'House' season premiere spoiler: Life's a beach for Huddy!

house-setImage Credit: Kevin Perkins/Gaz Shirley/PacificCoastNews.comRemember my scoopbit in Ask Ausiello about the House season premiere leaving Huddy shippers in a state of continuous orgasm? Well, consider the above image — snapped earlier this week on location in Malibu — your proof.

Last month, exec producer Katie Jacobs confirmed that House and Cuddy would finally make a go of a relationship next season. “This is real and something that they are going to try,” she said. “It’s something they stayed away from for a long period of time because it’s dangerous and the consequences could be severe. But now they’re going to give it a try.”

She wasn’t kidding!

I for one don’t like the trend House has been on for the last few seasons. The best shows have been the first 3 seasons before they mucked everything up. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I have been watching this show less and less over the years, and may not bother next season at all.

    • Marcus

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

      • DomusMaior

        Suck it up, Princesses!

      • Heather

Hey, Chloe, just because I don’t like Huddy doesn’t mean I’m not a ‘real fan’. Give me a break.

      • Erin

ITA with Mel and Marcus. Once they starting changing the team up and got practically fanfictionesque hooking the characters up ala Greys, it got spectacularly bad. However IMO the show actually improved last season bar a few off episodes it was a good season. The photo made me cringe and really not liking the implication that this season is all about Huddy. But I’m just hoping that TPTB do it well and the coupling doesn’t over-shadow the show. I’m still warily giving it a chance.

And Chloe, real fans? Puhlease. As many who watched and loved this show from the day the pilot aired, it’s quite hard to just stop watching a show just because they’ve had an off season or made a few bad turns. There is nothing wrong with being passionate about a show and I can’t stand how pompous idiots tell people who express distaste for a certain aspect to watch something else. If someone gets worked up against something happening on the show, obviously they’re still a fan. Otherwise they’d be merely apathetic about it all. REAL fans don’t just fawn over a show regardless of what they do.

    • Tracy

Funny, with the exception of last season, I feel the exact opposite.

      • ctw

Agreed. There’s only so far you can be interested in sick patient, bunch of tests, eureka moment end.

      • Ariel

The show’s characters and their lives are half the show. Whatever drama is going on with them is half the amusement. So I favor all the character developments and changes. They keep it fresh. Without that, we’d basically be watching CSI: Medical version. Anyone care for that? Not me, that’s for sure.

      • norah

I agree with Kay. I loved the opening shows last season with House in pysch facility, I was enthralled like I had never been. I also loved the last episode.

    • Jac

I agree. I loved the original team, and was even ok with the new team at first. House lost it’s appeal to me somewhere around the time Kal Penn was written off and the whole Huddy relationship became the focus of the show. The medical cases seemed like an after thought that were tossed in at the last moment.

Oh well, to each his own, right?

      • Maggie

They had to leave switrch up the teams. Fellowships are 1-3 years depending on funding, they chars were on 3 years. After it end you have to get a different position. Be glad other were hired back in more senior roles. People careers shouldn’t go on “hold” in shows. it’s not realistic and really bugs me.

      • caleb jones

didn’t kai get a gig at the white house?

    • Sandra

Ditto, same here. I still have a hard time believing that anyone who liked the first seasons actually wants to see this, ugh. It’s like a bad Huddy fanfiction now, awful! Newsflash, TPTB: there are a lot more fans out there who can’t stand Huddy!

      • alex

have you ever thought giving relationships a go aren’t a fanservice and rather a plot they were planning on from the beginning?

      • Sindy

House/Cuddy chemistry was there since the pilot. I’m never wrong with these things. I always notice who is going to end up with whom.

      • pdl

So, it’s OK for House to get shot (Season 2) and thrown in jail (Season 3), but not be in love? The show has been working for 6 years to get to this point. If you go back and watch all of the episodes in sequence, starting with the pilot, you’ll see that the clues for this relationship are all there. Any chance for House/Cameron died after Stacy showed up (Cameron to House: I used to think you couldn’t love anyone, but I was wrong. You just can’t love me.) And Stacy was wrong for House for all kinds of reasons, chief of which is the fact that she betrayed him, something Cuddy has never done.

    • snazzy

When Huddy gets together – they have jumped the shark. Too bad–I really liked House & now no conflict or tension.

      • Lia

10 points for smacking anyone who says “jumped the shark” !

      • Lina

I’ll add another 10 points for anyone who says “jumped the shark” (or any derivation)!

      • Lina

Oops! I meant another 10 points for smacking the “jump the shark” folks!

      • BillK

        I think this is GREAT!

House can only remain a hateful character for so long – even he realizes he needs to grow and change his closest relationships, and this is a great way of doing it.

For those of you who no longer watch – BYE! Who cares what you have to say if you don’t watch?

      • allie

I also think this season has been back on track. And what’s back is what I found most interesting about the House character in the first three seasons…here’s this hard-nose say-anything guy, but then there were these moments of vulnerability that added this great dimension to this otherwise overly irritating guy. Somehow the writers (and the great HL) are making his transformation into a healthier person work without taking away the inner House. can’t wait for next season. And yes, I think a lot of these story lines (as far as the character development goes) are planned WAY in advance.

      • D’s Advocare

        @snazzy

Yes, because being in a relationship with your boss creates ZERO possibility for tension for you, your boss, and your co-workers.

        In Fantasyland, anyway.

      • Debi

LMAO…..it’s still funny to remember where the “Jumping the shark” came from….I was watching it…..tv has come a long way baby!

    • Doc Jensen Minion No 1

I agree as well. I gave it up a few years ago, and I don’t regret it at all.

      • M

        Why are you still here?

    • JTrun

The problem with the ain’t broke don’t fix it idea is that if it all stays the same it stagnates. It gets boring and repetitive, that’s why changing things up and moving forward is necessary. Sometimes the moves are good and other times they’re not but the creative staff seems to be taking things in a decent direction.

    • Amy

      (Insert what Mel wrote here).

    • Bee

You and the rest of the viewing audience. Viewing figures dropped back to early season 1 levels by the end of season 6. They were highest in season 3, and last year the figures were highest when they brought the original team back. And the producers haven’t figured out what we want, yet? Really?

That said, I’m okay with Huddy if they’re closing out the show this year and everyone gets to move on a bit.

    • tash

Agree with you 100%! House is better off just ending because there is only so much more it can go through with what they’ve created. House is definitely no ER! And I bet Lisa Edelstein is extremely happy with the turn of events because all she can go on about is how much she wants to make out with Hugh Laurie.

      • Lara

Who doesn’t want to make out with Hugh Laurie? Seriously, she says it sometimes which is cool, ’cause she’s like the rest of us girls. I like how you tried to (mis)characterize her there though. Classy.

      • Teresa

“And I bet Lisa Edelstein is extremely happy with the turn of events because all she can go on about is how much she wants to make out with Hugh Laurie.”

The Huddy/Lisa fans can snark all they want, but I agree. I’ve found the way she acts around Hugh completely unprofessional, and it has only gotten worse as the Huddy mess progressed. I feel sorry for Hugh, he looks so uncomfortable around her sometimes. I wonder what Jo thinks of it? *smh*

And all this crap about three year fellowships and being ‘realistic’, Thirteen and Taubs fellowship is up, but you can bet they aren’t going anywhere! And when has this show been realistic lately/ever? Yeah, I thought so.

      • everydaypeople

*sigh* The crazies can’t leave this place alone. Lisa hasn’t done anything bad that I’ve seen. But then again, the ONLY people I’ve ever seen say this are mostly Hams. Hugh seems fine around her. They have both said many times that they are good friends and they’re both supportive of each other. I have no reason to think either of them are lying. Lisa is open about thinking he’s sexy. So what? She bends over backwards to try to let people know that he’s married too and therefore off limits. They’re just two good friends with great chemistry.

Btw, I’m not a Lisa fan. She seems like a nice person and all, but I’m not really a fan of actors/actresses. Still these sorts of actress bashing comments bother me, because they’re unbalanced at best. I’m being nice here.

    • James Wilson

All House fans are not Huddy fans. Save that $#!* for Grey’s Anatomy.

The problem is, people expect TV shows to stay in the same format forever. There is only so much of a particular type of episode they have to do before they have to start branching out. Longer running shows have greater character development, and ultimately that leads to a much more rich experience. I for one I have no issue with the first few seasons, and I’m enjoying seeing where they go with the current story lines.

Personally, I think it’s time we explored a House than can actually achieve some personal happiness. Hasn’t he gone through enough to deserve a little of that?

    • SLDB

I do not like this Huddy stuff. I like both of the characters without romantic involvement. I don’t even mind that they were “interested” in each other. They should have just had sex after the 80′s party and called it a day. Then they could have realized that they weren’t meant to be together and stuck a fork in it. Where do people expect this relationship to go? House is not going to change diapers, wipe up kid-throw-up and deal with pureed food being thrown at him from a baby in a high chair. There will be no traditional emotional support for Lisa in this relationship. She had that in Lucas whose character I really liked.

    • jason

while i agree, but the grumpy guy with the pill problem got old two or three seasons ago so i am glad they moved on, I am open to them trying new things, what matters is the characters, if all else fails they can go back to house and cuddy being at each others throats again

    • Jadie

I coudn’t disagree more. I only watch House for House/Wilson/Cuddy. The team is not very important and whether it’s the new or the old team doesn’t really matter. I think it’s great that they are going in this new direction and I look forward to seeing how it’s going to play out. I can picture a lot of interesting scenes coming up!!

    • Aditya

i agree 100%…it’s very annoying these days…this new angle is very unconvincing….

    • Alyssa

I’ll continue to watch House until is gets cancelled, but I agree with you, Mel. The show was unique and hinted at the personal lives of the characters. I loved the way it centered around the patient drama and how that affected the regulars. I feel that House changed in order to get more Grey’s viewers. I think they sold out, which makes me really sad. I can’t remember the last time that a case was as interesting as in the first 3 seasons.

      • Sam

Because the show will not survive with House not being miserable, and they cannot afford to break these two up over something little. Its been over 5 yrs, the WT/WT is way past their mark. Nothing personal, that’s just how TV drama work

      • M

So you’re pinning all his misery on the show so far on the fact that he wasn’t with Cuddy? Wow, you give this ship a lot more credit than a lot of House/Cuddy fans do.

      • Jess

@M love your comment because it’s SO true. House has a lot of issues & they won’t disappear just because he’s w/ Cuddy now. But I hope they give us a lot of funny&fluffy&sexy moments before all the drama.
