If Nathan doesn’t want the new season to be status quo, why doesn’t he kill off the girl and get Bones and Booth serious about each other kind of like Hart to Hart and solve crimes and travel to different places outside of the Jeffersonian. Love Undercovers for that reason. They kiss, they solve cases …..
i have been a loyal veiwer through all the seasons and im starting to get frustrated everyone knows booth and bones belong together why cantthe writer jsut make it happen its what everyone has been waiting for since it started i also cant wait to see lil hodgins and montenegro lolthats gonna be a cute baby lol please turn season 7 into something more veiwers will come watch i know that no matter what you do i will watch but i would like to see it better and bring more veiwers thanks sincerely your loyal fan angela
Hack again?!
booth is soo cute and when brennan has the baby it is goin to beeee soo cute cuz they both look good does anyone no wen the next season is coming out wen bones getd pregnent????????????????plz answer yes i am in my teens
booth is sooo adorible him and bones r gonna have pretty baby this season it is an girl
This.
Agreed! After awhile angst just becomes annoying… definitely feel like the moment will have passed by the time S6 begins, especially if Bones or Booth or both of them don’t come back single.
yes, this. i really, REALLY disappointed with the finale. they took, like, 10 steps back. i don’t care if it’s heartcrushing or beautiful, we are tired of the game.
P.S. Please go watch the previous year of CHUCK, whose writers see a romantic relationship as a challenge to be embraced rather than avoided.
this.
Don’t speak for everyone, thanks. I’ve read through the comments here, and I know A LOT of fans are disappointed with the finale, and speaking as a Booth/Brennan fan who wants them to get together, I actually liked the finale. Yes, it’s a little disheartening that they haven’t taken the monumental next step, but let me tell you that I suffered through 9 years of this with the X-Files and Mulder/Scully and the will they or won’t they. If I can handle that? I can handle anything, even this. One thing I’m not going to do? I’m not going to give up on the show when I haven’t even SEEN what the writers and producers are going to do next season. I think I’ll save my judgments until I’ve at least seen the start of next season.
You summed it up perfectly. I’m sick of the little touches that makes my heart leap into my throat, and then they make them date other people, while it’s quite clear that both of them are in love with each other.. I mean, based on the fact that the writers/producers have put hints of foreshadowing about the love between the two, they BETTER end up together. But I’m sick of waiting. If they’re not going to do anything about it, then leave that part of the show alone for a while, and focus on their friendship forming even more.
I’ll be honest. I’m terrified to find out just how butchered the Booth-Brennan sexual tension will be in the premiere. I think a love interest may push Brennan to realize her feelings for Booth, but I think the new love interest could very well drive a wedge in between Booth and Brennan. Probably no more diner scenes at the end of the episodes, etc. And, let’s be honest: us Bones fanatics LIVE for those little moments.
It’s no doubt, though, that the 100th episode was also foreshadowing that Booth WILL end up in a relationship in the premiere.
Agreed. Sure, they’re going away for a year, but they’re obviously going to A) come back, and B) eventually get together. This episode was all about the Booth/Brennan love and tension. They just didn’t kiss. Which is, I guess, all people want.
For the record, I’m a shipper and would have been livid if they’d kissed in that stupid farewell. I’m just tired of being jerked around, and that’s what this was.
I think the showrunners are regretting the character stuff from this year and are going to hit the reset button. They’ll come back, possibly with other love interests and we’ll pick up with round six thousand of UST, and pretend the 100th ep never happened.
Bored now.
I agree… They needed to decide earlier if the show was about BONES or Booth and Brennan, you know
I agree. Hanson has just completely lost me. The finale actually managed to be even more disappointing than last years “dream” episode. Now we have “time jumping”. With only a couple exceptions, almost every episode this season was just wheel-spinning.
For me the question about whether or not they should or shouldn’t doesn’t matter. They have change the whole tenor of the show over season 4 and 5. They have turned it into an out right comedy. The worse of that being Brennan and now her total inablity to relate and have so few emotions. Go back and watch the first Three season and you will see she supressed her emotions but she did have them!!!. H. Hanson has ruined my favorite show. Now its just sad to watch them together. I said this after last season stop making up reason for them not to be together. Just go back to writing good shows than it would not be just about whether or not they get together. Either way I am done!!! They have missed their time now it’s just annoying and the show itself has changed. I give one more night for reading.
Completely, utterly agree. If I hear one more reference to “Moonlighting,” I will snap.
because they love to disappoint fans. and because they are afraid of moonlighting effect. stupid moonlighting effect. this time, HH is really making us down when we are expecting something more.
because they know that, despite what many people are saying now, they will watch again next fall. Why? Because, eventually, B&B WILL get together and most people, despite “hating” this finale, or last year’s finale, or every episode since the premiere, will want to see it and what comes after. Last year, the comment boards looked like this, and I am preeeettty sure the ratings remained stable this past fall or even went up. When people have a few months to calm down, they’ll want to see what happens 12 months from now.
I completely agree. I’m done. No more Bones for me.
Mostly everyone.
I expected more, because interviews with HH and SN said that we’d get payoff in the season finale for the heart-wrenching 100th episode, and we really didn’t. I’m disappointed, and I’m going to be really annoyed if they don’t come back alone. I love this show, the writing and acting are still amazing after 5 seasons, but the will-they-won’t-they is enough now. I preferred last year’s season finale, frankly. She can admit she loves Hodgins but not Booth, who is going to a war zone? Come on!
I think they had to split B&B up at work so they could be together in life. Its all part of the plan to get them together. Eventually.
I agree completely. The amount of hysteria over a TV couple is slightly disturbing.
I agree perfectly. I think it’s gonna be perfect to save the show and relationship.
I agree with The Voice of Reason Coalition.
yeah, I agree. I don’t know why people are freaking out.
THIS so much! It’s definitely creepy.
CHUCK! CHUCK! CHUCK!
As I said in an earlier post, a show that sees a romance as a challenge rather than a problem.
Well, HH was tight with the information. We barely got any spoilers for the finale. So, I’m sure Ausiello didn’t know.
I’d prepare to say good-bye, then. Emily said a few days ago that during lunch with Hart last week they talked about whether B/B should get together next year or not. And this was after Hart had commented on having the first six eps scripted.
They just hit the reset button where, by giving them a break from one another, they can pretend this year didn’t happen.
Um, then you might as well stop watching right now. You really think they are going to get BB together in the first few episodes, next season? LMFAO That’s ridiculous. You’re not going to see B/B together until the series finale. They are doing a year time jump to rest the BB relationship. The finale for the BB “relationship” was the 100th episode.
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Or let the imaginary shark take a bite.
Why?? God forbid things should change – the irony is the episode is about change and booth mentions about not liking it and you are doing the same. Lovely.
I agree with the guy about the door and imaginary shark. Who cares if you’re not going to watch it. At least explain your criticisms! Validate your arguments next time.
Some people claim that things are redundant so they try to mix things up a bit and that’s a problem too? Typical
It staying same means that much to you then just by the DVD’s and put on continuous play.
Could not disagree more. This was the first season finale of Bones that was not a complete train wreck of an episode. I love Bones but, I cringe every year come season finale time. They have always tried to fit 3 hours of story into 60 minutes and this was the first time that an hour story was told in an hour. And done well. And while I would have liked to see the “will they, won’t they” wrapped up about a season ago, it’s still a strong and enjoyable show. To quit watching because of one issue with the show is foolish. To have a larger issue with the quality of the show is one thing. I almost quit myself after the whole Gormagon season because that whole season was a mess from beginning to end. But, season 4 was good until the finale and this season has been great. To get all bent out of shape and quit watching because two characters aren’t dating is a little ridiculous.
Me too!
Just some people.
I agree. That “some people” were in the minority.
You people are silly! But seriously, most of us wanted something to happen between the two of them.
ditto, ditto, and ditto- loved this episode, loved this season & loved the song they played at the end!!!
I totally agree…people need to calm down…if they want people to continue to watch, a shake up may be just what they need…and btw, i have a feeling that the whole “they may not come back alone” thing means they will be bringing in new characters, not necessarily new love interests…just my opinion…once we calm down, we will realize it was a good thing.
Yes, I really agree….while I say they should’ve been together at the end, it was awfully lame for a little handshake and that’s it. Seriously, why on earth would Booth waste any more time on Bones? She’s not worth it, and each passing episode shows that more and more. Her character is laughable now, and not in a good way.
Actually? No, this wasn’t a cliffhanger.
Not every “true fan” feels the same way. As a fan I have paid attention to the way the characters have been portrayed, and I feel I understand the creator’s vision for them. I liked the episode, I like what it suggests for the future.
Agreed
The moment came and went a long time ago.
Bones and Booth have been stuck in place for years now with no real character growth and the shows quality has suffered for it.
By trying to hold off making a decision, the writers have done a great disservice to these characters.
I agree. Chuck is the only show that seems to be able to get this right. At some point, the constant will-they-won’t-they changes from an incentive to an irritant. Chuck took it to the perfect point, then continued the relationship making it even better. Bones is now on my last nerve, and I think I need a break from it too. I think I’ll be skipping season 6. If they figure it out, I’ll check back in season 7.
Actually, it’s a great comparison. Networks love to screw around with relationships because the shows are easier to deal with in syndication. Chuck being on the bubble has allowed the writers to do what the fans want; it’s not like they can hold cancellation over their heads even more than they already do. The best shows produced in TV history have always been on the bubble.
The show jumped shark like two seasons ago.
I agree Frances. If they had ended up staying I would have stopped watching. This finale actually has be intrigued for Season 6.
You should say bye, now. The changes aren’t going to be “they will”. It’s going to be “we pressed the reset button for B/B and they were be like they were in season 1″. B/B aren’t getting together(until at least the series finale) and we all have to deal with that or stop watching.
I’m confused…would a die hard fan really be “over this show”? That’s a bit of an oxymoron don’t ya think?
The actor who played Sully is on Warehouse 13 on Scifi, so I’m guessing they won’t be bringing him back, at least not on any recurring basis.
That is not the only think I want…but I definitely could see that happening…and then it kind of brings up the whole baby issue for Brennan again…
That seems like the way to go, right? She’s be so cute pregnant. Of course, a year is long enough to actually have a baby. Maybe it’ll be Angela and Hodgins who don’t come back alone.
I think it’s pretty hilarious, though, that Brennan is going away with Daisy. Not exactly her idea of the perfect companion to spend a year with!
I was thinking that Angela/Hodgins are actually going to already have a baby when they all come back together. A year gives them plenty of time.
I hope so!
That is the first thing I said when the episode was over! I hope she is that would be a great addition to the show
Oh dear god NO. The last thing I want to see is some whinning brat. I can watch any show on TLC if I want babies spitting up and the “joys” of parent hood.
Not necessarily. Their engagement happened before the 100th episode, and the 100th was shot in January, so their engagement was problem written towards the end of 2009. Pilot season is February/March, so it was probably set before Carla got her pilot. I imagine she’ll be back now that her show didn’t get picked up, though. Hart says they like all of their intern characters.
Quite honestly? I’d be fine if they both came back with other people and said, ‘we’re just going to be friends and partners.’ The problem is that Hart keeps insisting they’ll be together eventually, and playing games with people who want them together, and it’s all a bit stupid at this point. I’d lay money that what will happen in the fall is they’ll come back with one or both of them in relationships and then immediately pick up with the UST-THAT-WILL-NOT-DIE and we’ll have another season of will-they-or-won’t-they. It’s dead. It’s past ridiculous at this point to think two grown adults could play this game for this long.
That’s what I object to. If they weren’t going to get them together, they shouldn’t have played that card as long as they have.
And you know this how?
And you know this how?
Maria has it exactly right. There are PLENTY of shows that have their main characters together and can still bring in viewers, take Greys Anatomy or Vampire Diaries or Desperate Housewives.
I swear, if someone mentions freaking moonlighting again when it comes to Bones…that show was in the 80′s for goodness sake! There are other reasons why that show ended.
Good point. The books center on Brennan’s POV, but they’re all about the cases. Whereas many who like the series want to make it all about the “romance.”
Well, not everybody.
I think part of the reason that ending felt weak was due to the music. It felt off to me. The problem when writers get a couple together isn’t that the couple is together. What often happens is the things that kept them apart don’t get addressed or conflict isn’t introduced into couple.
If I may live as a writer for a couple seconds, it would be interesting if they were together and Booth felt they should be all happy and a perfect couple, and yet Brennan still behaved much like she always does, correcting him and such (which she does because she is helping him, but he takes offense). This creates a conflict and leads to an interesting relationship.
A little kiss on the cheek??
Agreed!
Nonsense! In last week’s Gravedigger episode, she hugged him with such intensity and emotion, you could feel it AND see it!! She HAS feelings for him and a kiss would not have been out of place.
That actually wasn’t a woman. That was Col. Parker, the soldier who was killed in Booth’s group, the one who he named his son after. We saw him (as a ghost) in the episode where the Gravedigger kidnapped Booth and trapped him on the abandoned ship.
Thank you, Kristen.
You know, despite your rudeness, I’m going to say that I’m really glad you liked the finale. Truly. I’m glad there are people who see whatever it is that got them hooked on the show in the first place. And you know what? There was a nice moment or two in it.
Me, I don’t think I’m lazy that what I mostly see is them backing away from the character growth they’ve done this season. They’re using the time jump as a way of distancing themselves from everything they just did. And I’d lay money that everyone will come back in the fall and things will be the way they were a season or two ago.
I Agree – I feel totally let down after this episode, and even more so after hearing about all the “changes” next season. This show does not need to be shaken up – and do the writers and producers actually think we will like to see Booth and Brennan with other people? NO!!
If they stall the B/B relationship or introduce a flimsy new love interest (what a contrived, shallow affair it would be!) it will destroy the vibe of the entire show and make a cheap mockery of all that we as fans have come to love about this show and the booth and brennan characters. this would also be the most horrible, i repeat, THE MOST HORRIBLE cliche to ruin something with so much potential. And i think the overwhelming emotion from viewers is definitely in agreement with my feelings.
YES! This. What people don’t get is that sexual tension can be resolved in other ways than by having sex. They resolved it in the 100th when they decided not to go there. Period. It’s over.
At a guess, they realized what they’d done and decided that skipping forward a year would distance them enough from the 100th to allow them to pretend it never happened. So we’ll back to the unrelenting, beyond boring, way beyond believable, UST. Oh, good.
I think the question is whether there’s any reason to think things will be different next year. A break from the angst would be fine, but it requires them to have changed — he’s no longer in love with her, and there’s no more pretending the UST survived the conversation at the end of the 100th.
But they won’t do that because so many fans are so desperate for them to get together. So what the year long break will do is reset things back a few seasons, to before their relationship got so intense. It’s the only option if there’s to be retreat from the angst and pining. But I, for one, don’t watch shows that go that route (of pretending major stuff didn’t happen.) So…not much to hope for, then.
I think that is why he said things will change. They have already established Brennan will not date or be with Booth, which means during her one year away from him she will meet a scientist who she relates with. She will come back with a man and Booth will have to deal with her in a relationship. Yet again. Though I think he will take it better since she has turned him down already.
No Cheery, you are wrong.
The difference is that both House and Cuddy have had other relationships and many, many episodes go by without the emotional attachment scenes that Bones throws at us every week with their “2 minutes of lovesick Booth” at the end of the episodes. Yes, House has been on a year longer, but the comparison you make is poor. They don’t use a Cuddy hook up one fifth of the time that they tease with B & B.
Is this show taking pointers from Shane Brennan? B&B is worse than Tiva in the “will they-won’t they”, and hello end of Season 5 NCIS. Ugh. Nothing new under the sun, I guess.
J. Norman, ok maybe I don’t have enough perspective (not a regular viewer, only watched 100th episode and finale this season). I Didn’t realize they perpetually tease the idea of those two hooking up. That would get annoying fast.
Jenn, it would seem Hart Hanson, David Shore AND Shane Brennan have taken a page out of the same book: baiting viewers with the potential of a relationship. Though I have to say on House it pisses me off the most! House and Cuddy have a wonderful decades long connection but apparently they can’t get together–season 7 better pay major dividends!!
Regarding Brennan’s character, I agree she’s very inconsistent. I sometimes wonder if her character changes from episode to episode depending on who’s writing for her.
I always felt that with this show it was a matter of “when” and not “will they won’t they.” I hope they continue with that, and not start with the games now…
Quite honestly? If they came back in the fall and really followed up on this with real life changes, I’d buy it. I’d watch it.
Friendship/partnership love between them, but no more of the relentless UST games. Both in real relationships with other people. The UST is gone. They resolved it. They said no to a relationship. That’s fine. It happens.
That’s what we’d get if they were trying to do a real show, something that would happen in real life.
But the show hinges too much on the UST, whether it’s believable or not, so they’ll come back and things will be the same as they were before this year, before we experienced all that inconvenient character growth.
You do know why Moonlighting ended, right? That it wasn’t that they got them together, but that then they separated them for months — they weren’t in any scenes together — and then she married someone else? That would kill any show.
Letting characters get together can cause problems for a show, if there’s nothing else interesting in the relationship. But relationships can work and be interesting if there are other things to resolve. And Brennan would have a lot of stuff to resolve.
But mostly? Other things than sex can resolve sexual tension, like a couple deciding not to act on it. Or one rejecting the other — which happened in the 100th. If HH is afraid to let them get together for fear that the loss of the UST will harm the show, it’s over anyway.
The UST between them is gone for a lot of people.
It’s was only a theory, no need to be so offensive…
She can’t admit to herself she loves him. It’s much easier to “love” a friend
and my husband kept sitting there saying ‘Just kiss her already…..”.
Luuuuuved Billy Gibbons guest spot as Angela’s dad
I actually took her being able to speak of love to Hodgins as a sign that she is closer to being able to say it to Booth. Baby steps if you will.
I, too, am frustrated with the will they, won’t they being dragged out. I came to this show around Season 3 and had to do a catch up. The plots and sub-plots and relational issues are well done and build upon one another over the seasons. I will watch next season because I just have to know what happens once everyone returns, but I suspect that I will once again see a Jag. I stopped watching that show several years before it ended. Sick of the emotional roller coaster between the leads.
Hart Hanson created this shows, the characters, the relationships, and you want him replaced because your wishes aren’t being granted? End the show because you’re not happy? The h*ll with those of us who love the show just the way it is, right?
*sigh*
After what has happened between them a kiss would have been totally wrong. Their clasped hands showed more emotion and commitment than any lip-lock could have…to me, anyway.
Cordy.. xena is INSULTING. Nobody is debating the fact that it’s television. I am pretty sure we are all aware of the fact that Booth and Bones don’t exist in real life. But.. I suppose the two of you are cut from the same dispassionate cloth. The type that don’t allow yourselves to get immersed in a story or care about creativity. That’s okay – the world needs your kind too.
Wow, Kirby, maybe you should stop with the personal insults and just take a breath for a minute…life’s too short to get this worked up!! It’ll be ok-just breathe…
By the time they REALLY got them together no one showed up (i.e. I Want to Believe flopped)
Not going to happen. Sounds too X-files, that the audience doesn’t know they slept together until the woman gets pregnant. And they already had shit audience reaction enough with last season’s not real sex.
I agree with Dan and Becca!
remember guys, these shows are as formulaic as they are great. Bones is exactly 1 season behind the other dynamic character/procedural hyperdrama (House). If you saw this season’s finale of House, you know what to expect from next season’s finale of Bones.
I hope they keep the rotating interns though. If Daisy ends up a regular and the others go, that would be the worst thing that could happen.
I had the opposite reaction. The year apart is a perfect soft reset. It lets there be changes without having to make the changes a huge deal. After the 100th episode, Booth’s longing for Brennan and her constant refusal to go there was getting painful. I think I as a viewer also need the objectivity a little time can bring to make their relationship more of a possibility. Obviously the characters weren’t going to be put together right away but laying everything out on the line like they did in the 100th episode made many of the following episodes hard to swallow. Too much was hanging over their heads. The one year fast forward will let the characters realistically be at a new place in their life, places that I’m sure in some cases would have been a bore to watch.
I kind of expect Booth to be in a serious relationship and I pretty much expect Brennan to come back more open to being with Booth. It will flip the script, give the eventual relationship more balance and therefore make it stronger.
It will be fun to catch up with what’s gone on with Cam and Sweets and hear what Angela and Hodgins did for their year in Paris.
This was the least angsty season ender in ages for me. A welcome relief and something to look forward to, not dread, in the fall.
I agree with them too.
i also agree with BUKWRM. After 100th ep it was just too hard watching everything hanging over their heads, I couldnt even care ab the murder, I just watched for scraps of looks b/n them, and it was torture. I am looking forward to the 1 year jump for both to get perspective. I actually expect Booth to come back engaged. Can’t wait!
agreed, BUKWRM. I think this is like the second part of the reaction that the 100th episode catalyzed. I think it was a good way to handle things. I think Brennan will likely realize during this time apart that the benefits of being with Booth outweigh the risks of getting hurt in a romantic relationship – but maybe Booth will be the one determined to move on, and eventually they’ll meet in the middle. I thought it was a decent ep – not the mind-blower that the 100th was, but a good set up for interesting storylines next year!
I’ve seen so many shows go stale around the season 4/5/6 mark, I think it’s GREAT that they’re trying to prevent that before it happens! If they wait until it NEEDS shaken up, it’ll be too late. They’ll have lost all their viewers and no one will have any faith that they’ll be able to restore the former glory. Best to keep things moving and changing now – that’s how real life works anyhow.
You may not like seeing Booth and Bones with other individuals, but as soon as the writers place them into a romantic relationship, the show is over. Part of what keeps the show going is the tension between Booth and Bones.
i agree i do not want to see booth or bones with anyone else and i believe that more people watch this so because of the romantic tension between these two charcters. i know it keeps me wanting to see more.but i do think the writers will mess things up and the show will not be as good if they both come back in different relationships. i could not watch it then.
Atavanhalen put into words why I like Bones and House so much… I’ve always felt they were so similar-the main characters are [socially] disfunctional, have extreme sexual tension w another main character, and solve cases in their respective fields. Now that House&Cuddy are “together,” I seriously hope that the next season is the last season bc they’ve hit end game. If the writers dare do anything else, they will lose their audience.
Even though the finale&ep100 were ridiculously painful, they had to happen. if Bones&Booth end up together, the writers must end the show if they don’t want to lose fans and be FORCED to end Bones by Fox… We don’t want Bones to end up with the same pitiful fate as American Idol.
@oddmonkey:Really?… there’s a point when the sexual tension gets too painful, and you just want to see your favorite characters get together and be happy. Putting them together would likely make fans happier with the show, since we have waited SO long for it. And there is more than one way to create tension and interest within the show besides sad, painful relationship issues.
I couldn’t agree with you more! What a letdown for a season finale. Almost as bad as last year’s Dream sequence. For a show that has such great approach to murder mysteries ~ it sure has a rotten way of dealing with interpersonal relationships. ARGH!
@Heather: I totally disagree that the show would be over once Booth and Brennan get together. I think there is so much more story to tell when/if they finally do get together. It would be so interesting to watch Brennan struggle to open up to Booth on a whole other level and to see Booth try to guide her along the way. Having them together would be sweet, funny, and, um, hot.
I also felt let down by the finale, mainly because Hart Hanson kept saying that even though ep 100 was heartbreaking there would be a “big pay-off” in the finale. Did I miss that big pay-off because I have no idea what that might have been.
Also, I felt that a majority of the episode was spent on the case (which was boring) and the dumb storyline between Hodgins and Angela’s dad. Why wasn’t the focus of this episode on Brennan and Booth coming to terms with this change in their lives and relationship? I love this show and think it’s top-notch but I thought this episode was a dud. It had so much potential to be great but I thought it was kind of boring and just fell flat.
I’m hoping season 6 does NOT start with one or both of them returning with a new guy/girl in their lives. I’m not saying it should be smooth sailing for them and they should just be together but I really don’t want so many setbacks thrown at them that they wind up not getting together until the final scene of the final episode. That would be terrible and such a waste of potential for the chemistry those two have together.
@Melanie-Booth is going to be in Afghanistan for a year, how in the world could he come back engaged? I just really don’t see that happening, been around the Military much, or better yet guys that have deployed? I have been an absolute fan since day one, I think the show is going in an excellent direction and I am very excited for next season. I think this just may be the one, or at least I hope so =]
NO WAY !!!! I DO NOT WANT TO SEE THEM WITH ANYONE ELSE!!! R the writers trying to upset 99.9% of the viewers ? I think maybe they are
!!!!
@Sarahjane – I couldn’t agree more. After painfully watching Bones turn Booth down, the following episodes were just awful (in a heart wrenching way) to watch. I will admit I liked the finale MUCH better than last years. At least there was love there. The hand holding, the “Don’t be a hero. Don’t be you.” comment. There is love there. If Bones continues on like this, with the pain between them, it’s going to end up losing me. I don’t care if they don’t ever bring the subject up again. Or if they put them together. But anything has got to be better than what’s been going on.
I think a change would be good – especially if it is a big change. Some of the characters are starting to grate a bit – somewhat: Angela and Hodgins as a couple, and Daisy completely (maybe she’ll fall victim to some rare jungle disease or something). Of course, there is still great chemistry between Booth and Bones, but I think the two of them just getting together and living happily ever after would be a huge let-down and a bit anti-climactic. At the same time – how many seasons can you go with things in limbo between them?
I think it’s worth realizing that people respond to a show for different reasons. What works for one person won’t work for someone else. I watched the show for character growth and change, and loved this season because that happened. And last night was all about undoing that, pretending none of it ever happened. They’re not going to move the characters forward, but back. People who don’t want Booth and Brennan together have won the day (which is truly awesome for them) and when things pick up in the fall, the dynamic will be heavy on the UST while everyone pretends Booth never actually fell in love with her — which is what a lot of fans seem to want, from what I can tell — for things to be the way they were in the first few seasons, when the attraction was there and the caring, but not the unrequited love and angst.
I’m really, sincerely pleased for the fans who want that, because there aren’t any other options here but that they’re going to get what they want. But I watch TV to see characters grow and change and I’m bored now. I recognize others’ mileage will vary.
I don’t think the comment about a new recurring character means they’re hitting the reset button with a love interest. I think the fact they’re doing a time jump is a way of hitting the reset button. The point is to put distance between the post-100th emotions, make it as if it never happened so the dynamic between the two of them will go back to some earlier point, probably pre-S5.
In short, I think they realized that they screwed up, that if they weren’t going to get them together, having them actually face that and say so changed things so much they couldn’t continue. The only option was to somehow lessen the emotional impact of the 100th and the best way to do that was to separate them for a year.
I don’t think they’ll forget about the relationship they’ve had. But I’ll bet nothing else is ever referenced about Booth having been in love with her this season. Or at least not until whenever the show ends and they finally get them together.
Agreed. And I’d be fine with the finale if I thought they were actually going to follow through anything close to real life with this. But Hart has said repeatedly that they’ll be together by the end of the show, so all this is is a way of continuing to keep them apart.
In real life, adults don’t play these kinds of games for 5+ years. If they wanted to make it real, they’d have them come back and both move on with other people while still trying to navigate a complicated friendship/partnership. But they won’t do that, either, because Hart’s promised too many people they’ll get together at the end and they’re afraid people will walk if they’re not constantly dangling that carrot. Me, I don’t want a fairy tale. But storylines and character development I can believe in would be good.
Agree with nearly everything you said, but particularly the Parker stuff. Using his child to guilt him into leaving for a year when no child of that age would want his dad to be gone (particularly to a war zone) was wrong on so many levels.
well said! I just hope they don’t bring them back with other relationships and use that to make her realize her feelings. She is not that type of person – she knows how she feels, she is just terrified of those feelings. I would like to see her explore that area of her life a little more with Sweets, I think there could be lots done with the character in that sense as well
He couldn’t kiss her. Not after her rejection in the 100th. She’ll have to be the one to change things, and since she’s the one running…it was never going to happen. I held out hope that she’d have some last minute revelation at the thought of being away from him, particularly after Caroline’s assertion that it was their last case. But nope. And I guess that makes sense, that she wouldn’t act impulsively at point.
But quite honestly, if that didn’t get her to change her mind, I can’t imagine what will.
remember guys, these shows are as formulaic as they are great.
I’m with BKWURM1. It was just hard to watch them try to heal from ep 100. It’s also natural for them to want to be apart for a while. I’m pretty excited that Hodgins is taking Angela to Paris! I’m excited for the fall when everyonecomes home.
i also agree with BUKWRM. After 100th ep it was just too hard watching everything hanging over their heads, I couldnt even care ab the murder, I just watched for scraps of looks b/n them, and it was torture. I am looking forward to the 1 year jump for both to get perspective. I actually expect Booth to come back engaged. Can’t wait!

Why, oh why? They keep dragging the Booth and Brennan storyline to this point over and over again. Please just stop that. Nobody wants to see that for the 100th time. I just hope they don’t get one of them a new love interest AGAIN!
I couldn’t agree with you more! What a letdown for a season finale. Almost as bad as last year’s Dream sequence. For a show that has such great approach to murder mysteries ~ it sure has a rotten way of dealing with interpersonal relationships. ARGH!

i dnt agree with neither off yall bitches
I agree! She IS independent, stubborn, and scared. The 100th episode, the second-to-last episode, and the finale all flat-out SHOWED us that whatever her feelings are for Booth, she’s a scientist first and she’s scared and worried about everything. As the amazing lawyer noted, they are running away from each other. That’s COMPLETELY realistic. And a year apart may change things in GOOD ways…I don’t think of it as a “reset” button. Bones has been influenced by Booth. There’s no “resetting” that. And who says that the perspective she’s going to gain won’t lead her back to him?
Mandy, well said.
If that’s the case, it will almost certainly be Brennon. I doubt that the women that Booth is going to train (if any in this assignment) are going to be. .. how do I say this PC. . .attractive.
Judging by comments here and other places……YES, a LOT of fans thought it was a terrible finale.
Let Booth and Bones get married and put their relationship to rest. Let’s get back to the murder with bones concept. PLEASE!
You are absolutey right….I couldn’t have said it better!!! I personally can’t wait Till season 6
Bones Is great!
Have you BEEN in the military? They move pretty quickly.
HH has said they’ll be together by the end. He’s also hinted at times they might do it earlier. Either way, if they’re really going to wait until the end of the show, this entire season was a serious screw-up then. The sexual tension is gone and has been since Booth declared himself and she rejected him. And I think they know that, and that’s why the time jump — they need to distance themselves from this season so they can pretend the whole he’s-in-love-with-her thing never happened. I think they’re hoping that a year’s absence will allow them to reset the sexual tension.
I’m not sure it will work, but I guess they’ll give it their best shot. It’s a pity no one told them in advance that more things resolve UST than just having sex. And having them talk about it and decide not to do it resolved it.
I don’t agree. Bones has grown tremendously. She was borderline autistic when the show began. Now, she has relationships with her father, brother, Booth, and everyone else at work. She is much more open. Did you hear her talking to Angela about her feelings for Booth? Emotional growth takes time. I think Booth will be waiting when she grows up.
Next season is THE last season.
You are giving too much credit to the writers who, I think, have no imagination nor guts. No guts, no glory. They ought to study the writing habits of the ones who work on House.
I saw it coming from just the interviews I had read the last week, both here and other places.
Exactely!, Why House and Cuddy, but not Brennan and Booth? … definitely House has better writters!
You said it better than I did, but the sentiment’s the same. I agree with you’re last sentence, if not the rest of it.
If they weren’t going to get together eventually, why make the whole first 5 seasons all about them? (‘Cause they undeniably were, SO MUCH more obviously so than most shows I watch that prefer subtlety). All that tells me is that HH has something up his sleeve and eventually things will turn out okay, for shippers and non-shippers alike. Because anyone who watches the show for the bones instead of the people won’t complain if B&B DO get together, and all the crazy shipper fans will jump ship of they don’t. It seems logical to me.
This is not Chuck, and the problem is not the romance, it’s the characters–Brennan is a unique, gifted, yet deeply troubled woman. The show has presented us with more than enough reasons for her fears, self-doubt and inability to “love”…at this time. I believe she will change, they will be together eventually, and in the meantime we can still enjoy the other character and the murder-solving. If we choose to.
I don’t want this show to be House, or Chuck, or Moonlighting. I want it to be true to itself, and some of us feel that is exactly what is happening.
And if they want the characters to grow – then Brennan better come back a bettr person and not some genius robot. And if TPTB expect the many loyals fans who wanted B&B together after waiting for 5 seasons for to just say “oh…look, they both moved on and fell in love with others. Let’s get on with solving cases” – they are naieve. I believe next season is the last season. I highly doubt it will be renewed if the show follows the course HH wants to take it.
I missed the last part of the show when she was going to get pregnant with sperm from booth. why did she not get pregnant. that was during time booth had the brain tumor. never did hear anymore about having a baby. Why? please advise.
Oh god, I hope they don’t drag a baby into the show. First, that’s always a huge waving flag that a show is officially creatively bankrupt — when you don’t know what to do, drag in a baby, everyone loves a baby! The show is not about parenthood. And moreover, Brennan can barely relate to adults on an emotional level. If for some reason she wants to experiment with “nurturing” it’s best she start on something small, like a hamster.
TOTALLY agree with what you said, Maureen! That’s what it is: laziness. I cannot believe they want the fans to fall their “hype” about next season. AND if B&B end up with others, well, they ought to kiss their jobs good bye. I believe they think this is originality but it’s not – it’s having no cajones or talent to write episodes that have B&B together.
Sometimes relationships between people who are “perfect” for each other just don’t work. It all depends on where each of them is at that time in his or her life. Surely, we are all adults and we all know that. Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White were all fairy tales.
Booth will never fall in love with anyone else.
They held hands to make a point–one that a lot of people seem to have missed.
That’s your opinion.
Ooh, nice idea!
Hart Hanson has RUINED the chemistry between B&B.
Actually, someone on another list pointed out that she tells Hodgins she loves him and connects that to giving a lot of advice. She then does the same thing to Booth, and some are seeing that as an oblique declaration of love.
You may be right. In real life, the direction the characters have taken are very realistic.
Yes Booth would be called back to the Army because they need people ofhis caliber to train those fighting those unnecessary wars we are in;
Yes, Bones is running away from how she really feels about Booth. Actually, the BOTH are running away from how they feel about each other.
And, if B&B are meant to be together (which we all believe that to be true) being separated for a year isn’t going to change things. No matter what you do or how much distance you put between you and the “love of your life”, there will always be a connection. It doesn’t go away because you date and sleep with other people, it doesn’t go away because you are in a war zone or digging up more “bones” from bodies. It will always be there. And after a year – the feelings will still be there and will always be there…regardless.
A 9-year-old who has had patriotism indoctrinated in him by his father since he was born and whose mother probably oversimplified the issue herself to make it understandable to him…in other words, Parker.
Also, in the real world – Booth would have asked for a transfer by now. There is NO WAY that he would stay working with Bones after the way she has treated him. A man (or woman) would walk away no matter how much the other person says “but I still want to work with you”, That’s insulting and who would want to put themselves into that position on a daily basis? It takes a saint to handle that kind of rejection AND to stay working CLOSELY with the person rejecting is asking to much for a caring person to handle. That’s not realistic. It’s down right cruel.
So maybe thinking in those terms, we can see where maybe the writers are headed.
But I have not liked the Bones’ character hardly at all this season. It’s liked she regressed…and then all of a sudden a light bulb goes on and she can’t handle all the love and caring from those around her. She is doing what her parents did to her. Maybe the year away will make her grow up.
I have to disagree with you that TBBT is the most watched comedy on TV. That distinction falls to Two And A Half Men – which show is the lead-in for TBBT.
I dont’ think so… emily and him are pretty good friends, i don’t think it will affect
I have a feeling that his costars probably knew about this stuff long before he came out with it – it was fairly general knowledge that he cheated on his first wife back in the days of Buffy/Angel, too. Like in every workplace, people who are good at their jobs don’t let personal issues get in the way of working relationships…and I think this entire cast is GREAT at their jobs!
Sully is the perfect example that Bones CAN BE IN A RELATIONSHIP!! She was fun when she was with Sully and she almost took him up on his offer to go sail around the world but she couldn’t leave her friend, ie Angela, at the Smithsonian. So the writers have regressed with Bones’ character.
I agree with Dana. I thought the ending was perfect and very well done. I can only imagine how their reunion is going to go after being apart for a year – I imagine lots of hugging and maybe even a kiss?
i totally agree this ending was so perfect. only bones can pull off such a subtle finale….nothing too grand and explosive, just simple emotional and mental stimulation. perfecto!
I agree. I don’t mind the show being shaken up a bit. I just hope that eventually B and B end up together.
Oh honey, those figures are wrong. My friend works for a TV Network (yeah, Fox) and she gives me the real ratinggs every week on shows. TBBT beat WEAK competition on Monday night, had a good lead in show in 2.5 Men – it may not do as well on Thursday nights.
Also, your explantions, ie 2′s, 3′s -are hard to understand. I wouldn’t take as gospel what any of the entertainment websites say about TV Ratings. There are trade publications that have the correct ratings but unfortunately, is inaccessible to the general public.
Dancing With The Stars BEAT everyone in their time slot, and continues to do so.
Also please take into account, every region of the country is different. Some shows do well on the East Coast but don’t do as well in the Midwest.
Obstacles. Since this sounds like “An Affair To Remember” – who is going to be in a wheelchair – Booth or Bones???
Agree. Our interest will go elsewhere with just a peak in to Bones once in awhile. Or just read the message boards without having to watch the show!!!
Think that might be why it’s called… Bones…?
I totally agree, Suzanne. I’d love to see Daisy become a regular. She needs to come back and fix the mess she made.
No he hasn’t.
fyi that actor is older, he just looks young. he played a 20ish soldier on China Beach which was on abc about 20ish yrs ago.
Not everyone’s mind.
Oh, you mean the show that ended because they let the main characters sleep together and then immediately separated them — not even one scene together for months — and then had her marry someone else? That show?
I’ve heard of it. I just can’t understand why people think it was merely the act of getting them together which caused the show to fail.
I’m starting to think the so-called ‘Moonlighting Curse’ has more to do with people being *told* any show that allows two people to get together *must* fail, and thus the expectation is there, rather than that anything genuine about two people in a real relationship (which obviously wasn’t the case with Moonlighting) can’t possibly be interesting. “Oh, look! They got them together! I can’t watch the show any more to find out what happens next!”
Sorry for the sarcasm. I get tired of Moonlighting being the standard for all shows involving relationships when it didn’t allow them to actually have one.
STOP WITH THE MOONLIGHTING COMPARISION BECAUSE THERE IS NONE!!!!
Ha, ha – It’s funny that you mention that, because that’s exactly what I’d like to see, even if it’s cliché.
…and the fact that the two stars of moonlighting hated each other in real life!!! not the case here!
Most of the people who want to blame Moonlighting probably never even SAW the show. And if they knew anything about it, they wouldn’t blame it all the time. For the five millionth time the show did NOT go downhill because Dave and Maddie had sex. Do some research people.
…and the fact that the two stars of moonlighting hated each other in real life!!! not the case here!
Anyone else think it was super-cold of Daisy to leave Sweets in the dust like that, with no discussion of compromise or anything? I mean, weren’t they all in love a few eps ago and she was freaking out about being dumped? Just seems inconsistent. I mean, Brennan put more thought into Booth’s feelings on the matter of her departure than Daisy did about Sweet’s feelings, and Daisy and Sweets were engaged! Random.
God I hope so!
But thats what so many people are saying…this supposed “change” is just a red herring, devised so that the writers can keep the characters apart even longer. Its 5 seasons of it.
Booth went AWOL to see Brennan off at the airport! How could you have missed that?
YES, we all know it is a TV show and reel life, not real, but we are vested in the outcome and care for these characters, so understandably fans are disappointed when the characters’development is messed with and they keep them apart for contrived reasons…BB would not have behaved this way 2 seasons ago, let alone now. I think this is why we are upset, that they are not growing as they should…
The fact is the series is finite – there is only two more seasons. ANd in those two seasons they might pickup a few new viewers but it will mostly be the loyal core audience. So why can’t Booth and Brennan get to gether? The writers cannot draw this out for so long and it would be just plain insane to not have them end up together. I suggest the writers get together and write the two searies story driven arc and end the series with some really interesting, smart, sexy, silly crime solving fun. That is what makes the show enjoyable to watch. At this point why do we need anymore re-occurring characters? Give your loyal audience what they want and do it smartly and with some intelligence! (and throw in some sex!)
I find it unfair the way the writers are dragging us around too. But if they don’t get those two together sometime soon I’m sure a portion of their viewers who are not at all interested in the cases (me) will leave. The tension between them can only last for so long. Personally I also believe that after the two are together there is room for more conflict. Just think how protective Booth would be of Bones and how he might not let her do everything she does now because he has a say in it. Her struggling to understand what kind of relationship she’s in. But I do disagree that all the episodes are “stale”, I think the writers are doing a good job of keeping us interested, but honestly the two of them aren’t getting any younger and I don’t want to wait until they’re fifty to figure out they belong together.
1) Turn off your caps. It diminishes the quality of your post.
2) Did you read all the comments? Many people liked the finale and have no problem with the writers or HH.
3) Leave House out of this. The characters are nothing alike, the story lines completely different, and it’s not such a great show anymore…just my opinion.
I like it, hope it happens. Or just some good writing.
I agree 100% with everything you’ve said here. I do think part of the problem is that, as far as I know, Hart doesn’t know how much time he has left to tell the story. They’re guaranteed through next season, and there’ve been rumors Fox is talking of giving them two more after that. That’s a big gap to play with. He said last fall that contrary to what people assume, he’d like for them to get together before the end, so people can see them working out their relationship. But three years might be a bit long for that (resulting in the same kind of breakup/get back together that we saw with Angela and Hodgins) but if he’s only got this year left, he needs to get on the stick. Two years would be perfect, to my mind — spend S6 getting them together and S7 letting us see how they fine-tune their relationship.
But yeah, if they go the route of her being ready and him not, which I think they might well do…I think they’ll lose people at that point.
I think Daisy will marry a native and stay in the jungle. She’s hard to take on a frequent basis.
i completely disagree!!! when they took Zac out of the show it completely sucked!!!!!! he was one of the best characters!!!
I don’t know about that. Women carry the torch. Men marry the next woman they meet.
Brennan may grow enough to want a relationship with Booth, but my money says that Booth will have moved on. My guess is that they will get back together just before the show ends, so they can ride off into the sunset together and spare us the inevitable fights about water splashing all over the sink, dirty clothes on the floor, who is responsible for meals, dishes, and laundry, and WHAT ABOUT KIDS? Yes or no? And who will have primary responsibility for child care?
I am guessing that Brennan won’t get the whole “She cooks, cleans, does the laundry, and takes care of the kids, and he fixes things around the house and all the yard work” dynamic.
In other words, he works 40 hours a week and she works 24/7. Does that sound bitter?
it would be amazing if zac did, he was AMAZING and always will be. that would be like the best thing that would ever happen on this show, next to booth and bones getting 2gether.
Yeah i agree give it another shot, this show is the best!!!
I enjoyed it too Becky! I really am hoping that they come back ready to make a go of their relationship though, and I really do believe that the idea of a baby will come back into play.
But if they do get together I wonder how that will affect their working relationship as they are not allowed to “fraternize”. Will they continue to work together? How could they actually have a personal relationship and maintain their working relationship that gives the show its purpose?
Oh season six… hurry up!

Agreed but I still love the series btw I hope Sweets gives Daisy a lecture about keeping out of peoples lives. Who likes HER???
