “Supporting” to get the prize. Hal Holbrook had a true supporting role, and was amazing.

    • Heisenberg

      Amen to that!

  • Gerard

You have to remember that Gemma rebeled against her family so her dad won’t have any tat’s. Definately looking forward to the new season.

  • jack

LOVE THAT SHOW! I cant wait for it to start up again.

  • Bill

The only bad thing about SoA is having to wait until Sept. Keep it real Kurt! Season 3 should be awesome.

  • Michelle

    Gonna be a Show…down!

  • Michelle

    THANKS FOR ALL THE UPDATES!!

  • Gingercat

Love Hal and Katie! Should be great TV seeing them as Father/daughter.

    • SOMDJeepGirl

Seeing Gemma leaving town with Unser makes me wonder if she is going to visit her dad(Hal Holbrook). He raised her in a Christian home and she HAS been frequenting church services lately. Hmmm….
