Breaking: Latest renewal/cancellation scoop

UPDATE: Here’s NBC’s new fall schedule!

The wait is almost over: Upfront week officially kicks off in a few hours with the announcement of NBC’s new fall schedule (the network unveils the sked to advertisers tomorrow morning). In the meantime, here’s a quick rundown of the latest pickup/cancellation buzz…

    * CBS has all but axed Cold Case, Miami Medical, and Numb3rs. Ghost Whisperer and Medium, meanwhile, are expected back. A CBS rep declined to comment.
    * NBC has dropped Fran Kranz and Ian Reed Kesler from the cast of its new half-hour sitcom Friends With Benefits. Both roles will be recast.
    * As EW’s Lynette Rice reported, NBC has picked up School Pride, a new reality series from Cheryl Hines that’s essentially Extreme Makeover: Home Edition for public schools.
    * As scooped by Deadline, CBS is on the verge of picking up the Twitter-inspired comedy Bleep My Dad Says, but without Ryan Devlin in the lead role.
    * I’ll be spending some quality time with a few dozen of your favorite NBC stars tomorrow morning (complete list below), so send me your burning questions ASAP to ausielloscoop@ew.com. All I ask is that you put “NBC upfront Q” in the subject line.

Tell Tina that I use the made up swear word “fark”. She can use it on 30 Rock. :)

    • Bob Dob

Yeah, I’m sure the folks at fark.com will love that.

      • nices

yeah , Glad to hear that Ghost Whisperer is expected back!just hope i can date a nice person via 10yeargap~.~com this night….sweety life !

    • Missmiggles

I’ve been using “fark” in lieu of the other pretty word since high school … sooooo 20 years now …

      • Chaz Winterbottom

        No farking way!

    • tomm

The 1978 version of ‘Battlestar Gallactica’ used the word ‘frak’.

I think that is fark’s inspiration.

      • Holly

They also used it in the recent reincarnation of BSG, so you don’t have to go back to 78 to find it.

If NBC doesn’t pick up Rex Is Not Your Lawyer, I will be a sad panda.

It’s dead. No pick up. They went with the Conaco lawyer show instead.

    • chris

We are indeed sad, but the lovely David Tennant shall be a movie star without the help of the ridiculous members at NBC. Hoping Decoy Bride is a huge international hit and whoever passed up his enormous talent for the likes of yet another L&O spinoff loses their post.

Why is CBS waiting so long to ‘officially’ cancel Numb3rs?? David Krumholz and Rob Morrow already have new gigs, and have had for months.
    Idiots!

    • Barb

Yeah, that’s a little weird. Maybe they think that the show ‘ended’ so they don’t have to formally cancel it? I really enjoyed that show, but I’ve accepted its fate, and I think everyone else has too. Corporate typo?

    • Dan

Actually, Fox passed on Krumholtz’s new show Tax Man, so as far as I know he’s got nothing lined up. And Morrow’s new show “The Whole Truth” is in second position to Numb3rs, should CBS decide to renew it.

Honestly, I hope they make the eleventh hour decision to bring it back, because I love the show, and it gets decent ratings.

Check your facts, gia, and please check your gloating as well. Many people enjoy this show and hope it returns.

Numbers does not get decent ratings. It is one of the worst performers on the CBS schedule. It’s DEAD, ha!

Me too! There’s so many unanswered questions about Melinda & Aiden and what Melinda & Jim are going to do with him.

My TV watching failed this year. Miami Medical and Legend of the Seeker are canceled. The only show ending that I’m glad about is Lost. Good grief, this was not the year to pick up shows, and I totally did.

    • Jerry

What does Lost have to do with anything? It’s not like it was canceled. The writers chose to end the show this season on their own.

I really like Miami Medical, I get so irritated that they don’t give the shows a chance.

      • Kerry

I agree! What else are they going to put on at 10 o’clock on a Friday that could do any better? Just give it a chance! I really like this show. Such a bummer!

What’s going on with Caprica? Will NBC announce the pickup/cancellation tomorrow?

    • Johnification

Caprica’s technically on one of those midyear long cable breaks; it should be back for the second half of its first season in like October or something. Not a great way to build viewership, I think.

      • Alexandria

Seconded. For a show that’s already kind of iffy (from what I hear, it did okay, but not great) I think it’s a bad idea. I’ve unintentionally missed parts of or entire season-point-fives because if you don’t watch that network outside of your hiatused show, you miss all the adverts about when it’s coming back! Just look at how many shows got killed by the strike for an extreme example.

Not “Cold Case”! I love that show on Sundays!

    • jodipo

do you love it on Monday too? Tuesday?

      • C

I just had a good laugh at what you said. Thanks for making me smile on a Sunday!

    • Yve

      It’s the best show ever!!!

      • Ruby

Best show and great cast. gonna miss it very much.
