Breaking: The latest pickup/cancellation buzz is here!

one-tree-hill-life-unexpectedImage Credit: Nigel Perry/The CW; Richard Phibbs/The CWWarning: The following info is purely speculative and should by no means be taken as gospel. We’re heading into upfront week, people, and rumors are flying fast and furious. Here’s what some of the loudest chatter is centered on…

  • The CW is said to be strongly considering renewing both One Tree Hill and Life Unexpected for 12 episodes apiece. Among new shows, the Nikita reboot is a lock, Scott Porter’s Nomads is flirting with a possible midseason order, and ASP’s The Wyoming Project is… generating absolutely no buzz.
  • As NYMag speculated (and Greg Grunberg all but confirmed with his cryptweet), Heroes is likely dead.
  • Barring an eleventh-hour about-face, NBC will be bringing Chuck back for a fourth season. THIS JUST IN: It’s official!
  • Sources close to Law & Order tell me that NBC will likely shoot down Gunsmoke‘s record and renew the mothership for a groundbreaking 21st season. THIS JUST IN: Or maybe not!
  • All signs point to ABC picking up Shonda Rhimes’ doctors-in-paradise medical drama Off the Map, although the boss lady herself just told me she isn’t counting her chickens just yet. “People like it, it [tested] well, but you never know,” she admitted. “I really liked Inside the Box last year and it didn’t get picked up.” THIS JUST IN: ABC picks up three comedies, including the Matthew Perry sitcom Mr. Sunshine.
  • SPOILER ALERT: This doesn’t concern upfronts, but a crazed gunman is making a beeline for Seattle Grace. Click here for details!
  • Industry sources are giving Fox props for yesterday’s pickup of ambitious dramas Ride-Along and Lone Star. “I hope people aren’t missing the significance of a network like Fox pushing ahead with two projects like this,” acknowledged one veteran TV producer. “The fact that Fox is giving both shows a shot is an important thing for quality television.”

Why 12 episodes each of OTH and Life Unexpected but not 13?

    • Colleen

Who cares…as longs as Life Unexpected gets picked up, I will be happy with what they give us!

      • Cat

Agreed — I’ll take what I can get of “Life Unexpected”!

      • jen

yes!!! i’m so *relieved* to hear this news about ‘life unexpected’!

      • Teresa

I just want Life Unexpected to come back. It is a GREAT SHOW!!!! And a GREAT CAST!

      • Mels

YAY for Chuck and Life Unexpected!

    • Dave

Simple, it fits better on a DVD or blu ray.

      • Jenny

Why do you have a picture of CMM on this article if he is not on OTH anymore? Is he coming back or just the first picture you had?

    • Kellie

That’s James Lafferty, who plays Nathan. He’s still on the show…

      • Angie

Yes but Ausiello listened to Kathleen’s comment and changed it :)

I don’t care what anyone says, the original L&O is the best & glad it’ll still be on the tube.
    SVU=much ado bout nothing!!

    • dvelcro

I agree with you Joanne, L&O original is still the best. I think they lost a tiny bit of ground to SVU but that was years ago and SVU is way to depressing for tv today.

      • jen

agreed. i really like stabler and benson, but SVU was giving me nightmares. the original L&O, on the other hand, i can watch all day long.

    • Beverly

I still love the original L&O…and yes, it’s the best one.

    • Alan

Law & Order sucks. Any show can last 21 years if you change the entire cast every couple of seasons and if you just “rip” storylines “from the headlines”. A procedural where every episode is different that gives no insight into the personalities of any of the cast members could last 40 years if it wanted. BTD. It sucks and it’s boring.

      • Alan

        I meant BFD

      • Fatima

I agree. Law and Order’s longevity is not that impressive when you realize that hardly a single thing from the first season remains.

AGREED! I hope it comes back. The show really seems to have its mojo back and I’m really enjoying it this season and last. Long live L & O! Don’t mess with my McCoy!

Yay Chuck! Now, is that a full season, or a 13 episode season? Also, SERIOUSLY with One Tree Hill? Geez. But I’m really happy to hear that LUX is probably coming back – just wish it was for a full season instead of 12 eps.

    • lorna

Happy about LUX but OTH should just go away. Used to be a diehard fan. Still hurting over MP, but I didn’t expect a pickup. IT’s much better than 90210 an OTH [these past 2 seasons sucked].

      • alison

i am really glad that one tree hill is back i am so happy i cant wait to watch it and i dont think haley should die that would be really dumb and make the show boring.

Can someone tell all those shows that use coffee cups as props to please stop it. They’re empty & we know it.

    • Doug

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh my gosh, I’ve been thinking that since Gilmore Girls.

      • JJ

LOL I was just thinking that last night watching Criminal minds! Glad I am not alone in noticing the ridiculousness of the empty coffee cup prop :)

      • dcmom

This always bugged me on GG too. (And lots of other shows!)

    • Kellie

I was an extra on OTH last season and had to deliver a coffee cup to Mouth and it was very much full of real hot coffee….however, I am sure there are times when they are empty. I am just speaking of my one experience!

      • Molly

That coffee remark reminded me of an NCIS episode when Tony says to McGee, notice how the boss is always drinking coffee, but never has to pee. I think it was McGee.

Why the CMM face??? Hope he isn’t coming back, because this would be a reason not to renew OTH. :p
No seriously, he’s gone for a year. And you even reported about it Michael. You should have taken someone else up there in this photo. Just to not confuse anyone these days. ;)
