'FlashForward' finale: Did advance planning do more harm than good for show?

When ABC first launched FlashForward, the network and producers boasted of having a five-season story arc for the drama about life after an international black-out. Read the full post.

Since the show is over, can the writers tell us what was going to happen and put an end to it all by telling us what we didn’t see, since they knew how it would end? How about a follow up article,Nicole and Lynette?

FlashForward had a lot of strengths, and no way did it deserve to be canceled based on the quality of the show. It had some really terrific actors and an intriguing premise.

I agree with everyone who thought Joseph Fiennes was miscast. A leading man needs to have something going on – some humor, a twinkle in his eye, sex appeal, intensity, something! – and Fiennes was very wooden in this. But Dominic Monaghan was very like, and Courtney Vance, Sonya Walger, and John Cho were all good.

Joseph Fiennes character was a lot more interesting after he started drinking again, Im sure that will pay off in the second season. I saw it in my flash forward

I wasn’t one of the 5.3 million because I DVR’d it! How is it they still only count who watch the night a show originally airs? With today’s technology you can’t count just the night it airs. I was so far behind in my shows (because there are too many on at 8PM which is when I’m putting my kids to bed!) that I JUST finished FF last night! I had heard it was cancelled but watched it thru to the end anyway. Hopefully ABC will change their mind about another season or do a movie to wrap up the loose ends. Don’t leave us hangin’ ABC!

will i thought Flash Forward was great and was really disapointed that it ended leaving more quistions than answers.I feel the ABC should rethink and do another season. make your view’s happy.

This was an awsome show! I can’t beleive they launch shows like Hellcats and Nikita and cancel Flashforward. The show was like “24″, every episode kept you alert.
    Please, continue the show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Flashforward was great, suspensfull. It is getting tiring of watching shows that get you involved then dropped. I agree with someone else, this was for better than V will ever think of being. After all there was already a show called V about lizard aliens. Whats new?

    • John McGill Edinburgh

I fully agree Donna. I watched V as a child some years back in the 80s first time around. The remake was welcomed by myself & family but they chose to drop FlashForward without a proper ending to probably finance the 2nd season of V which, again, they chose to drop without a proper ending! Unbelievable behaviour from ‘seemingly intelligent?’ network heads. A total lose/lose attitude. If they are trying to globally make everyone never invest time in watching a promoted new series all whilst driving their network into liquidation & themselves out of a job then these network boss people are certainly going about it the right way!

I just watched the DVD complete series. I did not understand the end? Who lived and who died. I thought it was great except I was confused at the end. Would like to see more.

Quote 1 from above ‘So will FlashForward go down as a cautionary tale about the pitfalls of planning ahead? For his part, McPherson doesn’t make any apologies about picking up a show with a deep mythology (after all, he did renew V for a second season).’
*My response: Well Mr McPherson should be apologising at least for ripping off/letting Flash Forward watchers down rudely, as although he & others did pick up V for a 2nd season that too was even deliberately ended abruptly without a care for any closure of that 2nd seasons story also (making it all the more worse as people had wasted yet another part of their life on that canecelled 2nd season, on time they’ll never ever get back)
    AND
Quote 2 from above: “In the end, FlashForward didn’t engage audiences like we hoped,” he told EW earlier this month. “A huge part of rebuilding the network is about taking chances. Some shows just don’t work out.”
My response: Yes shows just dont work out because nearly all networks nowadays dont take chances anyways & knowingly have no intention of ever planning the closure a series PERIOD.
This profit-only callousness toward the viewer lately makes my family & me not even watch any new series these days on TV, until way after they have been totally wrapped some years down the line to DVD release (& only with assured online blog reports of excellent closure of said series).
So obviously Mr McPherson types, etc at other networks have already lost me as a viewer of TV series forever now.
