I havent read ALL of these… but im REALLY unhappy to hear that J.J. will not be back full time and Emily will only be part time!!! WHY do they messs with something that works SO WELL!! I love this show but may not be liking it so much if J.J. and Emily are NOT returning for GOOD!!!

  • Sue

I love the JJ character on CM. I don’t think anyone is going to be able to replace her, what with her soulful eyes that show so much compassion in such a pitiful world.

  • jo

when i was sick and spent a lot of time on the couch I happened to watch Criminal Minds. it wasn’t long that I got hooked on the show and have loved it so much I just keep watching the reruns .
Tonight when I was watching it (as I now understand this happened before and was one of the episodes I missed) I was shocked to find out that J>J> was leaving the show, it saddened me to
see that the show won’t be the same and now I find out that “Emily is also going to be gone.they are a great team together and I am disappointed as it will not be as great a team as it has been. I hope the producers can read all these protest.

  • donna

no, 2-3 shows were worthless, the show is not the same without her. what a loss!!!

  • Kathryn Butler

Bring J.J. and Prentiss back. Not just for a few episodes but full time.
They both bring something special in their roles,
It might influence my continued viewing of the show.

  • tresorparis

You¡are¡amazing! This weblog is so great. I really hope a lot more people read this and get what you are saying, ¡¯cause let me tell you, it¡¯s critical stuff. I never would have thought about it this way unless I would run into your web site. Thanks for sharing it. I hope you¡¯ve excellent achievement.

  • Peggy

A lot of us really like the show, but we also like it the way it was. New people can;t always fill the shoes of the original cast. I may not be so anxious to watch anymore. I do wish the ladies well in their new shows.

  • jojo

What kind of MORONS continually feel the nee to “Fix” what isn’t broken?! You let go of incredibly talented and believable JJ and replace her with a mediocre and not very believable talent. I LOVE this show (I have seasons 1 – 6) but I smell the beginning of the end coming thanks to some egotistical KNOW NOTHINGS!!

  • Toni Head

The criminal minds team Is & makes the show they are one family & made the show what it is. A GREAT SHOW.I’m 61 yrs old & my huband & I luv the show. best show since Dallas series. Please bring the characters like JJ back to stay & keep the show going. If u mess with the characters u lose viewers. If u need to make changes, make em in the script. Gee Wizz keep a good thing going as long as you can.

  • shelagh edwards

Thanks for taking a wonderful show and turning it in to a show no one is going to watch anymore. JJ should not have been taken off the show–she had it all together and held the show together. What were you thinking??

  • Scooptress

ralfmuel and rena are on the right track.

  • Cinda B

I am so disappointed they are getting rid of the JJ character. I think she was the one most people related to, and the most “normal” of the bunch. I love, love, love Criminal Minds and I’ll still watch it, but it won’t be the same. It makes no sense to me that the producers and writers have carefully built these characters into a “family” of sorts, only to rip it apart. Part of the appeal is seeing how they all relate to each other and JJ is a huge part of that. I’m with others – if you want to cut costs, get rid of Rossi! That character adds nothing to the dynamic and never has fit in.

  • Mac Breck

Who died and left you in charge as the snarky monarch of this place? Take your own advice. Beat it. You come off as a CBS shill.

  • Etheline

Scooptress, what a bore you are! Please aim your high powered discourse elsewhere. Do you even watch this show?

  • rena

Agreed, Etheline. The sad trolling attempt is just weird.

  • m.

It’s cheaper to bring in new character. Old characters will get raise for every season the show is on the air. That’s why Simpsons voice actors are paid more than most of the “real” actors.

  • PK

I agree with you, Erin. And, yes… I’m really going to miss AJ and Paget (hearing that this will be her last year), too. So, one (at least, partial) last season of an excellent ensemble cast, then I’m out of there, too. The nice thing about this day and age, is that there are many networks, and modes of entertainment, to choose from–unfortunately, I think it will be another long gap before I find another drama like this that I enjoy.

  • Princey

Erin, those are my sentiments exactly.

  • Cheery

@ PK: Noooo, where did you hear that?? Prentiss is my fav and if she leaves I’ll have no reason to keep up with the show. As it is, I’m only going to watch the ep’s she’ll be in.

  • Erin

Dont you know CBS stands for?? Complete-Bull-S**t, thats what, Im so upset… Im going to cry, theyve cut my beloved cast for that stupid spinoff, that I, for one, will not be watching. I will, however, be continuing to watch Minds, as long as they dont bring back Elle Greenaway or Jordan Todd, they drove me crazy!!!!

  • Sara

I agree with Erin and Anna. Big mistake getting rid of JJ. I used to like CSI (Vegas) till they got rid of most of the main characters, now its happening with Criminal Minds. Makes no sense to bring in new characters! CBS is cutting its nose to spite its face. So sad.

  • Qo

Well, by the looks of the replies being written here this change is pissing off more than just Alexandria, so since this change is affecting so many CM viewers, they should care, no viewers, no show; no show, no paycheck for them.

  • JoanPowers2004@yahoo.com

Scoopstress works for CBS, ahh, that makes sense, since nothing else this person writes does.

Keep a close eye on her comments, directly from CBS

  • DeeDee

I totally agree. Forrest Whitaker is a good actor but he has mostly done offbeat independent films. He is not known for being mainstream. I could not believe how boring and dry that episode was. If not for the original team being there as well, I would never have watched the whole episode. If the spin off has the same characters and actors, I don’t think it will get far. And they cancelled Cold Case and fired JJ for this!

  • LaShawna

It will be interesting next season. CM and SVU are the only two crime dramas I watch and they are going head to head. I have to figure out which one to watch live and which one to DVR. :)

  • LaShawna

I agree that this whole cast shakeup process is mystifying. CBS seems to have plenty of money for their OTHER high rated shows, so I can’t understand why CM gets the shaft. As for CBS deliberately sabotaging the show, I hope that is not the case. If they wanted to, they could just cancel it, which is what they did with Without a Trace, even though the cast volunteered to take a pay cut. It seems like a sucky business decision, and it would not shock me to see CBS begging AJ to come back down the road, like they did with Jorja Fox on CSI and Adam Rodriguez on CSI: Miami.

  • Sonja

Seriously scooptress shut the f**k up!

  • Ed

    Troll better.

  • Heather

I also happen to love Matthew Gray Gubler; he’s the one who captured my attention on the show right away. And I would be raging for weeks if he left the show. But I wouldn’t write off the show entirely. Because the thing I’ve learned from watching shows like ER and CSI is that the loss of your favorite can be a mixed blessing if their replacement is dynamic enough. So I always give my shows another season to prove themselves.
For example, Bones; I adored Zack Addy since my first episode, and when he was cut, I was crushed. But they replaced his role in the team with some very interesting rotating characters (they cycle through an episode each at a time) and while it makes getting to know the characters a little harder, it’s made losing Zack hurt a little less.
So when it comes to this “new female agent” I’m going to give her a chance. I might hate her, I might love her, and I might take some time to warm up to her. I mean, it wasn’t till season 4 that I had any love for Prentiss, and now I’m going to miss her a lot. But I’m certainly not going to write off change when it may be the thing that kicks up the show again. Who knows until season six anyways?

  • SarahB

Since when was D’Onofrio intensely disliked on LO:CI? He carried LO:CI for years and was the main reason people watched. Adding Noth to the show did not raise ratings. Noth’s leaving did not hurt ratings, the soap opera writing did. The viewers were not disliking D’Onofrio nor Goren, they were disliking the soap opera direction the show had taken.

  • TerryT

Gotta agree with SarahB. D’Onofrio is why I watched LO:CI. When he was replaced I watched a couple of eps with Jeff Goldblum and one-expression Saffron, but the ep with the Irish islanders was so boring I couldn’t stand it and stopped watching.

  • LaShawna

Well nothing is a done deal, especially with CBS. On more than one occasion, they let an actor go, only to bring him/her back later. So it wouldn’t shock me to see AJ asked to return in the future. Your proposal would be an interesting way to use the cast, and it would probably shake up team dynamics. And I totally agree with your idea that CBS should stop chasing the young male demographic. Most demographic studies seem to show that CBS shows skew older. Older may be less desirable to some, but it is the older people who tend to have the money to burn, and often have more brand loyalty than younger men.

  • Pinky

    Hear, hear!!!

  • Marlaine815

I was noticing a pattern here as well, Rob. I am really getting annoyed at the attitude that female characters are interchangeable and the male characters are the mainstays that are kept and lauded. I used to think that Les Moonves was a forward thinking, open-minded man — but I am learning that I was wrong on many levels about that (and this is looking at CBS overall, not just this decision). I’m not liking this new direction at all.

  • Cheryl Graham

I disagree with ShutUpRob that there’s no reason for CBS to change a show to try to get an audience that’ll never be interested in this kind of a show in the first place. The fact of the matter is, virtually everyone who has written in about the loss of JJ and the reduction of Emily’s time has done so BECAUSE of their interest in this kind of show! You may not be old enough to remember what happened in the 80′s when whichever network it was that ran “Cagney and Lacey” (the first female cop duo show), was cancelled and the outraged public that loved the show did exactly what we’re doing, resulting in the show being renewed! It was a first — and perhaps a last -but it does show that networks have paid attention to viewer input in the past. Maybe they’re rich enough now that they don’t need and therefore no longer care what the public interest is. They’ve (the networks) have nixed a lot of good shows that had runs so short they couldn’t possibly have known what the public interest in them was. I’m thinking of the recently run and dropped “Three Rivers” and about five or six years ago, the really great “Presidio Med”. But keep talking about your outrage over losing JJ and Emily. It’s an absolutely asinine move for a high rated show to take away two thirds of their regular female cast who are actually very excellent actresses. Don’t foot yourselves into thinking that the show will be the same with no female influence in the field when the agents respond to the loved ones of the murdered in the show. It CAN NEVER be the same and likely never worth watching again. Maybe the compassionate sides of Hotchner, Morgan and Reid can make it survive, but I think the show will quickly become part of the dead without female influence in the field. And don’t think that a less expensive actress can bring the same influence to the field. Remember Agent Todd’s inability to confront death in the field whens he filled in for JJ while she (JJ) was on maternity leave? She nearly fell apart and you can’t have the compassionate ones falling apart and being effective.Blah, blah, blah. I’ve decided CBS isn’t going to listen, so maybe my energy writing in here is a waste of my time and care. But I did learn something — until writing in about JJ and Emily on CM, I didn’t know that we had also lost “Cold Case” and at least one other show I loved whose title escapes me. I’m not impressed that CBS put a compassionate man (Alex O’Laughlin) from a compassionate show (Three Rivers) to put him in another testosterone driver show, the remake of “Hawaii Five-0″. But my outrage over losing JJ and Emily on CM may keep me writing in. What else can one do with her anger but express it to those who made the decisions?

  • craft1010

Just doing two shows isn’t enough ,really like A.J. character. CBS messes up again!

  • Amanda

    Anna got it exactly right…
Wonder if they will be any smarter than the ones at NBC who’ve run the once strong network into the ground.

CBS should be careful; this is the kind of thinking that put NBC where it is.

  • Amiee

I don’t see how she can fight it. CBS has made up their mind. It’s not like they are negotiation a raise here…they flat out said ” your countract is up and we don’t want you back.” There is nothing she can do in that situation.

  • Heather

I think a lot of people thought that losing Gideon would be the end, but it certainly wasn’t. And that’s the point; this is not the “beginning of the end” but more the end of just another chapter in the Criminal Minds story. Tim, I think you’re on the right track, here, and I’m glad.

  • Doe2005

Elle was also in Angel, as a vampire, for several episodes.

I’ll miss JJ. I hate it when they mess with a successful ensemble cast. She was the soft side to the BAU.

  • Chas

I agree 100%, Rossi could disappear and nobody would even notice. Well, they’d probably notice that the show seemed to have better acting overall, as Joe Montegna is a terrible actor. Fortunately the writers seem to have realized this, as they rarely make him say anything at this point.

  • Pam

Didn’t know about Paget leaving as well as AJ won’t be the same. Criminal minds had a great cast and as viewers, we come to love the members of the cast. Looks like CBS has lost their minds.

  • bibs

i agree with you i have never liked this guy

  • David Brunette

whoever said that change is good is an idiot. This cast worked well together and getting rid of 2 of the 3 females is ridiculous. What next mybe it will be an all male cast. I will not be watching criminal minds unless JJn and Emily return. The show sucks now and CBS needs to learn how to run a show. Do what thry done to Days Of Our Lives. They brought Marlena back 3 times CBS should take notes on what thry did because ofthe ratings.
