'24' exclusive: Cherry Jones talks about 'losing her marbles' as president

In anticipation of the 24 finale, EW talked exclusively to the Emmy-winning Cherry Jones about President Allison Taylor’s trippy story arc this year (like how she’s Read the full post.

    Cherry Jones started out in life as a Tennessee State and U.S.National debate champion. Despite what she says she could easily end up deeply immersed in real-world politics.

    Hurray for Cherry Jones! Raspberries to Howard Gordon, Joel Surnow and the rest of the perfidious FOX’ers.

    The closing minute of 24′s Episode 21 was porno-violence. How could the FCC permit it on ‘broadcast’ TV?

    Seasons 1 & 2 of 24 were some of the best seasons of television ever.
    From season 3 onward, (for better or worse…mainly worse) the show has always been more about the shocking twists and huge moments.
    That’s sort of been 24′s MO for a while now, and I can’t really understand why people are so upset with all the crazy twists that have happened this year.
    Other than Season 6, *that* was just bad storytelling, 24 has been one of the most fun and exciting shows on TV. Logic, continuity, and, to quote Cherry Jones, drama-rama, have taken a back seat to entertainment, and that’s okay as far as I’m concerned.
    Enjoy 24 for what it is.

    I agree that “24″ is all about the ride. If you get hung up on continuity and credibility, you’re missing the point. The notion that anybody can get anywhere in New York City in ten minutes is absurd. The actors only have to make it credible one scene at a time to keep us hanging on, and Cherry Jones has been terrific at that. Here’s a vote for Logan as the most watchable villain in the show’s history. Every glance, every tilt of the head, every diabolical expression is the best villainy on television since Nixon’s farewell speech.

    Like most everyone else I will have a big ’24′ hole in my list of TV shows i like to watch. Jack Bauer has been the BEST, most {perpetually}INTENSE & if not the best written {see character flaw details above} he was always well scripted. {Pavel tells Jack to ‘Go to Hell!’ Jack reply’s ‘You 1st!’}
    Just to clarify Rene did not die for nothing, she gave Jack his motive for stealing the Helicopter, chasing down Dana Walsh {& er executing her point blank – she deserved this 4 her own trail of dead bodies} taking out Pavel & his hit squad, the assault on Charles Logan & the trail of dead bodies at the Russian embassy. Of course Jack still has 2 hours to go before we bid farewell until 2012? when the 24 movie premieres! I do not normally go to movie theaters but will make an exception for the great Jack Bauer as my way of saying thanks for the last 9years of leaving me on the edge of my seat! Jack has a history of not ending his days well but no one {apart from the writers!} would begrudge him a HAPPY ending! {Entire administration gets wiped out leaving recently retired Ethan to declare Jack Bauer as PRESIDENT!}

    Let’s Remake Season 8! The writers should have taken the unresolved questions from Season 7 and gone into Season 8 working on those loose ends.
    • Renee should have stayed “good” as Agent Freckles: so that when Renee & Jack finally got it together, it would have meant something.
    • *Season 7 unfolded several layers of Threats and BadGuys, which was a better formula than Season 8: Dana’s subplot consumed about 4 episodes and there was no payoff for that at all;the KEVIN subplot led nowhere and had nothing at all to do with the last 5 episodes.
    **They could have used Cherry Jones with much greater effect in the early episodes: if Prez Taylor is forced to talk on the phone, she should have at least pulled it out of the wall and sent it crashing through a window – (reference to Jack Nicholson in the movie ‘Hoffa’ — that is what he did when he got bad news over the phone.)
