Exclusive: NBC unveils Emmy submissions!

emmy-storyImage Credit: Byron Cohen/NBC; Chris Haston/NBC; Larry Watson/FoxEvery year prior to Emmy nominations, the suits at the major TV studios stuff voters’ mailboxes with tons of DVDs featuring what they feel are their shows’ best episodes of the season. I just got a hold of Universal Media Studios’ fancy Emmy kit, and here are the episodes they chose to single out from this season’s Office, 30 Rock, Parenthood, etc. Note: These may differ from the formal submissions that are used in determining the winners. Also, keep in mind that Emmy-worthy episodes that aired after the mailer deadline could not be included, which is presumably why SNL didn’t include the Betty White episode.

Parks and Rec’s episode “Hunting Trip” deserves an Emmy!

    • Nadine

      “Hunting Trip” was stellar!

      • Ron

What about “Park Safety” and “Sweetums”??

    • KLC

Love every episode of Parks and Rec this season, but I’m surprised they didn’t go with “The Possum” as an Emmy submission!

  • Vivian

Parks and Rec’s episode “Hunting Trip” deserves an Emmy!

    • LOL

      YES!

      • Aaron

Definitely, although my favorite half hour of television this season was the “Greg Pikitis” episode.

      • Liz

Greg Pikitis is still my favorite ep of P&R. Also the episode of Community that was on last week (the paintball one) deserves an Emmy and I hope it will be submitted. PS If Jay Leno wins any kind of Emmy I will be boycotting.

      • Jake

Community’s paintball episode was an immensely fun and perfectly executed (literally) half hour of comedy, covering the range of the action genre from Die Hard to John Woo. Great episode.

    They could’ve at least given VDO & KE a shot at an Emmy. Instead they wait for the ep after they leave. Nice. :{

    • ??

I’m sorry but I have no idea what you just said. I really wish people would stop using random abbreviations

      • Ryan O’Brien

Vincent D’Nofrio and Kathryn Erbe of Criminal Intent

      • mary q contrary

I agree with ??, I had no idea what VDO & KE were.

      • AJ

I know, right? I mean, probably about 15 people in the world know who Kathryn Erbe is anyway, she’s not big enough to abbreviate. What were you thinking?

    • bringbackrocky

I agree with you completely. It’s bad enough that get rid of the 2 of them but to not submit any one of their episodes for Emmy consideration is lousy but not surprising considering how NBC has treated its other performers this year. (And, yes, I’m talking about Conan). Jeff Goldblum continues to underwhelm every week. VDO’s quirkiness was part of his character and, as his character’s history played out over the years, you knew why he was the way he was. With Goldblum, it just comes across as too many acting tics.

      • Steppy412

I think L&O Crim Intent w/ Goldblum was submitted for the publicity. I haven’t watched since Goren and Eames left, and apparently few others have. It seems reruns of NCIS and Spongebob have higher ratings!

      • Achmad

Hey, I love green and yellow, that’s two of my fatvrioe color combinations! (I even used it in my wedding last year.) It’s the epitome of Springtime!Happy Monday love!www.brittanyhavican.blogspot.comPS- I’m hosting a jewelry GIVEAWAY this afternoon! Please come and see!

The Son is a great choice for FNL, hopefully it’ll finally break the snub streak.

    • aej

Yeah, if that episode doesn’t score a nomination (win?) for FNL, no episode ever will.

    • juliebeth

FNL deserves emmy recognition more than 95% of the shows that get nominations. And I say this with a limited knowledge of those that get nominations. ;)

    • Julie Taylor

if Zach Gilford doesn’t get at least a nom for this episode, I’ll give up on television all together…. at least until Season 5

      • Bri

Julie Taylor, I agree, and is it a coincidence that your name is Julie Taylor? :P

      • Billiam

Except that Gilford is technically a gueststar, and the Emmys pretty much only nominate guest stars who are also movie stars. Which I hate. “30 Rock” always dominates the comedy guest star category with guests who generally did pretty poor jobs on the show.

    • Anthony

I just spoiled the episode by reading the summary. :(

      • L

Me too. Since the episodes already aired on Direct TV, it’s been hard to stay in the dark about the season’s plots.

      • Michael

yeah that stinks … spoiled here too but it’s about the journey not the destination, right?

      • mary q contrary

I watched the episode on DirecTV, so it’s been awhile, but if I’m not mistaken, NBC will be airing it in the next few weeks, as I seem to remember it happening fairly early in the season. GREAT episode.

    • Sammi

The Son is a great choice for FNL, definitely one of the best episodes of the series ever! I really hope to see FNL and some of its actors get the nominations they have deserved for so many years! This year in particular I’d love to see Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton up for lead actor and Zach Gilford up for supporting actor.

The House episode was a given. Arguably one of the best episodes of House ever.
If that doesn’t win, than House never will.

    • J

House isn’t winning anything this year. The show is garbage and everyone knows it.

      • lisa

        go away.

      • Kara

I don’t think the show is total garbage but that episode was so self indulgent. I think the Cuddy centric one or this week’s episode is MUCH better. Broken was lame!

      • Maggie

“Broken” was an amazing episode. Hugh Laurie deserves an Emmy, and this episode may finally get it for him.

      • Al

Eh, this entire season has been rather piecemeal as compared to previous seasons. Even the finale runup doesn’t feel like anything special. :/

      • Alex

@Kara, you’re dellusional. Broken was the best episode of the season because it was about House. The Cuddy centric episode was pretty lame, unless you’re a Cuddy fan the rest of the audience doesn’t care

      • Lizzy

Oh look, the bitter Huddy fans are coming out. Get a life, that’s better for you, @Kara.

      • jessie

i dont understand how anyone can say anything bad about the episode Broken it was so amazing and Hugh Laurie did and incredible job it is without a doubt one of the best episodes of HOUSE this season if not one of the best that has ever aired and if the episode and Hugh dont win that will just be a load of crap because the show and Hugh both deff deserve it!!

    • Sally

Broken was amazing! While I love the first three seasons more than anything (House/Original team is my winnig team) I still think that Broken is the most excellent ep ever!

Was going to say wheres Chuck, but then remembered its not produced by NBC.

Yes. my mind makes everything Chuck related.

Lol! This is what I thought too :D

Hey Ausiello – Not all of us have seen FNL yet. You probably shouldn’t drop spoilers like that. Kind of a major one there IMHO.

    • Mikeh

come on! spoiler alert! nobody has directv

    • Liz

Baby, it says the air date was 12/2/09 That is like SIX months ago. You deserve to be spoiled if you haven’t watched a show by now. It would be like me saying “Oh you spoiled how Buffy the Vampire Slayer ends.” Yea it aired a long time ago

      • Kelly

FNL is a special case, since it only aired on DirectTv 6 months ago, and has only aired episode 1 from this season on NBC and online so far.
That is a big spoiler- you probably want to edit that.

      • mary q contrary

Agreed, Kelly. Liz, Buffy was on network television. Friday Night Lights airs their entire seasons on DirecTV before they move on to a network station. Baby, you need to research your facts a little more.

      • Martybe

What? Buffy ended? I have the seasons on disc, it will never end.

    • Ricky

Matt’s %&$#*’s funeral? Gee thanks Aus-whole. Not all of us get Direct TV. Way to ruin it for 90% of America

      • wakeforce

90% of America doesn;t watch FNL.

Love Love Love Lauren Graham. She’s way overdue for an Emmy.

    • kevin

agreed! I have a feeling (wishful?) Parenthood may be the Emmy darling this year

    • Mark

I initially hated LG because I was a Maura fan but she’s really great. She has the comedic timing down but she does the drama really well too. She’s also really subtle and can bring tears to her eyes in a second. But while she’s great, I don’t see her being nominated.

  • Mel

Would that deadline also be why Community didn’t submit last week’s action movie episode?

    • elena

I hope it was only because of the deadline, because the paintball ep Modern Warfare needed to get an emmy nom. I hope someone from that show gets one. Abed (aka Danny Pudi)? Please?

      • c

I loved the debate episode…I liked it better than the pilot.

      • Ron

I think they should have submitted “Contemporary American Poultry” (the chicken fingers mafia ep.)

      • Johnification

I agree. “Modern Warfare”, “Contemporary American Poultry” or the one with the strip-pool game. The latter episodes are SO much stronger than the pilot.

      • Jake

The chicken fingers Goodfellas episode of Community was stellar

    • Chels725

It was because of the deadline or else it most likely would’ve been in with the pilot.

      • binkybinky

Yeah I think it was because of the deadline – otherwise Contemporary American Poultry and last week’s Modern Warfare would’ve been the ones submitted. Everyone agrees those were the best of the season.
