Image Credit: Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage.comTBS announced today that it has ordered eight episodes of Glory Daze, an ’80s college comedy about a group of friends pledging a fraternity in Wisconsin. The dramedy, which is slated to premiere on the comedy cabler in late 2010, stars Saturday Night Live vet Tim Meadows and is from Walt Becker (Wild Hogs) and Michael LeSieur (You, Me and Dupree). It’s unclear whether the show will serve as a lead-in to Conan O’Brien’s late night show, which will debut in November.
TBS/TNT (which, like EW, are owned by Time Warner) will announce their 2010/11 slates next week in New York.
“Glory Daze is a sharply written, laugh-out-loud comedy with a talented ensemble cast, including comic veteran Tim Meadows,” according to a statement from Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming, for TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies. “The time is right for this feel-good, funny, and fresh take on college life in the ‘80s.”
TBS developed four dramedy pilots for its 2010 prime time slate but just relinquished one to sister drama net, TNT: Franklin and Bash, which follows two streetwise lawyers (Breckin Meyer and Mark-Paul Gosselaar) who join a high-powered law firm. The network passed on the other two – Uncle Nigel, a Gary Cole starrer about a Philly police detective and In Security, about a sibling-owned private-security firm that stars Superman Returns’ Brandon Routh.
It’s rare for a cable net — which doesn’t adhere to the traditional development season practiced by the broadcast networks — to develop so many pilots and not pick them all up. There’s some industry speculation that TBS scaled back its development because of the hefty investment it made in O’Brien. Then again, the pilots may not have passed muster.

They already made a show just like this called “That 80′s Show” and it was awful…
Yeah, they have also made about 3000 cop shows…were they all awful because one was?
Good point though :/
I love Tim Meadows, but I really hope he isn’t going to be one of the college students.
Something tells me he’ll be the Mr. Belding of the 3 or 4 episodes that actually make it to air.
Wasn’t Tim Meadows already on that TBS show with Bill Engvall?
Well it is good to show the days before obligitory cell phones, computers, and internet College days. Also actaully reading a printed book, writing, and waiting for phones to ring.
Well, the show I really wanted to see is In Security with Brandon Routh.. that sounded very cool. The other shows sound boring. Meh
As a college student of the 80′s and an educator these days, I realize that students are losing some of their social skills due to IM, Facebook, Texting, etc. I hope this will attract a younger audience that can maybe learn something about face to face time and meeting new people.
Will this interfere with his duties on Saturday Night Live?
(those who get the joke know what I mean)
I’m very disappointed they didn’t pick up Uncle Nigel. I filmed the pilot episode and was hoping they would bring me back to do future episodes. To bad it was actually a good show.
Sounds like a great show. Who is going to play the college students?
They were filming on the UCLA campus yesterday. The 80s fashions on all the characters made me glad those styles died! I wonder if they’ll stay there or use other locations.
oh wow! i got really excited when i saw the setting of glory daze! the arches of royce hall and on bruin walk too! there are some sources that say they filmed at the ambassador college in pasadena, ca also, so maybe they’re combining locations. how cool is that to see familiar places?
And it also stars the fantastic Bridger Zadina.
Haha it filming at my school and of all irony I’m in drama class and I’m watching it from our window
The bulk of their filming looks like it’s at Maranatha High School in Pasadena, a private Christian prep school. You can walk through the school after filming hours and see a lot of the set, I took some pics.
Finally a show on tv that has young cute guys in their underwear. This is such a refreshing change from the normal which is mostly females or overweight or older or all hairy or all of the above guys in their underwear. We need more shows that show off the bods of young hot guys more often.
The show is actually based around College students at Indiana University, as so the beginning of the commercial says
