This one’s guaranteed to be watercooler talk among my Ausholes…once you figure out what show I’m talking about! Yet another series — this one, one of your major, major faves! — is playing the flash-forward card in its season finale. But…
Oh, c’mon, you knew there had to be a “but,” right? (Have I taught you nothing?) In this instance, the zoom won’t be permanent a la Brothers & Sisters, Desperate Housewives, et al. It’ll just be a glimpse of the future, not a relocation to it.
And when I say that what is in store for these characters a few years down the road will blow your minds, we’re talking kaboom! A big-bang kinda mind-blow!
So, guesses? What show would you most like a peek at the future of? The comments section below is all yours. Take it away…

Oh PLEASE let it be Greys Anatomy. Give us a glimpse that the show is going to be good again.
Yes! I need Grey’s to be a good show again… I haven’t really watched the new season.
You can say that again!! Pleast let us have Meredith at the center of the show, with her relationship with Derek, and the Fab Fi.. um, Three. We don’t care about Teddy’s Anatomy, or everyone else except The Grey.
SERIOUSLY!!! I am so sick of Owen and Teddy. Too much drama and angst, no fun. I hate that we only get 3 minutes of Meredith an episode, and only 8 of Derek, and he’s stressed and kind of a jerk, not the loving sweet talking McDreamy we all love!! Get rid of Owen and Teddy, or at least get rid of one of them and let the other one develop past “I was in Iraq. Now I’m messed up.”
its gna be Chuck…. remember ausi said that Josh schwartz said the season finale was gna be awesomely awesome!!!
Personally I think it’s Christina’s relationships that are ruining this show. Shondra just needs to stop trying to write them for the time being. We’ve lost Burke, gained Owen, lost George and gained Teddy. Christina’s directly responsible for 3 out of 4 of those. Just give the girl a hiatus for a while, let her be single, and come back to it when you can come up with a decent idea for it. Frankly I wish Owen and Teddy would get together and leave.
Well, I was with you up until you said you wanted Owen/Teddy to leave. I want them to be together & stick around awhile.
Oh, come ON! It’s GLEE.
It can’t be a procedure (Bones, L&O, any soap) because it guarantees the survival of the characters. But Glee, I don’t think anyone’s at risk of dying.
Thank you! No one is really stopping to ask, “How would a show likes Bones put up a “10 years later” title card” just out of nowhere.
‘Shippers, LOL.
I agree, it’s TOTALLY Glee! I think the idea is too hilarious.
I came on to say I think Gossip Girl could be it, but I really like the Glee idea as well.
Bones?
VOICE OF REASON HERE. It can’t be a straight drama that doesn’t have a structure that lends itself to a “flash forward.” DH could do it because it was accommodated by a Mary-Alice voiceover. How would a show like Bones or House present a “future glimpse”?
So it’s either a show with a voiceover that can tee up the flash, or it’s a show with a sci-fi element built in (e.g. Fringe, Supernatural, Smallville).
Apparently you haven’t seen the last season finale of ‘Bones’ and/or the discussion about the very first scene in that episode.
Lol, that’s true! They do Flashbacks on Bones, so why not Flashforwards, with Bones & Booth married with two kids?!
Dude, a simple “10 years Later” flashed up on the screen would take care of it.
I agree, Bones. Thought Process:
Last years finale: the end in the beginning. The episode BEGAN with Booth and Bones in bed. this is how the series will END.
this year, the beginning in the end: the BEGINNING of last year’s season finale (them in bed) at the END of this years.
I’m pretty sure it’s bones, Hart Hanson spoiled this a while ago saying that it wouldn’t be the last time they played around with time/alternate realities.
The West Wing did it pretty well at the start of their final season without a voiceover.
Best show of all time, just sayin’
Nice memory Jen. Great show indeed. And as an aside, the spooky part…since they couldn’t reveal the president, John Spencer was NOT in the flashback and no mention was made of Leo. Sadly, the flashback was shot well before Spencer died but it all fit together perfectly.
It can be Dexter, it will probably show the the kids a little more grown up and him getting back to his killing ways
Hasn’t Brian Peterson told Damian Holbrook that Clark gets a glimpse of his future in the season finale of Smallville? I would have thought that with season 10 being the last, there will be more Superman moments in the plate.
Who said 10 is the last season?
It would make a lot more narrative sense with Smallville, being a scifi show, but how would they make the future surprising? This is like the one show ever where we know where everyone’s going to end up, that’s the whole point.
I agree with lele. Smallville is a prequel, so we already know (roughly) where everybody ends up, we know Clark is supposed to become Superman. IMO there wouldn’t be any surprise in giving us a glimpse of the future, unless there’s some sort of twist to it. I’m tired of the show using the future to justify the past and present.
Bones!!!
Dude! Your killing me!
I’m guessing it’s a show that will be coming back next season, unlike LOST?
i would think it could be lost. they’ll show where everyone ends up.
LOST makes no sense at all. The post says it’s a TEMPORARY flashforward, meaning that next season goes back to the current timeline – lost is ending. And lost has already done lots of flash forwards, this wouldn’t be news.
Temporary could just mean it’s during the episode, but that they come back to the present day. He didn’t say it was the end of an ep.
Grey’s Anatomy.
Shonda hinted that the finale would be a game-changer, and something she had never done before.
I agree. She has done flashbacks and has gone into individual story lines. And Grey’s does have the voiceover effect in the beginning and the end so it could work.
This couldn’t be Bones, could it? Like a counter to last year’s finale? I hope not… Especially if he is being literal about the bang/explosiveness. Hmmm…I don’t think I have a good guess!
Hmmm, major fav…
Chuck?
I was thinking Chuck, too.
My first thought. Or maybe Supernatural
Chuck’s not coming back though.
How dare you say something so untrue like Chuck’s not coming back!
Chuck.
I don’t watch enough of the shows, but Chuck was definitely what came to my mind… it would be good to see just how many of the other characters are now in on the secret… and Chuck ain’t being cancelled just yet.
I doubt Chuck is doing the time warp thing, heck the show is not Heroes.
Yeah whenever Ausiello says MAJOR FAVE I think Chuck, too. But that “big-bang” has got me thinking The Big Bang Theory.
I was thinking the same thing.
I noticed that too…could be it.
I’m thinking the same thing too…
I was going to post that same thing. I wonder what the future holds for Sheldon. I bet you he becomes a -gasp- father.
But isn’t that too obvious?
I’m guessing my fav. Chuck.. its not renewed (yet) and they had to think up a finale after they were picked up for more episodes. By doing a “flash” forward (pun intended) it would give the fans something to hold onto incase they are not picked up for a fourth season.
Also, remember Casey used to be Major Casey.
Bones?? Now that would be intresting… they have to find ways of giving us BB without them being a couple… for now atleast!
Supernatural
If it is, after all the work this season and the tight story lines (well minus the Curious Case of Dean Winchester) I’m going to be seriously peeved. If Supernatural flashes forward 10 years for the last episode it better be because both Dean and Sam said yes and we’re having an Armageddon battle. Otherwise, I’m going to have serious issues with it being a cheap way out.
I absolutely agree! The way the timeline has worked out has got me really worried about what’s in store for the finale. You know, given they have two episodes left to put Lucifer back in his cage and all. And Sera Gamble has said next season will not be continuing the main storyline. So if they really choose to flashforward as a cheap way out I will be insanely pissed. Supernatural has been my favorite show for five years now, and it’s been pretty daamnn amazing all five years. I hope that Kripke won’t let them resort to such a tried trick of TV for the finale, or even next year.
The only hope is that Supernatural is so obviously a cult show versus a mainstream one. And we don’t get spoilers as often as some other shows, like Glee and Chuck and Grey’s Anatomy. So there’s a smaller chance it’s Supernatural.
Omg! i don’t even know what show you’re talking about and i’m already nervous!
probably isn’t The Vampire Diaries, but since it’s my favorite show, i’d looove to see the future!
Chuck
Bones! uh I would love to see them a few years later, just so we know hope is still there.
what would be the point of a flashforward on bones? seriously? what is wrong with you? this is why regular folks should not be writers. how the hell would that fit in with the program. why would you want to watch if you knew what happened?
oh come on, HH told us he already knows how B&B will end up eventually… and honestly: does anyone think for even a second they won’t end up together? Bones could definitely do a flash forward. and almost a year ago the show had a voiceover, so that wouldn’t be a problem either. I think they’ll end the season with something that makes fans mad (and I mean really really mad, not just like ‘last season finale-mad’) and to calm them down they’ll do a flash forward of the two of them being together or something.
House??? Lots of future plot lines are possible
no, it’s already well know what’s going on in the season finale.
No, we only know what they want us to know, big difference. I don’t know about any of the other shows (not watching any of them), but I wouldn’t rule out House.
Agree. We already know there is an explosion outside PPTH.
We know there’s an explosion. That’s it. Maybe the finale ends with a look into the future. It’s not out of the realm of possibility.
Lost…guess not.
Gleeeeeeee
Why not Lost?? Perhaps in the sideways world we see what happens to our Losties in the future and that’s how the show ends. Anyone that follows DarkUFO knows that several characters (who I won’t name) will be back for the finale. Ausiello states in the story that it’s “a few years down the road”. On island is happening in 2007 and the sideways is happening in 2004. After whatever happens on the island happens, we get a flash to our losties 3 years into the future in their sideways lives. Sounds like a possibility to me.
I agree. If it is just a glimpse and not a complete series game changer…Why not LOST? It would be pretty satisfying to have them end the show with a glimpse of the Losties future.
Totally sounds like Lost to me. He said season finale, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be series finale. What other show mixes explosions with time travel (and will need some flash-forward closure).
I’m guessing that Lost will probably show the future of the characters, but this blind item doesn’t fit. He says the jump is temporary, meaning that the show returns back to the present afterwards. Since LOST is ending, that would make no sense. Nor would LOST doing a flash forward be a surprise, much less something worthy of a news story.
