Image Credit: FoxHere’s some good Glee news that doesn’t involve A-list casting coups or top-shelf catalog acquisitions: Sources confirm to me exclusively that the show’s producers intend to upgrade Naya Rivera and Heather Morris, who play BFFs with benefits Santana and Brittany, to full-fledged series regulars.
Although a show spokesperson declined to comment, I’m told the duo’s likely promotion would kick in next season.
Earlier this month, Morris made no secret of her desire to go full-time on Glee. “I am technically not a series regular, but I’m climbing the ladder,” Morris told us. “Maybe in season 2.”

I think the spin off is a joke, the show’s doing amazingly well and would do better with one. But it seems to early for it.
i feel like these are the kind of characters that could have a really funny series of webisodes, if they were done right.

After hearing how impressively Naya belted out her part in “Like a Virgin”, I’m really looking forward to hearing Santana take lead on a song. And more of Heather’s classic one-liners are definitely welcomed; Heather has perfect comedic timing.
I want them on Glee while theu can pass for high school students. When its time to graduate, a “Brittany/Santana show” at college could be pretty funny.

Naya Rivera is an amazing singer and she and the girl who plays Britt deserve to be series regs. Especially now that Britt is on par with Sue Sylvester and her amazing lines.
it’s true, I find myself quoting Brittany’s lines a lot. Her character is so funny. I think she’s really in this show for dance, but hopefully we’ll hear her sing.
She has about two words of solo in the extended version of “Express Yourself” — I THINK it’s her, anyway, by process of elimination — and her voice is definitely worth hearing. I hope Shuester gives Brit and Santana some well-deserved solo time… or at least that Ryan Murphy does.
absolutely not. at least to naya. she’s evil. we just got rid of terri and her humpy sister. i watch glee for enjoyment of music and to feel good. these characters don’t make me feel good, though brit is so dumb she’s funny.
awesome news! these 2 are hilarious and having been stealing the show ever since they’ve actually been given lines. Rivera seems to have an awesome voice too if “Like A Virgin” was an indication. Give her some solos!
They are great and my favorites on the show! Naya’s voice is amazing and I’m glad in the second half of season one they started to give her the opportunity to shine. Heather has said that she wants a solo, to Britney Spears. She is an amazing dancer who toured with Beyonce and that’s why the initially took her for show. Love the idea of more of the two of them.
These are the kind of characters that offer laughs in small doses, but will wear less well if promoted to big players. (Think of someone like Newman in Seinfeld).
I think it’s a bad move to make them co-stars of the show.
2nd tier characters can make an adjustment up… look at Frasier from Cheers. Idiocincrancies are the hallmark of secondary characters, but they can be crafted into the quirks of larger characters.
They’re the least interesting characters on the show. I don’t see much point in taking away storylines from an already large cast to write something up for someone who is essentially the occasional comin-relief. Glee already just skirts the over-to-top, Do we really need even MORE teen-aged agnst?
They’re both better than Quinn. Quinn lip/mouth acts. Annoying. When she’s not even saying anything she’ll hold her mouth open, or after finishing a sentence, she’ll again hold her mouth open for a while. Not my favourite character, but I still think she’s a better match to Finn than Rachel. Rachel is crazy, and not in an adorable way. Just crazy.

Do you have any information on whether or not Brittany and Santana are bi? I’ve heard rumors, but it never occurred to me personally.
In the 13th episode it is implied via a very funny slip-up by Brittany that she and Santana have had sex.
Pretty sure that’s what he meant by BFFs with benefits.
They mention making out in front of guys, and Brittany makes that mistake in episode 13 where she tells everyone that they’ve had sex. Ryan Murphy has confirmed it. So fact, not rumors!

If there was no Marc/Amanda spinoff, these very secondary, lesser written charcters who will wear out their welcome shortly, will not be getting a spinoff.

i think its way more feasible that britney/santana would get a spinoff show on fox considering that fox has given that family guy dude how many freakin shows? abc should do a mark and amanda spin off or a family show centered around justin bobby and hilda but i cant even think of any abc spinoffs…

Seth is no longer funny. Loved family guy before cancellation but it has sucked ever since it came back. The jokes feel forced.

Heather Morris is an AMAZING dancer. She toured with Beyonce and performed Single Ladies with her in all her live performances. (rewatch Beyonce’s SNL, Today Show or AMA performances- you’ll see what I’m talking about- she’s the white girl on the right). She actually taught the Glee kids the choreography for the Single Ladies dance and that’s how she got the part. The girl is a natural- she’s an unbelievable dancer. She needs to get more screen time to showcase her dancing talent. Hopefully this promotion will allow for that to happen!
I love these two…and Brittany’s line in the promos for this week’s show cracks me up every time I think of it–”I’m pretty sure my cat’s reading my diary”…
You know what I love about Brit’s one-liners? Watching everyone else in the scene react to them. It’s worth a rewind just to see everyone try to figure out how to respond to such awesome non-sequiters.

Also agreed! I hope we get some significant character development for Matt and Mike this season especially with the “casting call/search” for 3 new characters for next season…. It’s criminal that the “mean jock slushie crew” have gotten more lines than our boys… heck, Matt has yet to utter a single sylable! I think that they’ve already filmed the finale, but I’d like to see one episode centered on the “backups”… perhaps with a little emphasis on dance since all 4 seem to have the most dance skills…
An episode dedicated to Matt, Mike, Britt, and Santana would be AWESOME. Or even an episode that focused on everyone but the main seven characters (Schue, Sue, Emma, Rachel, Finn, Quinn, and Puck).
You’re right, Dani, and Matt has only had one line. (“It’ll be choppy,” when Finn asked him, Matt, and Brittana to come up with last-minute choreography for Sectionals.) This needs to be rectified pronto, PTB!

I was very pleasantly surprised by Naya Rivera’s vocals in “Like a Virgin” and the iTunes version of “Express Yourself.” Heather Morris (Brittany) gets a teeny bit of time in that song, too, and I would definitely love to hear more of her voice as well! Glee PTB: Give these girls a duet. They’d rock it, I’m sure.
