“Jimmy was the natural choice as one of the most promising and likable young entertainers who will now have the chance to display his many talents on television’s biggest night,” said Paul Telegdy, NBC’s executive vice president of alternative programming, in a statement. “His proven skills as a comedian and host — as well as his openness to new ideas — will fully engage audiences and ultimately deliver a lively Emmy telecast.”

Added Fallon, “Hosting the Emmys has been a dream of mine ever since they told me I was doing it.”

This year’s show will be executive produced by Don Mischer Prods. Nominations for the awards will be announced Thursday, July 8 at 5:40 a.m. (PT) from the headquarters for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in North Hollywood, Calif.

NPH should have been the host again! ugh

    • jared

OH,PLEASE. Enough of that guy hosting awards shows. He flopped at the Oscars — you want to turn him into a game-show host next?

      • PiratesDaughter

He didn’t host at the oscars so he didn’t flop host. His performance did well with the key demographic his inclusion was there for….18-29 demo

      • Zeddicus “Zedd” Zu’l Zorander

I think NPH is talented, few people will disagree on that BUT he is getting a little overexposed and there is a little NPH fatigue going on. Stars that burn the brightest burn the fastest.

      • J-Marsh

Haha! NPH already filmed a pilot for a new game show!!

  • Zeddicus “Zedd” Zu’l Zorander

Lame, Jimmy is okay, but Craig Ferguson is 100000000000x funnier – maybe they want boring

    • Stevex

Get both Fallon AND Craig! They like each other, and it would be a good chance to show viewers that not all of late night is a bitter battleground. Plus, both are funnier than their 11:30 lead-ins.

      • girlie

great suggestion! it would work! but will miss NPH!

    • dakmart

Yes, Ferguson would probably be the better host, but the Emmys, which are about nothing if not promotion of the new fall season (why do you think they are on in late August?), are on NBC this year — you do the math.

Jimmy Fallon does seem random. I literally had no reaction to this news. It’s just blah.

      • red

i dont think it seems random at all he was amazing when he hosted mtvs music video awards in 2004

  • Andrew

I’ve always like Jimmy. he’ll be an excellent host.

    • Will

Same here. He’s funny, and he’s likable. He’s hosted award shows before (successfully) so I think it will work. However, those Emmy people don’t like a lot of hosts. Tough crowd.

  • Lemon

It’ll be hard to follow NPH, but I’ll be rooting for Jimmy! I love watching the Emmys anyways, so I’m not too picky.

  • Jody

    Yay! I love Jimmy!

  • Brett

At least the nepotism parade has Fallon, and not Leno, as its Grandmaster.

  • javi

why they didin’t ask connan to do it coco would be funnier i like jimmy but coco would have been awesomely funny.

    • Jay

Conan can’t be on TV as a host until September 1.

    • April

He did do it before – back in 2005 I believe. That opening was hilarious!

  • der

    sweet!

  • Cris

“Jimmy was the natural choice as one of the most promising and likable young entertainers …”
I think they got the wrong Jimmy. They were looking for Jimmy Kimmel

  • craig

PUKE! How does this guy get work at all? He’s not even remotely funny!!!! Pathetic!

  • Phil

Emmys are on NBC, so NBC probably has final choice on the hosts. Any better choices on that network?

    • Brooke

Yep, easy choice. It’s pretty unusual for the host to be from another network. I remember that when FOX had it a few years ago (the time before Seacrest hosted) they actually had 9 people host because they lacked a talent to host the whole night and didn’t want to give too much publicity to a competitor’s talent.

    • Akane

I guess the other choice was Jay Leno, not a good idea, so Jimmy makes sense. For me it would have been perfect if Conan was the host, he did a great job a couple of years ago, but since it is on NBC. The funny thing would be if Conan gets nominated as a writer (he has a few nominations and a win), would be nice to see it.

  • Usher

Remember when the dad from Family Guy punched out Jimmy Fallon for laughing at his own jokes and being the worst SNL alum of all time? Good times.

    • Icon

Yeah, nervous laughing and looking at the camera, that was all he did in SNL.

  • oh good, three hours of watching someone laugh at their own jokes. just what i need.

    • red

lmao I love jimmy but thats so true it gets a little old after awhile

  • CiCi

Well I guess we won’t be watching the Emmys this year…

    • Miss Talk

Then don’t write this, just don’t watch, period. smh to those haters… BOTHERED! Jimmy F FTW!And don’t hate on me, I’m seeing you…I say DON’T!

  • brandy

I just got a reason to watch! I love Jimmy.
