CBS eyes new comedy 'Mad Love' for midseason

CBS is close to rounding out its comedy lineup for the 2010-11 season by offering a 13-episode commitment to the multi-camera comedy Mad Love from Matt Tarses (Worst Week) and Sony Pictures TV, EW has learned.  The show, which is also executive produced by former ABC entertainment president Jamie Tarses, is about four friends in New York – two of whom fall for one another. The pilot stars Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights) and Jason Biggs (American Pie) and will likely bow midseason.

The network already ordered two sitcoms for fall: Mike and Molly, a relationship comedy from Chuck Lorre (Two and A Half Men) that will air Mondays at 9:30 p.m., and Sh*! My Dad Says, a laugher from David Kohan and Max Mutchnick (Will & Grace) that will air Thursdays at 8:30 p.m.

And they drop The New Adventures of Old Christine for this?

    • Diane

      Exactly what I thought

    • Mcfly

A comedy about twenty somethings in NYC. THAT’S never been done before. You’re right. Drop Old Christine for this? Replace Julia Louis Dreyfuss and Wanda Sikes who are seasoned comic veterans with this crap. By the way, they also kept Rules of Engagement on the schedule. Something’s wrong at CBS.

      • or, y’know, nobody watched christine?

      • blah…

and who do you know that watches rules of engagement? i see lots of folks supporting old christine, i have yet to see a credible defense of rules… and this show sounds like its derivative of many shows, one of which is still on the channel right now- HIMYM

    • Matt

Yup. Thanks for pointing that out. CBS, ugh, what a bunch of fools. What are the odds any of these new shows lasts the season?

  • elena

No! Does this mean Lizzy Caplan’s totally off Party Down next season (if there is a next season)?

    • rachel

Unless something changed, last I knew Caplan was only signed on as a guest star, hence she was still available for PD.

  • rachel

I’m confused. During upfronts it was reported this show wasn’t being picked up because Caplan was only a guest star and the network wanted her signed as a series regular. She refrained due to Party Down and film committments. Did she change her mind or are they re-filming the pilot?

  • Doug

I hate multi-camera comedies, but I love Lizzy Caplan and Minka Kelly. *SIGH* Decisions decisions.

  • M

Supposedly they’re looking at recasting Lizzy Caplan’s character with Judy Greer a frontrunner to take over. I’m not sure what other committments Lizzy Caplan has, but it would seem a little silly to turn down another show simply because of Party Down. Party Down is great, but its chances of renewal seem pretty slim and with Adam Scott and Ryan Hansen (not to mention Jane Lynch) all signed on for other shows it won’t even be the same show if it returns.

    • OOH. i adore judy greer, so that’s fabulous news.

  • Menchy

Mad Men + Big Love this does not seem…

    • luis palacios

      LOL @ Men Love

      • luis palacios

geez I mean  Big Men

  • Jessica

I won’t watch. Minka’s got my Jeter for starters (LOL!) but I loved “Christine”….. and finally – yeah, I’ve already watched “Friends”….. nice going, CBS.

    • johan

Well, I wouldn’t worry about Minka because it’s being reported that she is being recast with Sarah Chalke. I guess Minka will have more time to spend with your Jeter. ;)

  • Elle

I LOVE Sarah Chalke! Also if this true the cast would be Jason Biggs,Sarah Chalke,Judy Greer and Bret Harrison sign me up!
