'Big Brother: After Dark' will return to Sho 2

big-brother-11Image Credit: John P. Filo/CBSKeep your late nights wide open this summer, Big Brother fans: After Dark will be back! Showtime has confirmed that it will continue airing live, nightly feeds from the Big Brother house beginning July 8 at 12 a.m EST. This marks the fifth summer that CBS’ sister cable network has run the uncensored and uncut feeds, which have been a ratings success: After Dark has almost quadrupled the average numbers of viewers that Sho 2 typically attracts to the time period, when it usually airs movies (some of which are of the “adult” persuasion).

CBS has already announced that the 12th edition of Big Brother will begin July 8 and air three nights a week on Wednesdays (8-9 p.m. ET/PT), Thursdays (eviction show from 8-9 p.m.) and Sundays (8-9 p.m). The network used to air BB on Tuesdays but the network wanted to keep its winning line-up of dramas on that night intact for the summer.

The new cast for the reality show, which follows a group of people living in a house outfitted with dozens of cameras and microphones, will be announced at a later date. Big Brother is hosted by Julie Chen and executive produced by Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan in association with Endemol U.S.A.

I’m soooo glad SHO2 is keeping BBAD on the air. It’s waaay better than two Ambien and a vodka shot as a sleep-aid.

    • Melissa

two ambien AND a vodka shot, wow. You are hardcore.

BB is a sad, sad addiction of mine. I fully admit I have a problem with the live feeds. Stating your problem is half the battle, right?

I think the whole thing’s kind of weird, and bordering on WAY too voyeuristic.

  • sosgemini

I just can’t watch this show after finding out how much the show’s producer manipulates the cast to reach certain conclusions. I’m no Pollyanna and I know most other shows due it but unveiling the man (err, uhh, woman in this case) behind the curtain really ruined it for me. In return, I gained hours and hours a week of my life back. Yay, me!

    • Melissa

Seeing Chima melt down during the feeds last year was one of the saddest and most riveting things I have ever witnessed.

yes, the producers are talking to the cast in the DR. But for some frakking reason I still find it fascinating. Good for you for giving up the habit.

      • Lisa

Melissa, you have got to be kidding me? Chima did not have a meltdown. She was a spoiled brat that did not get her way and then destroyed their equipment. You Chima fans still amaze me at the way you defend her bad behavior!!!

      • Kyle

I dont think Melissa was being particularly defensive of Chima, but for what its worth I actually think both of you are right. (And i was 100% not a Chima fan)

Chima behaved like a brat when her alliance started to fall apart, but she completely gave up before she threw the microphone in the pool – it was sad that someone who was had been feisty was defeated so easily, and to be honest a bit unfairly with the coup randomly being introduced to save the popular side of the house.

Saying that though im glad it was because Chima and Natalie and thei group were awful and it was great to see them fall apart when their hero Jessie was booted again. :p

You had me up until “unfairly”.
The houseguests were told of a secret power that would be available to use during one of 3 weeks. It was not used the first week it was available. So there was a good chance it could have been used the week Chima won HoH. It’s not unheard of for a houseguest to throw an HoH competition, knowing that if they won this week their power could be taken away and they would not be able to compete for it again the next week. Many times in the history of Big Brother, an HoH has worked tirelessly to get someone out of the house, only to have the producers throw in a twist or bring that person back. It’s nothing new. Chima should have realized that ahead of time and not been such a spoiled child when she didn’t get her way. Even Jessie, who was the one unexpectedly evicted that week, showed way more class than her. She aligned herself with the group that had the most power, and she expected to have an easy ride. The moment it got difficult, she fell apart. No respect or sympathy for her WHATSOEVER.

The reason I like this show is b/c you can see how the cast REALLY is, if you were to rely on only the 3 CBS broadcasts, you’d be watching a totally different show. I wish Survivor was able to air live and have 24 hr feeds like BB.

    • Angel2480

I agree. My opinion of most of the people in the house changed after just one episode of BBAD. Plus, we have been able to witness the legendary Dick vs Jen fight as well as the Chima hissy fit. Those things would have been edited out of the show if it hadn’t happened during those hours. Oh..and who could forget the barftastic Jesse memorial?

      • Hannah

those were all awesome. one thing I don’t understand in BB v Survivor is that BB can often vote for the biggest jerk to win when based on game play but Survivor always votes emotionally. I don’t get it, that’s why I wish we could see a lot more than just 1 hr per week of Survivor.

    • Kyle

Totally agree – Jerry the old guy from BB10 got off so lightly in the main show – he was awful on the feeds but got portrayed as a sweet old man on the main shows.

  • Jed

This show sucks and its host is married to the boss, so she has job there for life. Now this new CBS View-like talk show they’re proposing for afternoons is a horrific idea! And yes, Chen is one of the panelists on there.

    • davey

      The CHENBOT rocks dude :)

  • Mon

The Chenbot is the stuff. I missed BB, so happy it’s back for the summer.

  • Melissa

There really needs to be something other than e-mail to report abuse on this forum. I completely understand not wanting to wade through people saying that abusive posting is that this person does not like my favorite pairing, but could someone with LOTS of programming might please allow me to report the obvious porn trolls and still be able to post here. I wish and hope.

  • Mon

The Chenbot is porn? I knew it!

  • Jennie

I hope Julie does her blog again this year

    • Kim from Texas

Me too! I loved reading her blog. It gave me completely new insight into the show. Her blog was the best entertainment of the whole week!

  • pez

If EW would keep a live-instant reaction blog/comment site up during BBAD they would generate a lot more publicity for themselves, BBAD and the Big Brother show.

  • Kim from Texas

This is really great, great news. Without BBAD, how would I be able to fill up my hours of TV watching in the summer? I completely agree that the best part of Big Brother is being able to watch the house guests for yourself.

  • Del Taco

BB is the best show on TV, I’ve been watching since 2000 when one legged Eddie won ( housemates in the love bed with Jamie, Jordan, Chicken George, etc ) back when viewers voted out contestants

    • Jesse

The best show on TV?! Really? You have got to be freaking kidding.

  • rhode

Now what fun would Big Brother be if we could only watch 1 hour 3 days a week? It would have went off the air years ago if it wasn’t for the live streams people pay for or the hour each night on Showtime. Otherwise it’s just like being at home. But the challenges are like jobs, the slop is like when you don’t have a job, and the arguing happens when the electric wasn’t paid. lol

    • Rascal020978

@ rhode: Just a slight (admittedly nitpicky) correction: BBAD is three hours each night on ShoTwo, not just one.

  • barb

    Fantastic I love love it

  • texas lab rat

well that s great news that its coming back to late night but i hope they find a new hoste website to handle the chatroom meebo is unsafe and dosent have anyones best intrest at heart a lot of bb fans are and have been hurt using the meebo website

    • Damian

      Hurt? In what way?

  • yetişkin oyunlar oyna
