Breaking: CBS set to pick up another sitcom from 'Two and A Half Men' creator

Nothing’s official yet, but it looks like CBS is oh-so-close to ordering a third comedy from Chuck Lorre, the uber-producr behind the network’s hit shows Two and A Half Men and The Big Bang Theory. The multi-camera sitcom is called Mike and Molly, a romantic tale about an overweight police officer named Mike (My Name is Earl’s Billy Gardell), and a pleasantly plump gal named Molly (Gilmore Girls’ Melissa McCarthy) who meet at Overeaters Anonymous. A pickup announcement is expected as early as today (May 14).

CBS will announce its fall lineup next week in New York. Mike and Molly is also executive produced by Mark Roberts (Two and a Half Men) and directed by James Burrows. It also stars Katy Mixon (Eastbound & Down) and Swoosie Kurtz (Pushing Daisies).

Great. More mindless, unfunny crap from that hack Chuck Lorre. CBS sucks.

    • Moe

You spelled producer “producr”. Don’t you have a spell check, for god’s sake get your act together.

    • oderal

Dave, you television habits are mindless

  • Kevin

LOL Dave- I agree. I have never thought any of Chuck Lorre sitcoms were ever funny. Total bore.

  • Jacob

LOVE Big Bang Theory. HATE Two and a Half Men.

    • Jacob

Agreed, at our house the Two and a half thing is used for peeing, bathing, dishes, etc, to get to the better show.

    • Jean

I agree with you. Big Bang Theory has actual talented actors & plots that aren’t centered around farting, screwing and hatred of mom’s. Ugggh..

  • jeff

2 1/2 men- bad sex jokes UGH NO
Big Bang Theory – Nerd Culture jokes somewhat funny
Mike and Molly – probably fat/sex jokes UGH NO

  • Brad

If it has melissa mccarthy it’s going to be hilarious!

    • KL

Agree! Melissa McCarthy is super talented… fantastic in Gilmore Girls, great in Samantha Who. Can’t wait for this!

If that’s Sookie, then, it’s a hit! (To me.) She’s so funny, whatever weight she is, and hairstyle, Sookie!!!! She’s always beautiful and funny and gorgeous! Although I like her best with 2 ponys in the kitchen on the Gilmores, but either way, she’s fab! And with James Burrows on board, awesome, but Kurtz? No thanks there. So many great actresses, but again with her? And how about an unknown older actress for a change? Seems like the sitcoms just keep recycling the parents, I can’t keep track of who is a mom of what show at this point!

  • Jan

Love, love, love Melissa McCarthy! This will be on my list for the Fall!

  • Grace

Don’t these people ever sleep? Or maybe they just develop projects and then hand them off to another team? I don’t buy that they’re fully involved in all shows. (Similar to JJ Abrams.)

Still, it could be good. Big Bang Theory is funny, and Two and a Half men is NOT. Two and a half men is like the bad residue of 90s sitcoms, all obvious jokes and no character development.

  • Kim from Texas

I love both comedies, and I am very excited to see this news. Is this a replacement for “Two and a Half Men”?

  • Tee

I love Melissa McCarthy but this plot sounds rather blah.

  • gigi

Hmmmm…I wanna love this show because of Chuck Lorre and James Burrows. But do I want to sit through 22 minutes of fat jokes, Little Debbie references, and the mom (taking a guess at Swoosie Kurtz in a mom role) telling the daughter she’d be prettier if she just lost 30lbs? I don’t know. We’ll see.

  • Dan

Does anyone else find it odd that this show is already being reviewed in the comments? How ’bout we wait till it’s actually–hm, what’s the word–aired?

  • Carmen

Looks like its time for someone to attempt to recycle Roseanne.

  • sam

Hmmm…a show about heavier people. I applaud CBS and this is a good thing, but I wonder how long it will take before people start to bash this show.

    • Dom

It’s already getting bashed in these comments!

  • Cat

I’m all for it! love her!!
