Will AMC make it three for three? The cabler that brought you back-to-back masterpieces Mad Men and Breaking Bad will try to extend its streak with the conspiracy thriller Rubicon. The drama — starring The Pacific‘s James Badge Dale — doesn’t officially premiere until Aug. 1, but AMC is offering viewers a sneak peek at the one-hour pilot this Sunday immediately following the season 3 finale of Breaking Bad. To whet your appetite, I offer you an exclusive first look at the show’s key art (above), as well as a nonexclusive first look at the just-released trailer (below). Enjoy!

meh… i just don’t see the magic here
i predict a flop
but i’m excited about their zombie series.
sure that will do well.

You suck. If anything, The Walking Dead may just be the flop, which is probably why they’ve only ordered 6 episodes.

Chase! With 2 hands! And yes, I like the poster.
This might be fun to add to my viewing schedule, especially now that ‘Justified’ wrapped up.
That train was bananas too!
Looks pretty good – let us hope it is not like the Prisoner. AMC is really currently only 2 for 3, not 2 for 2.
Actually, they’re still 2 for 2 in my opinion. The Prisoner was a mini-series.
The Prisoner was never going to be a series. It was a Mini-series, nohthing more.
Actually, it was supposed to be a series, but they were disappointed with the output and had it turned into a miniseries. They set the bar very high and create some nice low-risk, high-reward opportunities for themselves.
It definitely looks intriguing, but truth be told I think I might buy into it more with an older (or at least less pretty) actor in the lead role. He has Will Scheuster hair. It’s distracting. I’m sure he’s a wonderful actor, really, but to me something just seems off about the casting.
I think my biggest issue with this show will be how much our lead character looks like Matthew Morrison that I will sometimes wait for everyone to burst into song.
I think it looked pretty good…loved the train at the end. and Ken, the Prisoner was just a mini-series.
Anyone else notice that the “Con” in Rubicon is bigger than the rest of the letters? Nice design.
I noticed the “CON” was bigger and thought that it was subtly nice. However, the whole black and yellow theme evokes some not so pleasant memories of ABC’s yellow campaign from a decade or so ago.
I noticed the CON was bigger as well. Love the design too.
I think the stark black, white, and gold ad is only meant to reflect that the fourth branch – whatever it is – is not playing a game and they mean business. I don’t even recall a yellow campaign from ABC. Also, this makes me sad that we never really got to see Traveler play out. It was about a 4th branch of govt too, and they tied it up in a mess when they decided to deep six the series. I hope RubiCON does not end up with that fate!
Isn’t the 4th. branch the secret intelligence, behind the scenes movers and shakers like the Skulls, Illuminati Free Masons etc.?
The Prisoner was also a co-production with ITV in the United Kingdom. AMC just helped finance it. It was disappointing but I think it was just too smart/slow for television.
The Walking Dead has a built in audience and looks great. The ending of Rubicon is supposed to have a great twist, I’m excited for the preview this Sunday. Then hopefully they pick up The Killing for next year.
I love James Badge Dale and I love Miranda Richerdson, so i’m in! i hope it turns out well, it would a shame to see such talent go to waste
The show I wish would return is The Traveler…it was on a couple of summers ago….and ABC nixed it mid way….
Loved that show – we may have been the only ones who watched, though…
Probably; you,me and my husband. I always felt ABC took it off because if offended the Bush and company.
I’m tired of vague conspiracies and plotlines revolving around confused pretty people searching for “answers” and “meaning.” Not sure if I want to give this a try, especially after watching shows like Flashforward, Gravity and Journeyman come and go. It’s hard to work up a head of steam for a show that already looks like it’s gonna get canceled.
Can somebody clarify if this show is just for one season with a complete arc, or if there is a possibilty of this show continuing on.
It’s slated to run for more than just one season.
Agree. I’m sorry but in this climate you can not say it gets bteetr they had two hour to grab my attention and they blew it. I think the lead was a big problem because he truly did not seem to know when he was smart or not. He is all ennui no angst, humorless and tiresome. Recall Tinker Taylor Alec Guiness was deadpan serious but he reflected such intelligence, poetry, and had such a lived in persona that you longed to know everything about him this guy I just wanted to get shot. Bravo to AMC for trying this there is still a need for a great spy series but after Bourne someone has to strike a balance between our primitive need for adrenal and our longing for intelligence this was a real let down and the next Three days of the condor awaits PS whatever happened to that epic Norman Mailer novel about the origins of the Cold War didn’t Coppola have the rights? Long to see that
Looks intriguing. Yeah, similar stuff has come and gone on basic network TV, but AMC can do a little more (in the same way that HBO and FX can), so I’m betting that this is a little more fleshed out. It also looks like there’s an actual rhyme and reason to it and that the “conspiracy” isn’t just a marketing gimmick.
Plus after The Pacific, I’m curious to see more of Badge Dale. And Miranda Richardson’s always a keeper.
Love Miranda Richardson! It seems silly, but I feel like she brings a certain amount of class and theatricality to her productions
Loved James Badge Dale in The Pacific! I’ll try this.
