Breaking: Latest 'upfront' headlines (including scoop on 'Brothers & Sisters')

Upfront week is officially underway and my head is spinning from all the scoopage. Here’s the latest:

* ABC is nearing a deal to bring Brothers & Sisters back for an abbreviated 18-episode fifth season, sources confirm.

* Trailers for all of NBC’s new shows can be found here.

* CBS’ remake of Hawaii 5-0 has been officially picked up.

* The fate of CBS’ bubble shows will be decided tomorrow. Ghost Whisperer, Medium are locks, Gary Unmarried and Accidentally On Purpose are looking iffy, and Cold Case, Numb3rs, and Miami Medical are all but dead.

* Fox’s new fall sked (including analysis from Lynette Rice) can be found here.

* Lauren Graham looked predictably radiant on NBC’s upfront red carpet earlier this AM. Video coming soon.

* Glee is getting Super-sized next season!

I thought B&S was doing well?

    • hannah

It is doing okay, but the ratings have slipped. The network probably expects to lose more ratings after rob Lowe leaves. If the show does well next season without Lowe, then they may pick it up for a sixth season and increase the number of shows. Earlier this year, I was worried the show would be canceled, so just losing a few episodes is a relief to me.

Why is Brother and Sisters going to be shorter? Is it doing badly in the ratings? Does this mean there’s not going to be a sixth season?

Also, what is this about Glee? I scanned the other article and I couldn’t find anything on it.

They are airing an episode of Glee after the Super Bowl — that is the super sized reference.

    • Monty

They are the after superbowl tv show.

Usually actors get raise for every season the show is on air. This means that each new season will cost more and this is why for example Simpsons cast gets paid more for voiceovers than some of the big names in newer TV shows.

I wonder why they are reducing the amount of episodes for Brothers & Sisters. It’s still performing well for the network.

    • ger

I’m guessing the large cast makes it expensive, especially after 5 years.

    • Michael

It’s dropped off quite a bit in the 18-49, but that also might have to do with the major drop of in the same demo for Desperate Housewives.

    • TV Gord

Maybe it’s because Calista asked for a lighter workload and they still want to have her in every episode.

I am sad about Cold Case, it was a great show that often had to deal with CBS’s pushing their Sunday shows airing back because of sports. I really wish they would at least give us a final show so we could say goodbye to the characters.

    • Irwin

Ditto about Cold Case. A great show, a lot better than those crummy CSI shows!

      • Loz

I have to disagree with you on that for at least one CSI. I’m an Avid fan of CSINY but I will agree with you on Miami

    • Yve

Oh this show is brilliant… I nearly cried at the end of every episode :(

What about The New Adventures of Old Christine?!?!

    • graeme

Yeah, where’s the Old Christine info?

    • TV Gord

I think if it’s not mentioned, that means it’s okay. Anyway, ABC has said they want it if CBS doesn’t, according to Julia Louis Dreyfus’ conversation with Ellen last week.

Yeah, where’s the Old Christine info?

Yay Medium! First I’ve read that it’s a “lock.” Great news.

The “Undercovers” trailer definitely has potential. Thanks for posting it!

I wouldn’t be upset if the B&S deal fell through. I decided to kill it from my DVR lineup next year. So tired of Sally Fields whining…

    • Danielle

LOL!! You decide you don’t like the show and remove it from your DVR, thereby ABC is going to cancel it?? Seriously??

      • Alexis

She didn’t say she wouldn’t be surprised…she said she didn’t care because she already deleted it.
