'The Young and the Restless' lures Eric Roberts

eric-robertsImage Credit: Chris Hatcher/PR PhotosEric Roberts – the prolific film actor who got his start in daytime by co-starring on Another World in the ’70s – will join the cast of CBS’ The Young and the Restless, EW has learned exclusively. He begins filming this week for his July 12 debut as an attorney representing Adam Wilson (Michael Muhney), who escaped from prison and then faked his own death.

Roberts, who will appear on Restless through August, was last seen on NBC’s Heroes and Starz’ Crash. He’s set to star opposite Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis and Jason Statham in the Aug. 13 release of The Expendables, about a band of mercenaries who attempt to overthrow a Latin American dictator.

I hope he’s not doing this cuz he needs a gig. He was just in Dark Knight couple years ago. WTF?

  • scary

love him! he’s a great actor

    • carol

I have always liked Eric Roberts in whatever role he plays. Y&R is lucky to have him. I would love to see him in a more permanent part. Good actors should act.

      • Kari

        Ditto

  • Summer

    Why?

  • Zach

If he needed the work, he should have done Dancing with the Stars.

  • freckles

Y&R luring many actors for guest spots! Recently we have seen Sean Young and The Hoff. I look forward to Eric Roberts though.. I would like him more long term.

    • Stephanie T.

The Hoff started on Y&R as Dr. Snapper. He was probably doing the producers a favor. However I agree that Eric should do DWTS instead.

    • tim

Hoff seems slightly marble mouthed like he,s on a low dose of valium for each take.

    • willie

I agree on having eric longer. I have always loved him as an actor. Im looking forward to him arriving on Y&R.

  • Vikki Sixx

A lot of “name” actors have been doing daytime over the past few years. It’s not a bad thing., James Franco did a stint on General Hospital, Betty White was on Bold & The Beautiful, etc etc. Heck, Julianne Moore even returned to daytime for a one day stint on As The World Turns. A lot more actors are realizing that daytime isn’t all bad…especially ones who got their start on it.

    • cusegirl

I agree Vikki and and I have always thought that Eric Roberts is a good actor and has been underrated, imo, of course..

      • Belle

When Mickey Rourke won Best Actor at the Independence Spirit Award he made a point to mention Eric Roberts. He said Eric was the most underrated actor right now and hopefully more directors will give him parts. Eric is very good actor. If Mickey Rourke can come roaring back then his pal Eric can too which is what Mickey was trying to say.

  • guilty pleasure

The Hoff actually got his start on Y&R back in the 70′s when he took over the role of Dr.Snapper Foster. He just came back to the show to reprise his role this week!!!

  • JoRN

Love him! I think he can act & I’m glad to see he has a gig. I am not a fan of his sister.

  • Constance

B-list actors that have fallen onto hard times with no roles in film. Don’t they all return to the scene of the crime.

  • Lala

Blasphemy! How dare you NOT like America’s former sweetheart. Lol. Julia Roberts is THE reason Eric is even relevant enough for an EW post.

    • No Way

Julia Roberts was NOTHING until Eric Roberts helped her break into acting. He is a huge talent unlike that big mouthed, ham actress sister of his. She is not worthy to be on the same set as Eric Roberts.

      • wolfy

Amen to that! Eric was acting LONG before Julia came along, and she’s nothing compared to him when it comes to talent! I’m looking forward to seeing him on Y&R, especially in the role of the defense attorney for Adam Wilson, the nearly blind con-man son of Victor Newman! I’ve followed Eric’s varied career for years, and I’ve loved nearly every thing he’s done. He’s an amazing actor, and Y&R is VERY lucky to be able to get him, even for a few weeks! I’ll be glued to the set when he’s on! Thanks, Maria Arena Bell, this is ONE celeb star I am majorly looking forward to watching on your show!

      • Sue1

Thank You. Eric got the talent, and Julia got the breaks. I’m not a soap fan, but I’ll watch just to see one of my favorites.

    • PNK

Let’s not forget he was nominated for an Oscar for ‘Runaway Train’ and he was amazing in Star 80, Pope of Greenwich Village, and Of Mice and Men.

  • Kathleen

This guy is such a good actor, but in that story, they totally just spoiled that adam gets caught and goes to court!

    • Kathryn

That’s not much of a spoiler. To keep him on the show, they’ve got to have him come back to GC and go on trial. That way he can get off on some technicality and continue to wreak havoc on the Newman family.

    • Michele

We could see it coming though, we already know he’s not dead so he has to stick around somehow. I cannot wait to see how it plays out, I absolutely love Adam and I never for a second believed he was dead. I have to admit I love to see him take on Nick, Victor and the rest of the Newmans. So happy to have him back. This storyline is really the only interesting one going on right now.

    • valdar

it’s on the cover of soap opera digest

  • Arabella

Tsk!Tsk! Eric wouldn’t take to all this vitriol about his sister. I laud both of them. They have the acting chops to do anything they want..if the roles are there. Some of the scripts being handed out these days are miserable. Daytime drama gives a lot of room for an actor to do what he is supposed to do..act!

  • Henry

Hey. An actor acts and work is work.

    • Buzz

      …and pay is pay …
      … and Y&R is #1 in daytime after all…
..and he can be assured of a decent storyline and not to have to fade into the background as most other soap actors do when they don’t have a front-burner story…

  • dee

I think he is great in whatever he does. Lucky Y/R! Just shows his talent to do many things. Can’t wait to watch.

  • fan

He was fantastic in “Crash” last season, but they killed him off. Good addition to Y&R!

    • mary

My favourite actor just might lure me back to watching Y&R agian!!
