'Law & Order: SVU' exclusive: 'Precious' star circling new ADA post

paula-pattonImage Credit: Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic.comLaw & Order: SVU is close to reaching a verdict on a new full-time assistant district attorney. Sources confirm to me exclusively that Precious actress Paula Patton is in advanced talks to succeed Sharon Stone as ADA.

Reps for NBC and Wolf Films declined to comment.

Last April, Stone joined SVU for a four-episode arc as ADA Jo Marlowe. She replaced SVU vet Stephanie March, who has since moved on.

In Precious, Patton played Ms. Rain, the alternative high school teacher who served as a mentor of sorts for Gabourey Sidibe’s title character. And she was awesome.

Thoughts? Is it high time SVU hired a permanent ADA? Is Patton the right woman for the job? Hit the comments!

She may have been awesome in “Precious,” but she was especially horrendous in “Just Wright.”

Just wright was tape two years before Precious was. this women is GOOD.

      • Kristina

Well glad she improved her acting skills then, because “Just Wright” was simply unwatchable – especially her scenes.

I don’t understand this….why are they sending Sharon to the cellar? She’s a very good Oscar nom’d actress…and she’s a veteran name…this makes me suspicious of Hollywood’s method of casting.

wow they seriously need to STOP switching ADAs. haha, although I think she will be good for the role… I still like Steph March better.

    • jared4ever

I hated Stephanie March, She was like a wooden Barbie doll.

As long as she sounds like a man. L&O only seems to hire women with deep voices to play ADA’s. Angie Harmon, Stephanie March, Diane Neal… If she might need an Adam’s Apple to cover her enormous larynx, give her the job!

Have you even seen Seasons 2-4? Did you not notice her progression from lawyer with a political agenda to lawyer with a heart?

It’s not the character she played I had a problem with, It’s her acting skills, or lack therof.

      • Lisa

I didn’t like Stephanie March at first, but she grew on me. There are a lot of stiff people in this world. I prefer to think of Stephanie’s character that way, rather than her simply being a poor actress.

Ever watched Baby Killer, Countdown, Pique, Scourge, Inheritance, Care, Ridicule, Monogamy, Protection, Execution, Surveillance, GUILT, Justice, Denial, Competence, Deception, Disappearing Acts, ANGELS, Waste, JUVENILE, Damaged, Rotten, MERCY, Tortured, Privilege, Appearances, FALLACY, FUTILITY, Manic, LOSS, Ghost, LEAD, Liberties, HARDWIRED, TURMOIL, Anchor, QUICKIE, Savior, CONFIDENTIAL and WITNESS?! Bet you haven’t. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be saying SUCH stupid thing! Do your homework before making a complete and utter fool of yourself.

      • jared4ever

Ok, if I were Stephanie March I would be getting a restraining order right now. Karen is a delusional psycho.

      • Amanda

@jared4ever Really? REALLY? I mean, how sad is it that you came all the way long just to post that? Gawd, where did the brain-dead idiots come from? Jeez!

      • Karen

Well, I may be “a delusional psycho” as you so politely put it, but I’m definitely not an ignorant a$$hole. Thank you very much!

  • Leigh

They should never have gotten rid of Alex. She just got back from witness protection only for them to kick her off again! Bad move SVU writers!

    • mary q contrary

      agreed, agreed, agreed, etc.

    • AJ

Stephanie March left, they didn’t “kick her off again”. It was her choice.

      • Danny

        Who said that?

    • Alix

Sounds to me like maybe Stephanie March decided to go. Though where she’s going to find another acting job, I don’t know. She seems to have a very limited range…

And why do all ADAs have to be women, anyway? Or tall, thin, pretty and white, for that matter? Cast some schlumpy short dude, just for a change of pace.

    • jennrae

Yeah, they seem to have a revolving door over there. If they hadn’t planned to get Alex back and keep Alex, I wish they would have never let Casey go (and I’m not even a fan of Diane Neal). The show works so much better with a consistent ADA. Christine Lahti and her crazy face that she insisted was free of any procedures was the absolute worst.

      • kellybelly

The red-head DA – Diane Neal – was “let go”. It was a total surprise to her. Ausielly, I believe, broke that story.

      • tania

I agree, it took me a while to get attached to both steph march and diane neal, but I fell in love with both of them.

Seriously? Nah. I think they should hire AJ Cook from Criminal Minds. She deserves another awesome role and she’d be GREAT on SVU.

    • Brooke

I wouldn’t wish that on AJ at all. SVU has never been on the same level as CM.

      • Shin aka CriMiBird on twitter

AJ has been forced off CM. SVU is a good show too. Its something they should look into.

      • dj

I like AJ-she was good on CM. Didn’t see “Precious” so not familiar w/Paula Patton. Whoever they decide on-I hope they keep them. I’m tired of their changing all the time. PS-I will always like Alex.

      • Kay

If anything I would hope AJ get’s picked up in the new L&O: LA. I wouldn’t want her moved to SVU. This show has turned into the biggest joke.

    • LaShawna

I could TOTALLY get behind that decision, though I still hold out hope CBS/Criminal Minds producers change their mind and put her back on Criminal Minds full time.

I’m glad to see them considering a woman of color for the ADA spot. But, as a fan, I have to mention I miss Stephanie March already.

    • raprilc

Exactly my sentiments. Glad they got somebody with melanin. Sorry to see that Stephanie March isn’t coming back.

I’m happy to hear about this. She’s a great actress and could use the exposure. Maybe I’ll start watching SVU again if she’s on.
