David Hasselhoff returns to 'Young and the Restless'

david-hasselhoffImage Credit: Solarpix/PR PhotosLook who’s coming home to Genoa City! EW.com has learned that David Hasselhoff will briefly reprise his role as Dr. William “Snapper” Foster, Jr. on The Young and the Restless. He’ll return to the show’s Los Angeles set in May for an arc that will start airing in mid-June. The Baywatch star got his start in TV by starring on the popular sudser from 1975 to 1982.

“In 1976, Bill Bell, creator of America’s No. 1 soap opera, took a chance on a young and very green actor,” Hasselhoff said in a statement given exclusively to EW.com. “Playing Snapper in 850 shows during the six years I appeared molded my craft, my attitude and my work ethic. Being asked to come back to appear in several episodes gives me a chance to say thanks, as I have an amazing amount of respect and heartfelt emotion for Bill, his family and my time on Young and the Restless. I just hope I can remember all those lines.”

It seems likely that Hasselhoff will address his return to Restless in his upcoming reality show for A&E, but CBS could not confirm.

Hasselhoff won’t be the only Foster family member to stage a surprise homecoming: Veteran TV actor Wings Hauser will also reprise his role as Snapper’s brother Greg, and Julianna McCarthy will pick up where she left off in 2008 as matriarch Liz Foster Brooks. She is the mother of Jill Foster Abbott, who is currently played by the Emmy-winning Jess Walton (who didn’t start playing the character until 1987 so there will be no vintage shots of the Foster family). While in Genoa City, Hasselhoff’s Snapper married Chris Brooks and had an affair with Sally McGuire, who bore his son Chuckie.  On the wedding day of Snapper’s mother and Chris’s father, they presented the couple with new granddaughter Jennifer Elizabeth Foster. Snapper supposedly left Wisconsin in 1982 to accept a three-month fellowship in London to teach; he ended up staying there.

'Big Bang Theory' first look: Mayim Bialik crushes on Sheldon!

big-bang-theoryImage Credit: Sonja Flemming/CBSThose are some serious daggers Sheldon is shooting special guest star Mayim Bialik in this exclusive image from The Big Bang Theory‘s May 24 season finale. But there’s a thin line between loathing and lust — the only question is whether Jim Parsons’ asexual physicist will cross it. A possible clue can be found in the fine print of the ex-Blossom star’s Big Bang contract. Sources confirm that the hitcom’s producers have an option to bring her brainiac character back next fall. Of course, a romance would seem to fly in the face of exec producer Chuck Lorre’s third-gender theory. Bottom line: I have no clue where this is leading.

'Two and A Half Men' actress on Charlie Sheen: 'He could walk away and be happy'

Categories: Deals, Television

holland-taylor-sheenImage Credit: Michael Ansell/CBSNo word yet on whether CBS and Warner Bros. TV have managed to convince Charlie Sheen to stay another season or two on CBS’ Two and A Half Men, but at least one fellow cast member hopes they “support him appropriately.” Co-star Holland Taylor, who plays Charlie’s mom Evelyn Harper, told EW.com that while Sheen is “the brand of the show,” she doesn’t know whether the actor will return for a reported salary of nearly $1 million per episode. Sheen’s contract is about to expire and he reportedly hinted that this season could be his last.

“It’s a toss-up,” Taylor admitted to EW.com, while walking the red carpet of the TV Land Awards on Saturday. “I mean, Warners is going to have to realize that they have to support Charlie Sheen appropriately. He is the brand of the show. A decade ago, every kid on Friends was paid $1 million an episode.

“I think he could walk away from it and be happy,” Taylor continued. “Whatever he does, he commits himself and works very hard. He knows his lines before anybody. He is on time and responsible for the show, and a good guy on the set.”

Taylor said she hasn’t heard any talk of CBS continuing the No. 1 sitcom without Sheen. “I can’t even imagine.” – With reporting from Nicholas White

Academy of Country Music Awards won night but down in ratings

reba-mcentireImage Credit: Kevin Winter/Getty ImagesRatings for awards shows and big events have been impressive this year but it looks like the streak may have finally ended with last night’s Academy of Country Music Awards. Though the three-hour extravaganza from Las Vegas, Nev. won its timeslot in viewers (13.05 million) and adults 18-49 (2.1 rating/7 share), it appears to be this season’s first awards show to actually post declines: It was down 12 percent in viewers and down 16 percent in adults 18-49, according to ratings provided by CBS. (To be fair,  last year’s ACMs were the highest since 1998 and ran against repeats.) Last night’s show, which was up against originals, still won its timeslot among homes, adults 25-54 (4.2/10) and adults 18-34 (2.1/07).

Ratings for kudos fests and big events have surged this year: It started with the Emmys last September, which rose 9 percent from the previous year, and stretched to the World Series on Fox. (Averaging 19.4 million, it was the most watched Fall Classic in five years.) Recording industry events like the Country Music Awards (up 7 percent) and the American Music Awards (up 17 percent), both in November, kept the momentum going into January, when the People’s Choice Awards and the Grammys saw substantial growth (up 15 percent and 36 percent, respectively). NBC’s coverage of the Winter Olympics got off to a golden start, with 129 million people watching the first four days. But the whopper was the record set by January’s Super Bowl: With 106.5 million viewers, it was the most watched television program ever.

Also, on March 7, the Academy Awards drew an average audience of 41.3 million viewers — Oscar’s best performance in five years.

Categories: House, Scoop

thirteen-chaseImage Credit: Mike Yarish/FoxWill it be Chateen or Thirace? I ask because, judging by my AA mailbag, there’s growing support for a Chase-Thirteen romance on House. Makes total sense on paper: They’re both pretty, they spend long hours together at work, they’re each coming off difficult breakups, and….did I mention they’re both really pretty? READ FULL STORY »

Wanda Sykes: Should she remain Fox's late-night star?

wanda-sykes-showImage Credit: Carin Baer/FoxWith her first season finale only a week away, Wanda Sykes has yet to learn whether Fox will pick up her fledgling late-night talk show for a second year. The hour-long program — which has featured guests like Erykah Badu, Chris Rock, Ray Romano, and Lisa Kudrow — has struggled to find an audience against NBC mainstay Saturday Night Live; so far this season, Sykes has averaged 2.1 million viewers and a 0.8 rating among adults 18-49, well below SNL’s 2.9 rating and down from what Fox’s Mad TV was averaging in the time period last year (a 1.1). Her show performs admirably in the young demographics, especially teens.
