Breaking: NBC cancels 'Law & Order'?

Now this is what I call a Law & Order twist: NBC is declining to comment on a Deadline report claiming the network has opted Read the full post.

this has got to be the most moronic mistake in the long, sad history of moronic NBC mistakes. wow. i cannot believe you would even consider canceling this show in order to make room for more Biggest Loser crap. NBC, just change your name to Biggest Loser Network and get it over with. “Biggest Loser Network” even has a nice double meaning.

I enjoyed it back when Jack McCoy was arguing cases. I could never get used to the new guy. I liked Jack as Prosecutor & Fred as his boss. I also like SVU.

I can’t believe that NBC, is not going to have Law and Order on inthe fall, as far as I am concerned NBC,is making a BIG MISTAKE, I have been a fan of L&O since day 1 and I hope some other network will pick it up.

Neither do I. This season has been surprisingly fresh. I was hoping for more.

20 years is a long time for a show to be, people. Relax. It’s time for L&O to finally be put to bed. The entire cast has completely changed about 20 times, it’s so lazy that it “rips” stories “from the headlines”, and there are about 15 other crime procedurals on the air for you to choose from. Thank god and good riddance.

  • Paloma

I think it is time for L&O to go. There is a reason why the ratings are what they are and that is because many of us have had enough of this show. 20 years is an amazing run, but it is time. And it will be in rerun forever. But I’m so done with this show. And not looking forward to another spin off. Whatever happened to new ORIGINAL programming. I’m tired, too, of spin-offs, particularly ones that aren’t that different from the original.

  • stacymac

AS DO I….Seriously, Law & Order is like one of the few shows that’s usually got a fresh story to tell every week. So sometimes they do take things from headlines, but they make it even more interesting when they interpret it fictitiously. We see how the detectives and attorneys do everything to help put the bad guys away. The show works because there’s no drama amongst the characters or there are no “personal issues or relationships” going on. Although, they seem to have focused a lot on Van Buren’s “personal” fight against cancer. Yes, it is a very serious issue, but the show’s focus is on cases itself. Hence, the title “Law” and “Order”, that’s the way I’ve always remembered it to be and that’s the way it should stay. There are a lot of stories to tell and it goes to show why it works! So—why cancel it? Ratings can’t be bad, can they? What is going on at NBC??? O.o

  • Dav

Judging by these comments I’d say quite a few people watched it and still watch it today. If you don’t like it Annette that’s your opinion and I respect it but don’t tell fans to “get over it”. We enjoy it and will be heartbroken if it doesn’t beat the record.

  • Maggie

L&O has always used stories “ripped from the headlines.” And they began changing cast members after the 1st season. Those are trademarks of the show for 20 years, and not signs of being lazy.

  • Vikki Sixx

And the rest of those crime procedurals suck. L&O deserves at least one more season to be the longest running primetime drama! I will seriously be heartbroken if it ends. It’s been the best season in years!

  • star collector

L&O has run it’s course. For fresh Law and Orders, switch to USA on Tuesday nights at 10:00 and catch Jeff Goldblum on CI. This is a great show. I wasn’t sure how it would go after D’nofrio’s & Erbe’s departure, but Jeff is definitely watchable.

  • Vikki Sixx

I can’t get into CI without Goren. I tried but, as great an actor as Goldblum is, he is a poor man’s Goren.

  • Donna

Have to say Criminal Intent is by far the best, Jeff Goldblum is hypnotic. SVU is incredibly lame – the Hilary Duff episode proved that. As for the original – Linus Roache is an excellent actor and I like the Cutter character along with Lupo BUT everyone else is meh. And Van Buren was AWFUL – her cacner storyline was out of place and annoying – an episode would be moving along and then slow to a screeching halt when she would answer a doctor’s call or when she ate her sandwhich after chemo – it looked a desperate attempt to get the actress another emmy

  • SFDA

Then again what do you expect from the morons remaking a classic like “The Rockford Files”?

  • TK

@Donna, I don’t agree. I stopped watching Crimnal Intent when the two orginal stars left last season/start ofthis season. Jeff is a fine actor and he does a fine job but he was and is not the reason I watched CI, so in all I am done with all of the L & O.

  • Erik

    @Nicotine

I think the problem with this season is that it was basically held hostage by the Jay Leno/Conan debacle. I honestly can’t tell you what night new episodes are supposed to air. I thought it was Friday, but now I see episodes on Mondays. Leno monopolizing NBC’s once-profitable 10pm slot was a mistake, and it’s unfortunate that Law & Order is potentially suffering because of it.

  • Ty

I agree I’m loving CI with Jeff Goldblum. I can’t watch SVU anymore I used to watch it everynight before bed and then I started having terrible nightmares. As for the original it’s ok if they decide to cancel it I just wish that TNT would play newer episodes because I never see it when it actually airs on NBC I don’t even know what it’s timeslot is. I actually kinda wish they would just do an all L&O channel. that way whenever I’m bored and can’t find a show I could always have an l&o option.

  • Ernst B

@ donna…What? law and Order SVU is the best show on tv period..that why it is gonna get picked up with no problem! As for criminal intent the paste of that show is incredibly boring until the end. one bad episode does not define the whole show. Criminal intent has probably 4out 14 episodes that are good(at best). Thank GOD for SVU.

  • PHD

    nbc cannot be this dumb…

    right?

  • Jeri Dexheimer

There is no one like Bobby, no one!

  • auramac

I know! They wait and make sure you’re addicted- then, YANK!

  • Desmo

Seriously no one has any right to complain, so many quality shows never make it past their first season let alone 20.

  • shelby

    LOL! Amazing.

  • Doug-H

Obviously Dee you don’t really watch CI since you can’t even get the name of the former female detective right.. (Eames) I agree that L&O has been strong but stupid NBC has it buried on Monday nights in the old Leno spot against Castle ( a hot new show) and old warhorse CSI-Miami… so I would guess it finishes 3rd…. Not sure where it works better… It probably will bite the dust… I record it every Monday after I watch Castle live…

  • Dee

Yes, Doug I knew I spelled it wrong, but figured you and everyone else would know who I was talking about.
Watch Out!! Spelling police on board.

  • stacymac

HUH??? My post below ended up in the wrong spot?! Was supposed to be up by Nora and Nicotine —in agreement to NOT CANCEL LAW & ORDER. And not replying to Paloma —just saying

  • because obviously an entertainment weekly message board is representative of viewership as a whole. right.
