i’m soooo effing excited about Torchwood coming back. Extremely pissed about how they ended Children of Earth.. It will be awesome especially b/c Russell T. Davies will be coming back too
HELL YEAH.. CANT WAIT WISH IT WAS SUMMER 2011 NOW. jOHN AND EVE ARE AMAZING.
I Love Capt jack ,the problem is the long wait__ and the fear that they will ruin, mind you after the way it ended having him kill his own family… you have to wonder what the heck were they thinking …after all look what has happen to Doctor Who… not good.. sometimes i wonder if the creator /writter of the program has a clue …jack must come back but is very worried about american coin counters and the religion freaks …bringing the show to ruin
I was upset with Ianto’s death but with the show on Starz Jack is free to chase after whomever he wants. He is more interesting when he is playing the field or seems to be playing the field. I am sure it wont be the same but I accept that going in just as I expected a new Dr would not be the same. Looking forward to next summer.
I certainly wouldn’t kick Jack or Ianto out of bed for eating crackers! I am so glad that the show is coming back I would love to see a few more years with the series!
Bad news,,,Starz will not air Torchwood on Netflix until 90 days have gone by. This applies to all new Starz series from 04/01/11. Cable yv now views netflix nore as a threat than a partner. Oh well, Starz subscriber here i come, gotta have my fresh torchwood
I watched it on BBCA but don’t have STARZ, so I’ll have to start Netflix-ing it now.
I think BBC America has RERUN rights, meaning they air it months after it has aired in the UK. The Starz agreement (unless I’m mistaken) means it will air at the same time as the UK, meaning no UK spoilers for US audience!
I really dislike Gwen. Hopefully we’ll get some new characters, so it’s not all about her. I miss Tosh and Owen (who always seemed to have more personality than Ianto and Gwen).
That’s interesting. I was always the opposite with Captain Jack. I always disliked his spots on Doctor Who, but really warmed up to him as Torchwood moved along.
What is left to tell for Gwen’s story – are we going to have “wacky” episodes of her pregnancy symptoms, or trying to take care of the baby on dangerous missions (cue the “Benny Hill” theme muzak while they run around) or we have scenes of her talking on the phone to Rhys explaining she will be a bit late trying to kill an alien?
I was really hoping with a reboot with just Jack. No offense against the actress who plays Gwen, but her story is done. Maybe a guest appearance on one episode?
@Machunny; Spartacus was awesome, if you like your sex and violence in massive quantities. It has heaps of both. I tell people it’s like 300 meets Caligula on anobolic steroids. Aside from that, the plot line and character relationships are great. I can’t wait for the next season to start.
I second the SPARTACUS love! Worth getting Netflix just for this.
THANK YOU! We do not have the money for Starz. We gave up premium channels and Blockbuster and only do NetFlix. I may look up Spartacus tonight!
Thanks for the NetFlix info. I’m glad I’ll be able to see Torchwood without having Starz.
SPARTACUS was awesome. So glad i was able to watch via Netflix. PARTY DOWN is hilarious and that’s how i watch that as well. Hopefully when TORCHWOOD debuts next Summer they will be doing the same thing and streaming their shows on Netflix. Actually that’s how I watched all of TORCHWOOD from season 1 to Children of Earth…Netflix streaming! Love it. And this summer there will be an iphone app for Netflix so I can watch on the go.
BROOKE – the new episodes were available the day after it aired on Starz. Same thing with the animated Archer series.
Spartacus is an excellent series, just phenominal (sp) and the netflix instant watch is great thru Wii, PS3 or xbox 360. I do one dvd at a tiem for $8.99 and get unlimited instant watch thru my Wii.
N.Flix now has captions on a VERY limited selection (about 100) of things and most TV shows, like Lost. However Spartacus is not among it so I don’t hold mout hope for Torchwood.
As much as his death hurt, I’m glad he’s not coming back. I love Torchwood, and I love Doctor Who, but I do dislike the tendency for the “reset button” in the season finales. He’s gone. We deal with it and we move on.
There have been a lot of hints about what the Doctor did in the Time War, but we’ve never explicitly seen exactly what actions he took (in fact Gallifrey was alive and well in a time loop in the last David Tennant special). Contrast that with what Jack did at the finale of Torchwood. Not a choice a hero makes.
There is a reason they call the Doctor “Destroyer of Worlds.” Putting Gallifrey and crazy Rassilon in a timelock is essentially the same as destroying it. And the Doctor said himself that Gallifrey exploded in a ball of flame. It all very timey wimey wibbly wobbley. The end result is the same. No more Gallifrey. To SAVE the universe. At great personal cost. How is that different from what Jack did?
*SPOILER ALERT* JLC – the TLs weren’t in a time loop, the events we saw were during the last days of Gallifrey, in the Doctor’s past (our future?). Remember how the seer was talking about Gallifrey falling?
Jack has always been able to do what needs to be done to save the earth. Sometimes, we don’t like the choices that he makes, but he’s the only one who can – and does – make them.
BTW – IANTO IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!
I think the Jack we’re going to get is akin to the Ninth Doctor … angry, bitter, searching for something … I’m really excited about this announcement and eager to see where they take Jack and Gwen (who I love … poor girl, gets no love on this board!) next.
I couldn’t agree more. I feel like BBC is so chintzy with what they’ll let run on BBCA (or BBCA is too cheap to get the good stuff – not sure who make the decisions). I REALLY don’t want to pay for Starz, but it looks like I might have to. Sigh.
No According to Wiki “BBC America is distributed in association with Discovery Networks”. Now you know why only certain shows are on this channel – its like TNT, or TBS with a bit of “British” theme. I’m sure soon they will have wrestling or something non-Brit to homogenize this channel like the rest of the cable networks.
Actually TW was much better when on HDNet – no commercials/edits and great full HD. BBCA can go jump in the lake to put it nicely.
BAH!
Why oh why does it HAVE to be on STARZ?
SyFy and BBC America I get already.
I don’t want to have to pay extra to get this (well, if in that case also Spartacus.)
But still…BAH!
Great news! I am curious to see where they will go/continue with it.
If you have netflix, you can watch anything on starz as if you subscribe to it, cause they are partners I guess, every show that comes on Starz is available on Watch Instantly the same day as its first airing.
If the “creative” team didn’t have a tendency to kill characters just for shock value we wouldn’t need to ask for a reset that often…
Anyway I will not watch if Ianto is not back because I don’t want to get attached to new characters who will die because people die young in Torchwood….
You don’t think ANY of the Gallifreyans were complete innocents? It wasn’t just the ruling class that the Doctor destroyed, it was the entire planet.
BBCA is distributed to American cable and satellite companies using Discovery as a distribution system. (Like an independant film company getting a major studio to distribute its film)
BBCA is a BBC network, although with its own management and budget. It’s like NBC and USA networks, which are both owned by Universal, but have separate management and budgets.
I totally agree with you. STARZ will provide a bigger budget and if you can go by SPARTACUS, there won’t be any retooling of the Jack’s sexuality or the openness of sexuality on the show. FOX would have significantly limited the show and its characters and damaged something we have all grown to love. Can’t wait to see what they do.
Ditto. Most shows are on average 6-8 episodes. On several interviews, Chris E (Doctor 9) would say that, for him, he did two series not one since 13 episodes is twice the norm for a single year. This way, for me at least, the quality can be maintained a bit better (unlike for US shows where it wobbles throughout a season since it is 22-24 shows).
Probably because of the ‘love’ between Capt Jack and Ianto, and watching Jack’s heart break as Ianto was lost.
Well, call me a sap, but all three deaths had me reaching for the tissue box. Deaths, resurrections, whatever–best series I’ve ever watched. Can’t wait for the return.
Thank you Alexandra I will check it out
I feel your pain! I pay for a whole “level” just to get BBC America to see Torchwood! Grrrrr
Actually SyFy didn’t cut-up Dr Who, so I think they would leave Torchwood alone as well. But I too feel it should have stayed on BBC-America. I can’t afford another premium cable channel and don’t want to have to buy/rent episodes either! So glad that it Torchwood is coming back (esp w/John Barrowman’Capt Jack’) but I also worry about the US element. Some shows are done better in the UK. We’ll have to wait and see
Since Russell T D*ckhead is running Torchwood, and NOT Dr. Who, I doubt their paths will ever cross.
So you’d rather have it cut back from 60 minutes to 40 or whatever BBCA allows? So, I’m glad the show will be on STARZ.
My understanding is that it would have included Jack and that they would have downplayed his omnisexuality.
