People who gripe about Comic-Con need to get over themselves. San Diego is the ONLY place that can boast such programming. Boo Hoo, it’s no longer about comics. You know what, it was never only about comics. Besides, comics aren’t only about men in tights; have you read any manga books, read any EC books. Things like ER, Castle, heck Desperate Housewives all could’ve been comic book storylines back in the early days of comics and even now. So quit ghettoizing the genre and allow the Con to embrace all forms of storytelling. People all over the World wish they had something like the San Diego Comic Con. We should be grateful something like this exists. Besides there are dozens upon dozens of comic cons around the country, but there’s only ONE SAN DIEGO COMIC CON. And if you don’t like it move to one of the smaller places away from San Diego and crawl into a small corner and enjoy your men in tights books. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.) Now when is that Glee panel going to be on?
Actully, you’re wrong. Disney recently started their own Comic Con type convention called D23 to promote their own new shows and movies, and do not have any presence at Comic Con. The Movie and TV conglomerates should do the same. Comic Con’s central mission IS ALL ABOUT COMICS, IDIOT. Well, it used to be. Now it’s a media whorehouse for narcissistic couch potatoes like you.
I wish they would do a full east coast comic-con with all the panels. San Diego might is so far away
I wish I could go but something tells me it’s sold out- the website. I’m curious about Terra Nova, looking forward to checking out The Cape and praying The Event (lazy title) isn’t a more depressing version of Chuck.
Oh, I expect there will be some LOST love, considering the DVD set is coming out in August, and the graphic artists are probably hard at work on some of their own tie-ins. Is this the MOST anticiplated DVD release ever? No, seriously, I’m asking.
Yes. At least for me.
Hate to sound like a total comic book fanboy geek, but I really hate the fact that the TV and corporations have turned Comic Con into a promotional vehicle to promote their new lineups. Most of these shows have NOTHING to do with comics. The mission of Comic Con is to promote the art of comics and comic books around the world, not to showcase new fall lineups for ABC, NBC and CBS! I’ve gone to Comic Con regularly off and on since 1988 and I truly hate what happened to it. The Movie and TV industries should start their own convention to shamelessly promote their wares. Comic Con needs a serious wake up call.
