Some sad news for fans of ABC’s Happy Town (Hello? Anyone? Bueller?). The poor man’s Twin Peaks is getting yanked off the air after this week’s airing. According to ABC, the ratings-challenged drama — which will be replaced with a Primetime special on May 19 and a rebroadcast of Transformers on May 26 — will return on June 2 with the first of five remaining episodes.

I obviously was the only one watching. Oh, well, glad I didn’t get too attached.
I liked it. Didn’t get a chance to love it. But they canceled the NINE and Life on Mars, so I’m not surprised.
I really enjoyed the Nine. It’s a shame it didn’t last.
See – I think ABC has set a bad precident for itself. It’s cancelled so many highly regarded shows pre-maturely (Pushing Daisies, Life on Mars) that early adapters simply aren’t tuning in and getting invested from day 1. I found myself doing that this year – now that I know Modern Family has legs, I’ll catch up this summer. V, Flash Forward, and Happy Town – I know aren’t going anywhere, so I’m simply not going to watch and get invested.
im with ya jeff!
@ Jeff W – You are a fools fool! “You simply aren’t tuning in” I wouldn’t be surprised if you turned into anything. Why don’t you pull your head out of a$$ and do something besides watching TV. Get a life clown!
@Sasha Grey, boy are you a stupid ignorant fool! Because some people get invested in shows they as you say “pull your head out of a$$ and do something besides watching TV”! What a bit*ch you are! How do YOU know he isn’t handicapped? Or retired? What the hell business is it of YOURS to make such a rude and crude comment? Yeah come here bit*h and let me slap that sarcastic crap right out of you! How about YOU get a life and STFU!
You with your bad self TK, that is the way to put it to her!!! ^5
@SashaGrey Translation: I read websites devoted to television so I can come here and make comments that make me feel superior to people with a certain interest. I use phrases like “get a life” and call names in an attempt to cheapen their chosen hobby or interest and make myself seem above it and cool. I fail to see the irony in the fact that I am trolling websites with subject matter I am not interested in and my *sole purpose* is to ridicule those that are interested and make *them* seem like degenerates and losers.
We got to see the pilot at WonderCon this year really liked it. ABC is once again canceling a good show before it even has a chance to get off the ground. Sometimes I think ABC and NBC share a brain.
Loved Life on Mars. Hate them for canceling it, but at least they let it go out with some dignity. It should be contractual: you agree to watch the network’s shows, and the networks promise to give it a proper burial if and when they decide to kill the show.
After having been made curious and looked up the ABC version of Life on Mars on imdb, I’m not surprised it was axed; a horrible copying/mishmash of the original, cancelled just as they ran out of storylines to copy/butcher.
The American “Life on Mars” was a far richer series than its British forebear, and developed the supporting cast well past the cartoons that were written for the BBC program. It was pretty much superior to the UK version in almost every way. Unfortunately, notice of a quick demise led the creative team to contrive a truly awful series finale for the American program.
Me too.
I did, too…but now that I know it won’t be back, I’m going to delete the episodes from my DVR and not get invested any more. Shame.
The creators of LOM wanted to film an alternate ending however ABC refused.
I think this show is fabulous
I was enjoying it! Couldn’t they give it enough time to get its engines running?
Oh well, I hope one season is enough to wrap up the mystery (à la Harper’s Island), I hate to be left dangling…
Thought about watching this glad I didn’t. They should give it a full season, though. Harper’s Island was awesome!
I hope they wrap it up and do not leave it with no ending. I was enjoying the show to be honest.Every thing else on tv lately is either reality, crime or in a hospital setting , with a few comedies
Nope, I was watching, too. Mostly for Amy Acker, Steven Weber and Sam Neill, but I didn’t think that it was THAT bad. It was very Harper’s Island-esque, although the acting wasn’t as bad.
i loved it!!!! Give it a chance. We need this, LOST is over and we need some more cliff hangers every week!
Please…. PLEASE bring back this show. I just got caught up and FREAKED out at the end of episode 6… now I just found out I may not see the ending! AAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!

I didn’t think the network had a whole of faith in it in the first place. I think the first episode was up against American Idol. Why did they bother showing it at all? At least we should get some sort of conclusion in those five episodes, right?

We tried at our house. We really tried. Just didn’t have much of a hook for us.
lol, i really tried too.
it was terrible.
the acting, script…horrendous.
really wanted it to be good…but no dice.

And they cancelled “Ugly Betty” for this? Fools.
Fo real! This show did worse in the ratings than Betty!
@ Media Ho — Exactly what I was thinking! I still miss Ugly Betty and no way will I watch a Primetime special, a Transformers rebroadcast or the five remaining episodes of Happytown. Serves ABC right.
i was thinking the same thing too.
ABC completely got what they deserved for cancelling Ugly Betty.

Well, didn’t it have DWTS as a lead-in? I’d call that giving it a pretty good chance.
Something tells me you’d call “The Jay Leno Show” a pretty good lead-in too.
seriosuly, DWTS beat American Idol in ratings. If you cant sustain a lead in from a show that gives Idol a run for it’s money. You’re screwed.
No… DWTS is on Mon and Tues… this is following the ABC comedy Wed… most people into comedies are not going to stick around for this one. It needed to be on another night…after Lost!!! Castle should be on Comedy Wed..
Were the ratings that bad?
It was averageing less than 4 million an episode!
I love this show.
And they wonder why we don’t all just watch any new shows any more ? Not every show will be a ratings jauggernaut. And now everyone expects nets to yank them – so many just wait and see if it will stay around before watching it.
This show wasn’t bad – it was just finding it’s legs.
Exactly. This is why I have stopped getting into new shows until I hear it’s confirmed for a second season, they barely give shows time to find an audience these days!
If ABC had alot of faith in Happy Town, they wouldn’t have launched it April 28th and cut the episode order from 13 to 8. I will watch the burnoff as it’s in June and there isn’t alot on anyways.
TRANSFORMERS is a network TV premiere, not a rebroadcast. Not a big deal either way, just sayin
You are basing that comment under the assumption that by the time the “rebroadcast” happens it will have not been broadcast a first time on network television. That would be a false assumption as there will be the network premier prior to the 26th, therfore making the 26th a rebroadcast.
Is it any surprise that this show failed? They cancelled Eastwick because it didn’t fit in with their Wednesday night comedies and Happy Town is even darker.
