'House' exclusive: Huddy fans -- your time has come!

Tags: , , News, Scoop

SPOILER ALERT: If you have yet to watch tonight’s House finale, stop reading now. I repeat, if you have yet to watch tonight’s House finale, stop reading now. For the last time, if you have yet to watch tonight’s House finale, stop reading now. Everyone else, onward and downward…

Fi. Na. Lly. House went there. When last night’s season finale ended in a Huddy liplock — a real one this time, it bears mentioning! — it seemed as though Dr. Crankypants and Cuddy at last were going to give a relationship the ol’ college try. But looks, as we’ve learned the hard way, can be deceiving. Is the Fox hit just messing with our emotions again? To find out, I rang up exec producer Katie Jacobs, who wasn’t just forthcoming with the scoop, she was pretty free with the kinda scoop that’s all but guaranteed to blow your mind.

That was one hell of a final scene. What should we take away from it?
KATIE JACOBS:
This is real and something that they are going to try. It’s something they stayed away from for a long period of time because it’s dangerous and the consequences could be severe. But now they’re going to give it a try.

They’re going to make a go of a relationship?
JACOBS:
Absolutely. Yes.

What are we led to believe happened after the screen faded to black?
JACOBS:
That’s exactly the conversation we had. Does the audience want us to pick up two or three months later? Or is the audience interested in us [picking up right where we left off]? And it’s really dependent on the narrative. Last year when House checked himself into the psychiatric hospital, I felt like it wouldn’t be good enough for the audience just to see him come out the other end and [return] to Princeton Plainsboro. Even though they knew he would [eventually] return there, I wanted everybody to see the moment after.

So which scenario will you choose this time around?
JACOBS:
Put it this way… I’m certainly in the camp of not wanting to miss much after the fade to black. Because the truth is the challenges that are ahead for them are the things that kept them apart to begin with. It’s not chemistry or the spark. It’s “How are we going to deal with this? We’re going to be together. What does that look like?” Cuddy is his superior at the hospital. And she’s a mother. Those are the kind of things we’re going to have fun with.

I could be wrong but I think Huddy fans want to see a real, non-hallucinatory sex scene.
JACOBS:
I get it. We’re in the process of figuring all that out right now, so I don’t have an answer. But this isn’t just about the [season premiere]. This isn’t something that will work or fail in just one episode. We’re going to attempt to make a true exploration of this relationship.

Were you on set when that last scene was shot?
JACOBS:
Yes. It was amazing. Our prop guy, Eddie, had tears in his eyes. You never know how people are going to react to the story, but seeing Eddie with tears in his eyes and happy with the fact that House and Cuddy were finally going to give it a try was very satisfying.

I screamed…SO loud, I think my entire dorm building heard me. It’s sad that a television show made me happier than I’ve been in weeks, but House writers; you did it. I am really looking forward to watching this play out, and seeing the ups and downs and the struggle that is Huddy unfold. I’m not looking for some flowery, happy-go-lucky relationship, because that isn’t House. I’m looking for real-life, drama-driven, angst-ridden fight for this to work relationship.
& I know you will deliver. Thank you for another amazing season. See you this fall :)

    • Cheery

Same here! My family thinks I’m crazy–but I was so psyched I couldn’t help it! And ITA agree, I don’t expect the relationship to be all sunshine and rainbows but it deserves exploration, wherever that leads. I’m SO HAPPY the producers are finally going there! *does the happy dance* :P

      • koker

I hate that House is turning into a this much of a soap opera. And this episode does not deserve to be considered for the “apple pie” award let alone an emmy.

congratz , you managed to write something authentically screwed up. And then you went and messed it up with the last two seasons of horny fans who live/lust with/after their moms who Cuddy personifies perfectly

      • Julia

This has made my year! A friend asked me, now that the season is over what will I obsess about over the summer. lol

      • onyx

My mom HATES HOUSE and i’m completely obsessed with it so I know the feeling; All summer it’s re-runs for me :)

    • JenR

I thought the same thing, “Is it wrong that a TV show just made me this happy?” Haha! I knew Cuddy was thinking about it when he made his terrific speech to Hannah, but I thought she’d just call off the wedding and we’d have to wait longer. That last scene was so good.

    • JC

The ending was okay, but I like the formulaic-ness of House – yes the show is about him, but I also like seeing the team and we barely got to see them this week OR last week

      • Z

it’s the season finale.. if a formula show can’t even deviate then, then you know the show has completely stagnated

    • adamfan

Did we not see the same show? I think that he took the pills, she was not there at all and that she died in the collapse. The last shot of the accident scene was of his cane, after he go into the ambulance she probably went to get it and it collapsed on her, or something happened to both of them. He left his bike at the scene, how did he get back home from the hospital. We know that one of the actors is leaving and I feel that they are only teasing us with 13. I think that Cuddy is dead.

      • James

Nice try, adamfan, but go back and read the interview. Everything we saw in that final scene happened. No hallucinations this time.

      • Ashton

well clearly we did not see the same show.

      • nitemar

You missed a great season finale.. dont know why some people keep watching since all they think was House with Wilson or with Cameron…

      • one comment

If it was not all a hallucination then they are certainly playing with us. I could have sworn he left the cane at the scene and then magically had it again later. Maybe Jacobs erred when she gave it away in the interview. I thought the whole idea of this episode was to keep us guessing til next season.

      • Huh?

@adamfan, I think you may be the one who is hallucinating.

      • adamfan

ok, so the show is just lame. If we are to believe that in the short time that House was at the hospital, Cuddy left the accident site (there were not other people there to care for?), showered but remained in the scrubs that she wore and oh yes, broke up with a guy who just a day before proposed to her and after breaking up with him there was no discussion it all happened very fast. There has to be a reason for the shot that they showed of his cane left at the accident site. And do you all think that the show executive is really going to give it all to us? This show has never been predictable with this type of stuff. We were told a month or so ago that a major character is leaving the show, we know that it is not 13 (temporary). Don’t agree with me now, but I have a feeling it will not be a cute love story of House and Cuddy come next September.

      • Kelly

The reason he left the cane at the accident site was because he felt good about what he did and he wasn’t feeling any pain.

    • Emerald

I AGREE. Over the many seasons, I have fallen in love with House myself, he is such a misunderstood person. Wilson and Cuddy understand him the best, and Cuddy is a great match. She is sexy, strong, smart, and can go toe to toe with him. When House described himself as “broken” in that final scene, tears welled in my eyes. When they kissed, it was great, and then when the camera panned in on their clasped hands, it symbolized so much. It wasn’t about sex/lust at that moment, it is a new direction for them. I went to bed dreaming about that episode! So good. And I agree with the comments, this can’t be a perfect relationship, but it can be a perfect House relationship. House needs and deserves this. This relationship really can last…it will be fun to see Huddy spar as lovers. Seriously will be funny. I love this show so much!!

      • SisterZip

It might be the perfect House relationship, but is it going to be good for Cuddy? Ultimately it may be her undoing. We see House trying to go back to his old ways and (due to Mr. Laurie’s acting skills) realizing, with just a looke in his eyes, that it can’t be that way anymore. That he may not ever be the doctor he once was. But, right now, in this moment, he is willing to let that happen for a try at happiness.

      • TMB

Cue the shark, motorcycle and driver!

      • PatrickKelley

        TMB-

        I’m afraid you’re absolutely right.

      • ER DOC

He’s a misunderstood person? I realize from the comments that most of you are teenagers who still live at home or in a dorm, but in the REAL world many people exist who are as narcissitic at House. Ask anyone who has to work with thoracic or neurosurgeons…or most of us ER docs.
There will be no fairy tale ending but it will be interesting if they can actually act as adults in a relationship. But since both characters are completly and probably terminally flawed, it won’t be smooth sailing. I think she is even more bizarre than House. NO professional woman wears the tight skirts and blouses that reveal bras AND breasts in the real world of medicine. Geesh! Put a lab coat on!

    • ingrid

AGREE AGREE AGREE THIS SHOW IS SO AWESOME. I KNOW ITS ONLY MAY BUT SOME REASON THIS FALL DOES NOT SEEM A LONG WAY TO GO. SO HAPPY!!!

      • nitemar

I have faith in the writers of the show, and the great actors..who could have imagined they were going to give us such a great finale..keep the faith!

    • SISTER

WONDERFUL !!!!! BEST SHOW AND CAST ON TV RIGHT NOW !!!!

    • AR Fan

Like you and a million others, I
was thrilled yet uncertain if this was real. Now I am looking forward to next season.

  • Eleanor

    Yay!!!!! Finally Huddy happens!

    • Liz

      F I N A L L Y !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Shine

It’s about time! We waited for 100 years! Ahhhhh!

  • nitemar

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!<3<3<3<3<3<3 for best Huddy scene ever!!

  • Luisa

I’m just so happy. The House finale couldn’t have been better.

The whole episode was awesome, with strong performances and an emotional undercurrent that just grabbed you and never let you go.

Hugh Laurie and Lisa Edelstein gave “tour the force” performances. Just THE BEST. And this coming from two strong actors who in this season alone gave more than their share of amazing and emotional performances.

Hey Eddie: I cried too man! And I cried hard. I actually stood up and applauded the show playing on my TV set.

THE BEST!!! Season 7 won’t come soon enough for this very happy camper.

    • elizabetta

Eddie is the man! You cry anytime you want… Eddie gets it!

      Finally, Huddy will get it!

      Tears of joy!! Right on!

    • mkmac

Only disappointment was I thought he should have said “I Love You” back. Would have been a BIG step for House.

      • I AM HUDDY OBSESSED!

no they are going to save that for a chuck bass type of moment to keep the love alive…. but dont worry he will say it
and he pretty much has implied it the whole season so….
i cried, paraded, clapped, laughed and then watched the end over and over BEST TV SHOW EVER!!!! YAY HUDDY!!! FINALY!!!

      • nitemar

we always knew how House felt about Cuddy, it was her turn now, she first told House she didnt love him, we had to hear it from her..loud and clear, and boy did she delivered..”I love you, wish I didnt, but I cant help it..” beautifully said.

    • Meg

      Tour de Force?

    • SISTER

I AM SO GLAD I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO APPLAUDED MY TV AND CRIED !!!! LOL

  • Crystal

This is fantastic. As a House/Cuddy fan, this is all I ever wanted for them: to give it a shot. I KNOW there are obstacles and pain and heartache but there can also be some beautiful too. If handled in the right way, I think this could make for some great tv.

    • Samantha

This is so me right now. Thank you, [H]OUSE for going there FINALLY. <333

  • Monica

The worst season finale ever, and the worst episode of House ever.

    • Mike

You obviously never saw the season finale of The Sopranos

      • Bob

Hey, Mike, there’s a huge difference between a season finale and a series finale.

      • mary q contrary

So true, Bob. Also, for the record, the SERIES finale of The Sopranos was brilliant.

      • Justin

I agree mike. I’m actually tired of people sticking up for the sopranos finale. I get that a person has an idea on how their show starts and ends… but that’s how he wanted it to really end? the family about to eat? For a show that shocks you so many times, that is just a sad, sad, pathetic ending.

I loved this house episode by the way. I’ve been waiting for house and cuddy to get together since about the first or second episode of the show. Now only for both bones, and castle to get done screwing the fans around (JUST GET THEM IN THE RELATIONSHIP AND BUILD US SOME GREAT STORIES!!!!!!!!!!!!)

      • Maggie

The Sopranos ended with a wimper. They couldn’t figure out a real ending, so they just cut to black. I loved the Sopranos, but HATED the ending.

    • juju

      Agreed 100%.

    • koker

      agreed

    • Mike

your retarded, and all of you “agree”-ers are also retarded.

      • Sara

Ah, “your retarded”, the mating call of the unintentionally ironic…

      • Dale

        **You’re
If you are going to call someone names, at least do so with proper grammar so that YOU’RE not looking like a ignoramus yourself. kthxbye =]

      • rhett

I think Retarded was signing his note:)
        your,
        Retarded
Or else he’s an ignorant person that’s also a hypocrite.

    • justme

I agree! what’s with all this “best episode ever” crap? I’m glad they finally got together but it wasn’t all that exciting…

    • Lisa SImpson

I agree that it was the worst season finale, and add in the worst season, of “House”. But last week’s self-indulgent snooze-fest was the worst “House” episode ever.

      • James

Disagree. This season was a fresh change of pace for me.

    • cara

      I agree with Monica.

    • Tracy

      Well…every party needs a pooper!

  • Thomas

It’s about time House gets a chance to be happy. Yes, this has the potential to be a trainwreck of the highest order, but it’s certainly *way* more interesting than House falling off the wagon again would have been.

    • TMB

This is why this show was never meant to go as long as it has. The problem is that there’s a fine line when you create an unlikeable character to give enough tiny glimpses of goodness to keep him unlikeable. I know that doesn’t sound coherent but hopefully someone knows what I mean by that.

      • E

TMB, I totally understand what you mean. This show definitely has gone on too long, because now the character of House and all his principles – the principles the show rested on – have totally disappeared. And all that’s going to happen is this relationship is going to fail miserably, the show will end, and it will be a really sad way for something that was once so good to end so disappointingly.

    • Lyn

“House” and “happy” don’t belong in the same sentence. The only possible outcome is for Cuddy to become UNhappy.

      • Suki

        You are so right!

  • Tara

WHO CARES? HOUSE FANS ARE OVERBEARING FREAKS WHO NEED TO GET HOBBIES.

    • Vanessa

I totally agree. Reading all the comments is sad. Such hyperbole. “this is the best thing on earth.” “we’ve waited 100 years for this.” House fans need to settle down, take a breath, and stop speaking in extremes.

      • Mag

Yes, because mean-spiritred people who stomp on other people’s good times living lives to emulate…

      • mary q contrary

And rude people who read through all the comments on a post about House, then attack the fans because of some kind of beef they have with their deserved satisfaction isn’t sad?

      • juju

It’s not all House fans. Just the coked-out ones that can’t get laid irl apparently.

    • Amy

Wow, sounds like you have some anger issues to work on.

    • Katiecat

May I ask why you bother to read the fans’ comments if they are so over the top?

      • cs441

Agree. Don’t know why people who hate the show bother to read the recap AND the comments AND even post their own ! Wow, you guys really need to get a job or something.

    • deana

I read this as “need to get hobbits.”

      • Sam

They’d have to go to Isengard.

      • Suki

        Hahaha!!

    • Lizzy

Totally agreee wit you, I used to love the show, but the fandom, especially those Huddy fangirl weirdos, is just too crazy.

    • Michael

I’d argue that people who troll fan sites, urging others to “get hobbies”, need to get ones of their own.

    • kew

      Tara
Welcome to our House Freak ZONE
why are you here ?? trying to stir up trouble is school out for summmer ?

    • rhett

Tara, the fact that you’re HERE saying that says a lot about you! LMAO!!

I love you House and Cuddy!

    • Maggie

      Tara’s hobby is trolling.

    • JB

      Don’t feed the troll.

    • nitemar

think you got on the wrong bus..trollingbus depo is next..you can get =off there..lol!

  • Katheryn Mae

    It’s about time!

Ir just better not screw up the show …

  • missy

I’m SO happy. House and Cuddy are finally together. <3 <3 <3
    I just can't wait S7. ;)

  • ahhh

    i’m so happy.

  • Leigha

You guys just made my life. I have never been more happy. and i am a true huddy shipper, we have waited 6 long years for them to quit dancing around. i am so thrilled! cant wait for next september when it starts!

    • Lisa SImpson

Made your life? I’m sorry, but that’s just sad.

      • Alix

People, get a grip. Posters tend to use hyperbole when talking about an especially satisfying episode. Don’t take it so freakin’ literally.

      • Moneyka

Do you know what´s even more sad?You insulting another person you don´t now nothing about and just because she has emotions ………..you pathetic

  • CTB

AT LAST KJ HAS SEEN REASON!!! THIS IS THE ONLY TIME I SEE HER SPEAK REASONABLY!!!!

I LOVE THE WORLD TODAY! TODAY IS A GOOD DAY!!!!

Oh and btw, I don’t care about a sex scene anymore. What we witnessed tonight is so much more than a sex scene that i would prefer to not see them do it in my life to see them and miss all this sweetness tonight brought!!!

    • JenR

I know. I said “Awww, they are holding hands.” Hee hee. I never thought of myself as a shipper, but I guess I am. But, the relationship was justified by developments in the story line and characters, so it’s not like they just threw them together to make people squeal. The characters grew to reach this point.
