Breaking: CBS picks up 'Criminal Minds' spin-off

It’s official: CBS’ Criminal Minds spin-off has been greenlit for fall. The procedural, starring Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker, joins fellow Eye pickups Hawaii 5-0, Defenders, Blue Bloods, and Mike and Molly. Viewers were introduced to Whitaker’s BAU agent in an episode of Minds that aired last month.

Sweeeeet. Can’t wait for it. Glad there’s at least one network around that can do something right.

Can’t agree with that statement. They just rehash the same shows over and over again for old audiences. I have a new slogan for CBS.

CBS: It’s the channel your mom watches!

And your “MOMS” are the one with the money and time to buy the products that keep them on the air!!

I hope they make Kevin Lynch (Nicholas Brendon), Garcia’s BF the computer tech

    • Alia

Seems sorta unlikely, given Brendon’s legal troubles off-camera. I do like that character, though!

    • Dav

Reeeeeeealy unlikely since the new team already has a computer tech. Plus, I like him with Garcia so I wouldn’t want him moving away from her anyway.

      • bklynny

Kevin should stay. I like him and Garcia. They are a cute couple.

Yikes. The CM spinoff backdoor pilot was atrocious.

    • Dan

Agreed. Whitaker and the British sniper were the only ones I thought were decent. And I was really disappointed by Beau Garrett, as I was expecting her to be outstanding after she shined as the patient-of-the-week in a recent episode of House on Fox.

If by ‘right’ you mean copy existing shows in the to the ground…welcome to CBS.

Anyway, I thought the Whitaker character was terrible and unless they recast the rest of the team the show will not last.

Would it kill someone at CBS to come up with something original?

    • Ryan

CBS: Like what we got? Here’s more of the same!!

Originality? Get outta here, we’re CBS! The 2 And A Half Men channel!

    • Will

At least they don’t axe a show that’s been on for 20 years like NBC…

      • Tim

Actually if your show has been on for 20 years it SHOULD get axed. You’ve outstayed your welcome by that point.

      • Will

Hm. Well apparently not if a lot of people still want the show to be around. And it has potential to stay still even though NBC axed it. Most shows statistically don’t last past ten years.

They know what keeps their key demographic coming back.

  • Bonisagus

At least if it did there’d plenty of peopel around to figure out what killed them!

    • Rua

Absolutely Brilliant Comment. Thank you for making me laugh.

    • Fisher

HA!! Now that was funny. Love it!

Does it have an official title yet?

I wasn’t crazy about Whitaker’s character either, but I think it’s got potential. I’m curious to see how they separate this from the original CM.

    • Elizabeth

Last time I heard, it was “Minds 2.0,” but I’ve been referring to it as “complete waste of DVR space.”

      • Geko

Actually, that can’t be the title as I would never allow it on my DVR in the first place. I was thinking more along the lines of “Unimaginative dreck”
