I am a huge fan of deadliest catch. Although I don’t blame Jake for rasing his dads blood pressure at the end, but Jake do your father proud and get some help. He wanted to be there for you. Please get help brother!!! I know he will be proud of you when you are well! I am sorry for your loss. I felt as though he and you all are my family and I am 45 years old. I will keep watching the show and you all know that not only I but millions will be tuning in and watching you!!! Rest in piece Phil Harris, you will be missed severely. If I were in better shape I would come help you for free! Steve Smith

In an interview Josh said that Discovery and another company helped Jake get into a recovery facility and he is doing well.

Great show and last night was its finest hour. RIP Skipper.

    • Melissa

      Well said, I agree.

  • Holly

I am glad that Phil and his sons had a good moment together with the pictures before the stroke happened.

    • Allen

      me too

Was so glad Phil let it go so fast it was like he knew life was short

    • TyDavis

At what point is it considered selling out and using someone’s death to get ratings..? I understand needing to explain the situation on the show, but is all this other stuff necessary?

    • YUCK

It was Phil Harris himself that wanted it recorded to the very end and I think he would have wanted it to be shown like this, maybe it’s me but I think that Discovery is paying a great tribute to him and his family.

      • Audra

        I AGREE

      • Jessica

I agree. I’m glad Discovery is doing a tribute to him. And Josh came forward and said that it was dad who wanted it to be filmed. The Cornelia Marie is my favorite boat on deadliest catch. And Jake H is my favorite deckhand. Last night was heartbreaking.

      • Allen

        IT helped me

      • Donna F

I agree. It was Phil that wanted to keep filming. It would be more of an injustice if Discovery did not show what happened to him. The next few episodes will be tough to watch, but it is what really happened. Sad as it is.

Have you not read that captain phil wanted it to be video taped and he wanted the world to see it read about it.

    • Mark Vinette

Posting the progress of the passingof Capt. Phil is most likely a very important part of the healing process for Jake and Josh as well as the rest of the family. I wouldn’t have been televised without their consent. Those of us who have watched the program from the beginning came to love Capt. Phil and we thank Discovery Channel for letting us know what happened. RIP Phil you will be missed.

Phil was also the one who pushed for the other boats involved to be a part of Deadliest Catch. It was stated by Sig a couple of times during different episodes of After the Catch. Phil knew he was coming into many homes every Tuesday night, and he probably felt like that was the best way for him to say his good-byes to his fans. Knowing the type of person Phil was, he probably felt like he owed it to us to keep the cameras filming the entire time. He was a great man and a great captain. He will be missed.

DON’T WATCH! Love the show. Best reality show !

    • Keith

Kath: If you don’t like it… DON”T WATCH. The crews of these boats are what reality TV is supposed to be about. Phil Harris will always be remembered because of this fine work by Discovery Channel.

  • Bluejeans

It’s nice that the viewers have shown Jake compassion and understanding, but more important that Phil seemed to forgive Jake so quickly after the pill incident. RIP Phil. You were the best.

    • Rob

Captain Phil Harris was,IS and ALWAYS be the BEST captain there is.We will miss you Sir! Keep riding your Harley!

  • Rob

Almost sixty years old, a combat Veteran, and I have to admit it brought tears to my eyes watching. I had knowledge of his passing prior to the airing of this episode as most fans did but it still choked me up watching the tragic events take place! It’s like losing a member of your own family. You will truly be missed Skipper. Rest in Peace AND GOD be with you Phil!

    • Beth

I bawled like a baby even though we knew what was going to happen

  • rosie

i have been watching this show since it first came out and so have my two sons and let me tell jake please dont feel any guilt the fact that your father was remenising about the past he may have already known something was wrong and wanted to leave you with some good memories, make him proud and get healthy and like i tell my sons when we (his parents ) are gone each other is all you will have left you are eachothers “brothers keepers” and take that to heart.
rest in peace phil dont ever forget where ever you are, you are loved and will always be remembered

    • Allen

      Yep great post

  • Allen

Jake and Phil are one and the same.
Phil said at one time that in his life he had a drinking problem. So he understands what Jake is going through. That hug will save Jakes Life. Not having that cost me a life time. Not able to reconcile with my father was and is the worst thing in my life.
It made me so happy to see them make up fast and makeup fast.
Don’t blame yourself Jake .Your dad loved you and wanted you to be happy

  • william

  • Edie

Wow what a show and with so much more to come. I remember the morning it was annouced on the news of Phil’s passing and Tuesday’s show brought it all back. I too have been watching since the start and everyone of these people feel like family. As I sat and watched the first show of the season I cried knowing what the out come would be, but never did I think it would hit me as hard as it did while watching it. Jake know that we are all pulling for you, keep the faith and know you can do anythng especially knowing your dad was willing to go with you for help. He is with you now and forever in your heart, along with all of ours! Phil may you rest in Peace and God Bless you all.

When I first started watching the show I was mostly interested in Sig and Edgar on the Northwestern. Yet after awhile, the relationship between Phil, Jake and Josh worked it’s way into my heart. It was heart wrenching to watch what happened to Phil. Jake, do not give it a second thought. Your Dad REALLY loved you and still does. Now it’s time to love yourself and put Recovery into your life and make your Dad proud. Right before the painful experience of getting caught pinching your Dad’s pills he told millions of us that it was time for you to make a choice about your future. He said that because he knew that you have the right stuff. I think that maybe God knew that by having things go the way they have, that you would have the chance to really inspire millions of addicts to get clean right along with you. It won’t be easy. It never is. I’m a recovering Meth addict three years sober. If I can do it, so can you. All our prayers Jake.

Just knowing it was coming, ever since the start of the season, didn’t make it easier. Made me start to cry. And it’s gonna get harder.

I saw the crews on Larry King right about when the new season started, and he obviously mentioned the passing of Capt. Phil. If memory serves, I think Sig made a comment to the effect of how it was handled quite well on the show, making me think they have already previewed what we are seeing? Not sure, but it made me think.

  • AFan

And major props to Josh and his calm, smart responses/action under pressure. Capt Phil did good.

  • mykala
