Image Credit: Jack Rowland/The CWI’ve got good news and bad news for fans of Smallville heroine Allison Mack. The actress has opted not to return as a series regular for the show’s 10th and final season. That’s the bad news. Here’s the good: You have not seen the last of Chloe — not by a long shot.
“It’s amazing to think that Chloe Sullivan and I have been one and the same for over a third of my life,” says Mack in an exclusive statement. “I’m truly humbled by the love and loyalty of all the fans whose enthusiasm has carried me — along with a cast and crew that has become my second family — over the past nine and a half years. Out of respect for the amazingly loyal fans and the place I will always have in my own heart for Chloe, I’m coming back for several episodes next season to tie up Chloe’s Smallville legacy properly.
“It’s been a life-changing ride,” Mack concludes, “and I look forward to what lies ahead with the strength of a ‘superhero’ as my foundation.”
Speculation about Mack’s uncertain Smallville future had been running rampant for months. Exec producer Brian Peterson recently told me he was “very optimistic” that Mack — the show’s last original female cast member — would be back in the fall.
Thoughts? Relieved Chloe will at least get a proper send-off? Sound off below!

Perfect example is her stealing the book of rah from him in last night’s episode. I hope the rumors are true that her role will be diminished in the final season!

Allison’s web series, Riese, was picked up by a cable network, so she’s got other things to do. Don’t cry for Allie, it’s her choice and she can return whenever. But, folks, she’s not a part of the DC world, and aren’t you ready to see the final evolution of Superman and the comic legend as written? Again, stop being so negative all the time. How do yo people get thru daily life?
To be honest, I don’t think I would have liked the character Chloe if she weren’t being portrayed by Mack. Smallville was based on the comics but it doesn’t actually fit in with Superman: Zod, Doomsday, Brainiac, Lex dying (even if this won’t last) and Tess all have happened under different circumstances and too early. Tess is a merge of two different characters so we can see that Smallville and the comics don’t fit together completely. She hasn’t had the best storylines because she is completely original and the comics obviously don’t give her any backstory but Mack has done well with what she was given. I am pretty sure she will die in season 10 and I hope that her death is a very big thing so the character has a good send off.

First off, Allison Mack is a lovely person. Despite the fact that I don’t care for the CHARACTER that she plays on a TV show I Wish her nothing but the best in her life. She is lovely and talented and I appreciate the time she gave to the show.
That being said, Smallville is and always has been a show about Clark Kent, the future Superman. Many supporting characters have come and gone over the years and they’ve all had their supporters and detractors. Lex, Lana, Chloe, Martha, Jonathan, Pete etc. But this has ALWAYS been Clark’s story. He is the star, focus, heart and soul of the show. I wish Allison well. But it’s time for the show to realign it’s focus on Clark’s life so that the show can end with a bang next year.
Tell that to the rabid Lois fans. They think this is all about Clark AND Lois and nothing else.
Remember (years ago) when Allison Mack used the pseudonym “Lois Lane” while working as a reporter? I thought that would be the transition from her fake character to a real character (of the comic series). Was she fired from the future role of Lois Lane? Why would someone use the name of their cousin? This sounds like a backstory “fix” to cover-up a change in casting/story line to me. Any ideas? Also, yes, Lana Lang and Pete were in the comic book, although as you can imagine in a 50 year old comic book, Pete was white, not that it matters. I thought the actor who played Pete did a great job.

not gonna lie, i’m disappointed in mack. she couldn’t finish off one final season? at least she’ll be back for “several” episodes. i really hope that she will at least be around until the 200th ep. that would be a good farewell ep for chloe (but she better not die…)
But why would she come back for the whole season, honestly? What’s in it for her? So she gets lousy material to work with and 3 minutes of screen time again?

Allison worked on SV for 9 years and gave a great performance no matter tha lousy material she was given sometimes. She got really little material in S9 and I do not blame her for wanting to move on to more challenging projects just as Kristin Kreuk & Michael Rosenbaum did.
I think its actually really good to just have her come back for a few episodes to finish out Chloe’s story. I wish she could be on the whole season because I love Allison but the fact is at the end of the day its a show about Superman and Chloe Sullivan isn’t a comic book character. Since its official that this is the final season, I think it makes sense to close out Chloe’s story so that the true focus of the final season can be on taking Clark/Blur to Clark/Superman. Allison is one of the few actors to step out of the tv show that made them famous with the right mindset. Still, I don’t know how much I’ll watch once she’s gone. I guess at least I’ll still have Justin Hartley.
I’m also bummed that she won’t be coming back, she was by far my favourite character! None of the other characters come close to capturing my interest in the same way, although I am starting to like Lois. If next Season is the last Season I may have to see it through to the end. I have really enjoyed Smallville so far… I wonder how they’ll get rid of Chloe? I guess that they’ll kill her off so that her murder will drive Clarke into action.
I have watched every episode of Smallville, but I think I’m out for season 10. This series should have ended 3 years ago, but The CW was so desperate to hang on to any shows that could consistently muster more than 2 million viewers per week. I will check out the series finale next year, but I have no interest in watching “Lois and Clark” version 2.0 (I still have fond memories of Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain). Season 9 was boring as hell (I hated the Zod storyline), and I don’t think the writers have it in them to raise the quality level for season 10.
You say it was BORING? For me it was the best season so far! It was an outstanding plotline and that battle at the end was EPIC! Look, I’m sad that Chloe’s leaving too, but it won’t make it any less better…

Yeah, Allison Mack was consistently the brightest spark of talent of the show, including the “Kents”, although “Martha” brought a surprising warmth to the show. I, too, thought the Zod storyline was painful and over-done. At least in “Lois & Clark”, it was Clark who didn’t have a clue and Lois who had it all figured out that Clark was Superman, but she just bided her time her him to tell her, a much more classy approach than Smallville Clark’s constant lies. Also, seeing Lois as stupid is unsettling, since in the original comic books Lois is nobody’s fool, taking down crime lords and crooked business men almost single handedly. It always seemed like Allison Mack was the only one worthy of Superman, especially her capacity to not need him, and still be competent. Also, they’re always portraying Cloe as being undatable, when in my experience, the smart pretty girls are in the highest demand. The world has too many dumb girls who attempt to get by on their looks. I agree that the writing will have to get much better to make up for the talent of Allison Mack.
i have to agree i love smallville an will continue to be a loyal fan but she was always my fav in thw show dont get me wrong i knew her an clark couldnt end up together because of lois but i always had hope for them..she was one of my fav things about it..

Yep, no more Smallville for me. After the shoddy way they used her character last season I don’t blame her. Ignored the first half, undergo major character shifts with no explanation, restricted from normal and expected interaction with her cast mates. Yeah, can’t blame her for calling it quits. They had her for two years longer than she planned and completely squandered her talent last year while pushing her out.

Allison Mack has been a great acctress in the seasons Smallville. Unlike any other actresses/actors, you always have to let them go. Either way, they won’t be there always. (Like Jonathan Kent) But, I thank Allison Mack for being in Smallville. She was really amazing in it, and so are the other actors/actresses. Good job all of you. I love Smallville. Always have and always will.

I’ll miss Chloe/Mack. I thought she did a great job, but I have to agree with all those that are true to the comic. She wasn’t in it. Neither were Lana or Pete and their characters went poof. Remember, the show is about Clarks’ life before he became Superman. That’s what gave Miles and Milar poetic license to create what they wanted. The original DC comic never covered that.

Sad she did not want to stay until the end. She was so close. I was sticking it out for Chloe, but Allison Mack has the right idea and I just did not have the momentum to finally stop watching even though the show I loved has been over for a couple seasons now. This is the final nail in the coffin. I am going to put Smallville behind me.
Whoa, Jeff. Maybe she made other plans when it was looking a lot like this (9th) would be Smallville’s last season… or whatever. This doesn’t seem like an attention grabbing departure, like Shelly Long leaving Cheers, or Denise Crosby bitterly leaving Star Trek, for presumed superstardom. I’m a Chloe (and the lines overwritten for Chloe) fan.

All of Clark’s high school friends (including Lana) should have been ditched when he graduated. Then a new cast of supporting characters should have come in with college.
I can see the danger in trading up everyone at once–Chloe would’ve been fine in season 5 and 6, but beyond that, she’d served her purpose.

If Chloe had a role to play, that’d be fine. But she doesn’t:
-She’s not the reporter anymore. And before anyone blames Lois, go back and watch early season 7 episodes–Chloe clearly wasn’t that interested in journalism anymore. It seems her dream job hadn’t turned out like she thought and it wasn’t working for her anymore. For example, she scoffed at leads Jimmy was cultivating in “Fierce.” When Lex fired her she didn’t even care and she moved on from journalism completely in “Hex.”
-Watchtower might be important for the League, but Clark has the Planet to be his hub of information for crimes in Metropolis. At a certain point, it starts hurting Clark’s character if Chloe has to do all his investigation and information-gathering for him. That point was somewhere in seasons 5-6. No character should torn down to build others up, especially not the show’s main character (Clark). Sorry, but there’s a built-in narrative bias–Clark has to be the most important and respected (by the writers) character on the show.
-She and Clark are barely friends anymore–look at how she treats him. Yes, there were mistakes on both sides, but that doesn’t make it right for either of them. Besides, friends in real life drift apart and stop being part of each other’s lives. It sucks, but it’s realistic.
-So what should she stick around for? Making out with Oliver? Sorry, but there’s more important developmental plots to handle than them. Should she be Dr. Fate? That could be interesting, but there’s no reason to believe that won’t be covered in these episodes she’s in.
-The point is, this show has more developmentally important things to cover with Clark, and removing Chloe so they have more screentime to focus on Clark is EXACTLY what they should do in the final season.

Chloe hasn’t reached out either. And she’s the one who constantly went behind his back “to protect him,” while Clark laid out his game plan for Chloe and Oliver clearly.
Neither Clark nor Chloe has been a good friend to each other this season, but sometimes that’s how it goes in real life.

Clark is the main asset to this show. When he’s lowered to make CHLOE look good, people are not going to like it. Those who do, imo, watch it for the wrong reasons, which means their interpretation of it all is going to look hella biased.
I love Allison to bits, so it’s sad to see people down her just because she decided to go do other things. When MR & KK left, it was because they wanted to. People should respect that. Just like I expect people to respect that Tom Welling is the reason this show is ending next season. We’re happy that we have such an incredible show. ONE character that means nothing to the story is going to change that. It’s time for Chloe to go and for a lot of people to look to a majorly awesome season. =D

Except Kristin leaving in season eight dropped about 1 mill viewers. Michael leaving dropped about the same after s7. In s7 they were in the 5′s. In s8 they peaked in the 4′s.
Season nine after the shark-jump season eight finale, a night change, and cutting Allison out, never EVER made it to 3 mil. So yeah, there is a chance it won’t go down any more because the majority of her fans (the non die-hards) have walked.
But that really doesn’t say anything positive about the show other than it’s bleeding off long term hardcore viewers.

This makes me so sad. I know that a lot of people don’t like Chloe but I love her and think that she’s always contributed a lot to the show. I will really miss her next season. But that being said I’m happy that she will get a proper send off and I’m glad for Allison taht she can move on and hopefully accomplish more great things in her life.

Yes. This is Allison’s choice. It is what she wants and her fans need to remember that before getting all rage-full. I’m happy that Allison is happy.
Allison has many irons in many fires. Ever think that maybe she just didn’t WANT to play the same character for a full decade? Let her go and be happy. Geez, she’s getting the proper respect and departing on HER OWN TERMS. She’ll be back when needed. I’m just amazed at the haters who have to view every decision by every person associated with CW or Smallville with a vicious, negative attitude. Smallville will live on, will re-energize with needed characters, and will have a landmark 10th and final season. Be happy, and please stop complaining about every single thing on TV.
