I enjoyed watching Betty White aka Rose Nyland on “Saturday Night Live” last night. I laugh during most of the show. She showed, older people still have a lot to offer and don’t put them out to pasture. You go girl!!!
Betty White was funny! I usually don’t like some of that vulgar comedy but if she’s game, then ok.My fav skit was that one with the consenus
Haven’t laughed so hard at most of the SNL scripts in a loooong time. Last night’s was excellent! Great job Betty, and I must say, Jay Z was great….classy too. I’m not a Jay-Z fan, but after last night, I may change my mind. Definitely not a pompous idiot like I thought all rappers are nowadays.
Loved Betty White and all the alums that showed up to support her. My Dad (84yrs) has NEVER CHOSEN to watch SNL. But,he was in the room when I was watching it, and laughed at every gag. I’ve never seen him GET the comedy about some of the skits, but he did. Thank you SNL
I’d be willing to bet that he *got* the humor before; it’s just not all that funny coming from a cast that’s entirely 50 to 60 years younger than you. It’s off-putting, because you know the intended audience thinks anyone over 50 wears Depends. He had someone he could relate to and felt included and relevant, because, if it was OK with Betty White, then it was OK! I hope, as others have expressed, that other, older actors are invited to host, and that perhaps an older regular/semi-regular cast member is hired. At the very least, it’s a good business move, expanding the market.
Good show last night. I’m happy Saturday Night delivered on all the hype.
Betty was beyond amazing last night! Best episode I’ve seen since the 90′s!!! I love the idea of Carol Burnett hosting. Think about it NBC
I heard somewhere that Betty White read the skit scripts and refused to do it. It was her agent that talked her into it. Time Betty gets a new agent.
You made this up.
Beth is thinking of Betty’s response that she didn’t want to do SNL at first when they offered, and her agent told her to do it. Nothing to do with the skits.
Betty White was amazing! But wish the dialog adaptations had been more SNL to Betty than Betty to SNL. Some colorful language shows off her show biz moxie but the “f” word and such, while providing shock effect humor, I think detracted from the natural dignity and respect she commands on her own. But my hat’s off to this wonderful lady.
Betty was awsome but Jay-Z was terriable. Only part of the show I had to turn the channel on. Also, although Betty was great, I think the writing could have been better. Every time she just played the grandma. She can do so much more than just playing the grandma and that would have been more funny, playing an a-typical character.
Agreed. Betty can do a great range of material, as anyone who watched “Boston Legal” knows. Definitely can the grandma stuff.
SNL is still on the air?
NBC, let it go.
Does Lorne Michaels have something on NBC?
Is he even still the producer?
Idiot.
Steven, stop. You’re making a fool of yourself.
JZ too long. Whitney sketch too long, got boring. Betty’s bits? She hit it out of the park. Way out of the park. Live forever young lady
I muted Jay Z and did other things (namely finish watching the most recent Bones online). I kept looking up to see if Jay Z was over yet… that went on forever. Agree Whitney went on too long, and wish that Puerto Rican thing would just go away. It is NEVER funny.
I’d about given up on SNL. I’ve been watching it since the beginning. In those days it was hot because the sketches were about something, usually social commentary. Lately it’s been about nothing, content-free, substituting acting stupid for social insight. Betty White was a breath of fresh of air, echoes of the edgy comedy that used to be the mainstay of SNL. Go Betty!
I agree with KIM and BOB CAIN: SNL is one of the biggest wastes of time on TV – always plays to the LOWEST common denominator EVEN WITH A GREAT CAST. Lorne Michael’s has been slumming along on past success for years. Now “MacGyvver” as a feature film? What – for the tax loss? Give me a f***ing break. Quoth the raven, “NEVERMORE!”
Wrong.
I think I may be Betty’s orginial fan. In 1953 I wrote letters to her, she had a children’s show on TV. I sent her a joke which she read on air. I still have the two autographed pictures she sent to me in an album.
Very strong numbers for Betty White hosting Saturday Night Live! You knew that a lot of people were going to watch it! It even doubled the ratings of the L.A. Lakers/ Utah Jazz game!
