Image Credit: Jason Kempin/Getty Images; Todd Williamson/WireImaTwo more Friday Night Lights all-stars are headed back to Dillon for the show’s probable endgame: Sources confirm to me exclusively that Adrianne Palicki (Tyra) and Taylor Kitsch (Tim) have finalized deals to appear in multiple episodes of the drama’s fifth and likely final season (slated to premiere on DirecTV next fall).
I’m told Palicki will guest in next season’s last two episodes, while Kitsch has signed on for the final four.
The news follows my earlier scoop that another original Panther, Zach Gilford (Matt), is returning for four episodes (including the finale). Gilford’s onscreen BFF, Jesse Plemons, is also in talks to appear in the swan song. And last but certainly not least, Scott Porter’s coming back for episode 7, but that’s old news.
Thoughts? Any other alums you’d like to see return? And are you dreading life without FNL much as I am? Because I’m really dreading it.

No way. Lyla is one of those characters who always has a place in everyone’s hearts, but it just doesn’t fit having her spend the rest of her days with a high school sweetheart (of sorts), and/or stuck in Dillon. She’s too driven, and I think the point of the episode where she came back in season 4 was to hammer home the point that she’s grown out of her relationship with Tim, which was really a coping mechanism for both of them in the first place.

I completely agree. I would LOVE to see Lyla again. But only if there was a way that could stay true to the story and her character.

I agree with this. I think Lyla’s appearance in season four proved that. She has moved beyond Tim and while she will always love him, they just aren’t meant to be. It’s true to life.
It’s Tyra, who is beyond Dillion now but I think she and Landry might be able to connect. But Tim and Layla have just gone through different paths that just don’t connect.

Oh, here’s an idea… Just don’t let the show end! It’s really the best thing on television I’ve seen in 20 years. Thank you Michael Ausiello, for your great reporting all along. In every episode, I had NEW FAVORITE character emerge… because they’re all so well-acted & the show’s so well written & beautifully shot! Smash’s mom and Buddy Garrity, plus Smash and Landry… How does one decide. I vote for them all… Thanks y’all. I guess I can go back to reading & working more, when FNL ends. –

Show TOTALLY needs to end with Tyra/Landry together. C’mon there are entire fan pages I’ve crossed dedicated to those two. They simply “connect” and in a way deeper than either will find elsewhere I think. It’s sweet.

Series finale theory: Coach Taylor finally leaves Dillon (possibly for a better gig) and a bunch of familiar faces come back for some sort of series ending party scene complete with tear inducing toasts from all our favorite alumni.
