'Dexter' exclusive: 'ER' actress cops recurring role

Tags: , , News, Scoop

april-lee-hernandezImage Credit: Jim Spellman/WireImage.comApril Lee Hernandez has landed what I’m fairly certain is the last new recurring role of Dexter‘s upcoming fifth season. The actress — best known for her supporting work in ’07′s Freedom Writers and as Nurse Inez on ER — will play a new cop (presumably) working in Miami Metro’s homicide department.

Hernandez joins fellow season 5 newbies Julia Stiles (as Dex’s new pal), Maria Doyle Kennedy (as an Irish nanny), and Shawn Hatosy (as someone…who’s, um, not nice).

AWESOME. I loved her in Freedom Writers, and I’m sure all the Dexties will love her as well.

  • Carolyn

Great! Now please can the season start!! I wish it was on already, summer tv shows can’t compare, well except for those on the USA network.

  • Jersey Jeff

I’m looking at the photo and for the life of me, I can’t remember her in ER at all.

    • ps in seattle

Same here. Calling her an ER actress implies she was one of the leads. I saw every episode of ER and know that cast well, but this actress is totally unfamiliar.

      • jennrae

She was one of the nurses who disappeared into the background. She was around during the Sam era, as opposed to when Carol was a nurse. She always wore her hair sleeked back into a ponytail?

  • Jason

What’s with all these new people? Last 4 seasons we only saw 2 new faces, now it’s 3 plus the older additions. I don’t like this trend. Give Masuka more air tme!

Well Trinity and Christine were the main additions last year, but his wife, son, and daughter were “recurring” for four or five episodes, so it doesn’t mean this chick will have significant screen time. Same with the nanny. Julie Stiles and Shawn Hatosy are probably the only two “major” additions.

  • Wilber

I love her. She did an amazing job in Freedom Writers, 30 Rock and all the movies and shows she’s been. We need to see more good quality actors in TV land.

  • Eric

Exactly who is she from ER?

    A Nurse from like season 13-15 ?

ER is one of my favorite shows I can’t remember her either

I hadn’t heard the Maria Doyle Kennedy scoop. She’s fantastic!

  • marctiley

I would like to see Dexter go head-to-head with a femaile baddie.

Hollywood needs new talent, I’m tired of the same faces over an over!! April is an awesome talent and a great addition to young hollywood!! Good luck to all the new faces in L.A.!! Break a leg!

  • Joe

How psyched am I about Maria Doyle Kennedy? Catherine of Aragon died two seasons ago, but she’s still the best thing to ever happen to the Tudors. Her walking out of the divorce proceedings is the greatest scene that show ever produced.

    • Jessica

I LOVED her on The Tudors. I actually felt like the show lost something when they lost her.

  • Ms Allen

April you are a wonderful woman of God and an awesome and highly gifted actress! So many more doors will be opened to you! I remember seeing you on ER, on 30 Rock and Freedom Writers! I remember your comedic personality when we were working at Slate! Keep moving!! Love you

  • Really?

According to Wiki, she was ‘Nurse Inez’ from season 12. I would have never recognized her as being from ER.

  • Juliet Mendoza

Yay! Go April! Praise God. I love April! She is an awesome woman of God and I’m very happy to see her on the big screen representing latinos and, most importantly, the kingdom of God. Glory be to Him. Very blessed to have met her.

    • jennrae

Jesus Christ, what’s with all the god-talk? Religion has no place in entertainment. Is nothing sacred anymore?

  • Juliet Mendoza

Yay! Go April! Praise God. I love April! She is an awesome woman of God and actress and I’m very happy to see her on the big screen representing Latinos and, most importantly, the kingdom of God. Glory be to Him. Very blessed to have met her.
