Breaking: HBO renews 'True Blood'

No surprise here: HBO has renewed True Blood for a fourth season, to debut in summer 2011.

The news comes just one week after the hit vampire saga kicked off its third season to near-record ratings.

“The new season of True Blood is off to a terrific start, as enthusiasm for this unique show continues to build among both subscribers and critics,” enthused HBO president Michael Lombardo in a statement. “We’re looking forward to more chills from Alan Ball and his gifted team next year.”

Added exec producer Alan Ball: “I am beyond thrilled to be able to continue working with this amazing cast and crew. This is the most fun I have ever had.”

i hope this time on there fourth season for bill there’s a german shepherd vampire dog to protect him & jessica.

    • nodnard

      Uh, what?

    • Jennifer

Yeah, me too. My one complaint about the show from Day One has been that it’s really lacking in the german shepherd vampire dog department.

      • Nicole

@Jennifer – thank you for the near-spit-take I just did with my iced tea. I’ve been actually more upset by the lack of teacup pomeranian vampire dog content, but to each her own. Clearly though, at the very least, we all definitely agree that the vampire dog content (of any breed) has been sorely lacking. Get on this, Alan Ball.

      • Vampire Saint Bernard

How the hell did you read my mind Lemor??? Get out of my head….shoo….

    • ythu

BEST NEWS EVER – I Love this show

    • Mel B

@ Nicole – seriously, lol. My office was too quiet before I read about “the lack of teacup pomeranian vampire dog content.”

      • Keisa

I have been laughing for 10 minutes now about that whole idea. Maybe there could be a Vampire Ceasar Milan..LOL

    • LOL

The vampire thing is so 2008. If we must have these shows, they should only feature vampire dogs.

    • rewolfe

Does anyone happen to know where to find episodes on-line. I’m going out of town and the person that I’m visiting doen’t have HBO.

      • jennrae

        rewolfe, got an email address?

      • Hopefully Helpful

I would break out the old VCR and record it. They have timers so just set it to the right channel and time you want to record it. Usually instructions are online. But always test it. If you are luck and have the recordable DVD players, they work too. Have fun on your trip!

      • Alexxx

        try eztv

    • Barry

Why? He doesn’t show up in book 4 until 200 pages into it. I’m sure they will screw up the story & make sure he is there from the beginning.

  • Michelle

More Eric! That’s all I care about really. :)

    • BLM

If season 4 follow book 4, then you will get TONS of Eric!

      • Greg

I hope it follows Book 4. Book 4 was the best of the series.

      • Brian

        Shower scene.

      • SXiPPY

        More Eric naked, thanks.

        XOXO

      • Liz

Gah, NO! Team Bill all the way! :)

      • Rica

I hope they follow the book. If I can’t have pink spandex, I’ll take tiny red underwear!

      • Lolita Hansen

I agree, more naked Eric please.

      • Olive

Lots more Eric and a butt-kicking Pam.

    • wecamp

Yes, they have to follow book 4. It was the best!!! Then you also get witches. But I really want sweet Eric to show up.

      • Barry

My girlfriend hopes that they devote a whole episode to Chapter 6!

      • Zoe

Agreed. I’m hoping that season 3 ends with Sookie finding Eric on the road in his “condition” (sorry–trying to avoid spoilers!) At the end of both S1 and S2, they did introduce the main plot of the next book/season, so it’s entirely possible–plus a GREAT idea. Book readers–can’t you just imagine the awesome potential cliffhanger scene at the end of the season 3 finale? I’m getting excited just thinking about it!

      • Olive

Agreed wechamp! Book 4 is my favorite and I am so excited to see it come alive. Zoe I also agree that Eric will show up at Sookie’s house “in his condition.” We might get a glispe of Hallow too considering we met Maryann in Season 1. Book 4 will also mean a lot more Pam, which I am also excited for.

    • rewolfe

I’m a huge fan of Bill but an even bigger fan of Eric. I liked book 4 because Sookie and Eric were finally together and the possibility of see more naked Eric is always good in my book.

    • Olive

Lots more Eric and an ass-kicking Pam.

  • Romy

    FIRST!!!
Renew for a fourth season??? I’m doing a happy dance right now!

  • Eliza Beth

YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!! Thanks for making my REALLY crappy weekend, and crappy Monday better!!!!

Can we pray to get a similar Eric storyline a la book 4?

    • Sarah

      For real!

    • orville

I’d love that (especially since it would mean more Alcide too), but how would they push Bill into the storyline? It’s not as if they’re going to get rid of the character for most of the season since he only shows up very briefly in the book.

      • Strepsi

Yeah I kind of thought the whole Bill with his maker scenes in Season 2 would have been better filler here for that reason.

      • Kathy

Maybe he can be Sheriff of Area 2!

  • sadini

This season is really, really, breathtakingly good so far. I don’t remember being so impressed with season two. The whole Maryann storyline was such a mess.

    • Strepsi

That follows the books. They are all sexy and addictive, like the show, but the whole Maenad plotline in Book 2 was VERY high on the WTF-meter.

Book 3 is the best with sexy vampires and werewolves, and in later books Charlaine Harris goes delightfully over the top with supermodel Fairies. So can’t wait for that!

      • Sookie

But the Maenad was a very, very brief part of the book. Yes, she showed up, attacked Sookie, had a brief fling with Sam, and was drawn to the emotions and violence at the orgy near the end, but can’t recall anything else. Don’t think they even bothered to name her.

  • Aline

Awesome! But 2011. That sounds so far away. Can’t we make it a daily show?

  • FantaticTruebie

Uh, this is NOT new news! I remember hearing about how Season 3 was in and there WOULD be a season 4 of True Blood LAST YEAR!!!

  • Stella

I just finished watching season one this past weekend and have just started season two. I really LOVE this show and can’t believe I didn’t start watching it sooner! Really thrilled to see that it’s been renewed for a fourth season! Eric with shorter is way better than Eric with long hair from season one! ;)

    • Belle

Welcome to the club! And I totally agree with you, Eric with short hair is so much sexier & yummy than Eric with long hair. Once he cut his hair, I was like hello good looking tall glass of water.

      • deeannek

Eric is hot no matter what length his hair is.

Hooker, you-me, bridge GONNA happen! I just love Lafayette. Everybody needs someone as loyal as him as a friend.

  • kajitsu

Didn’t I read last year that Anna Paquin signed a 7-year contract?

    • stephen moyer was on chelsea lately and said everybody had signed on for 7 years.

      • JAMES

That contract is probably with the show itself and not necessarily with HBO.

    • Mrsly69

Great news. I only with they did 15 -20 episodes per year. But I enjoy great scripts and Ture Blood rarely disappoints. Best show on TV, pay or free.

  • Kelly

    YAY!!!
