Breaking: NBC picks up comedy 'Perfect Couples'

perfect-couplesImage Credit: Mitchell Haaseth/NBCTHIS JUST IN: NBC has picked up the romantic comedy Perfect Couples, bringing to six the number of new shows the Peacock net has ordered for fall. Keep reading for the official show description…

Per NBC, “Perfect Couples depicts the misadventures of three engaging couples as they struggle to find out what makes the ideal relationship — and how to maintain it through humorous trial-and-error. The series explores their heroic journey in search of the perfect relationship without destroying each other in the process. Dave (Kyle Howard, My Boys) and Julia (Christine Woods, FlashForward) are the relatable, normal couple, but Julia’s hope of remaining the cool, low-maintenance chick is tested by Dave’s attempts to keep both his wife and his needy best friend Vance (Dave Walton, NBC’s 100 Questions) equally happy. Vance, along with the neurotic Amy (Mary Elizabeth Ellis, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), are the high-passion, high-drama couple who bring out the best and worst in each other.  The third duo features Rex (Hayes MacArthur, She’s Out of My League), a reformed party guy, and his wife, Leigh (Olivia Munn, Attack of the Show), who considers herself as the group’s mother hen. Believing that they are relationship experts, Rex and Leigh have attended every class and seminar on relationships — and regard themselves as the ‘perfect couple.’”

Perfect Couples joins previously announced NBC newbies Chase, Undercovers, The Event, Love Bites, and Outsourced.

Sounds like a fun show. Why is NBC the first/only one to announce official pilot pickups though?

    • Hiro Kitty

      OLIVIA MUNN!!!

      • Will

seriously!!!! I might watch this…just for her!

      OLIVIA MUNN!!!

  • Tim G. (@rural_juror)

Oh boy. Sounds… totally new and original.

    • blinkone

It is Tim…if you don’t count “Living Single,” “Friends,” etc.

      • me

It doesn’t sound anything like either of those shows.

    YAY! OLIVIA MUNN!!!

    YAY! OLIVIA MUNN!!!

  • Kalade

Does this mean Olivia Munn will be leaving AOTS…cause she brings the funny.

    • bkwrm

She announced today on AOTS that she was still fully committed to the show.

      • Will

like Joel McHale with Community and the Soup

  • Jaymii

So, does this mean Friends With Benefits (with Fran Kranz) is dead or is this the same show?

    • Ryan

      Same show, new title

      • kris

No, they are two different shows. Friends with Benefits still has a shot, but it isn’t looking good now.

  • Lau

Does this affect Chuck in any way? That’s the only thing I care about.

    • Mitch Logan

Yes, there is now only enough space on the schedule for Chuck to be a half hour show.

  • LOL

    Still no word on Chuck?

    • PJM

It has supposedly been picked up for a 13+9 season. Meaning 13 eps in the fall, plus 9 more if things go well. Just like all the other new shows in the fall.

  • Whatever

Strangely, and I’m very surprised to admit it, it looks fine and I have a good feeling about this one… I think I’d watch it… Oops, it’s on NBC… How long will it last ?

  • charlie

YEA, more white people on television!

    • Becs

      my first thought exactly…

    • elrhawk

My thoughts exactly! Just from the promo pick, all the couples are milktoast!

    • Honkyville

PERFECT WHITE COUPLES should be the title.

      • Jo

This show looks VERY white!! Don’t they know we are OVER all white shows

      • Billy

Olivia Munn is Chinese. But thanks for playing the race card!

      • Brandon

        No, she’s half-Japanese, half-caucasian.

      • Jo

Oh and that really makes a difference! Half of a minority here! We have diversity!

    • Me

I was thinking that too! Can we get an asian or black or latino couple in there? even a token one?

      • D

No kidding! Even Army Wives knew to get one black couple in the mix.

    • aurelia

I thought that too. God knows we need more bland white twentysomethings making sex jokes, because “Friends” copycatting wasn’t run deep, deep into the ground a full decade ago or anything.

      • Jo

And Friends was a rip off of Living Single.. Which was an ALL BLACK CAST!!

    • Sara

MTE! I’m white, but that doesn’t mean I only ever want to see people who look like me on every show! Also…would it have been so hard to have a gay couple in the mix?

    • KRG

I thought the same thing. You know there are couples of other races under 35..Why does EVERY couple have to be white? I am in a mixed race couple. My friends are in couples of British, Asian, Latino, etc. We would really appreciate seeing ourselves on TV too NBC..no wonder your ratings tank.

      • modc

so i thought i’d be really original and be the first to comment on this, but i’m glad to see that i’m not. this is a little bit ridiculous. zero diversity? thanks, NBC for giving us another show with no (or no realistic) non-white characters. really. your progressivism astounds me.

  • Sara

Uuuhhhh…if Kyle Howard’s here, what about My Boys? Or did I just not realize that the show was over. I love Jordana Spiro.

    • Amy

As far as I know it has not been cancelled. But this makes me even concerned that My Boys ends after the season airing this summer, since Jordana Spiro is in Love Bites. I really hopes it’s one of those things that allows for flexible filming schedules.

    • laylagalise

That’s the first thing I thought. Hopefully they can do both. ‘My Boys’ is bound to be better than whatever they’ll be starring in.
