It should definitely end with Carell’s exit.
Every time I watch old episode repeats on the cable channels, I’m reminded of the glaringly massive decline of the show in the past couple of years. Save for last year’s Christmas show, it’s been going downhill and picking up steam.
I’m okay with it ending as long as Michael lives happily ever after w/ Holly.
No way NBC lets go of “The Office”.. I just don’t see it happening.
I totally agree. Either they offer Carrell a boat load of cash for a couple more years or they go on without him. I could see them going on with “special guest star managers” who either get fired or quit after a handful of episodes. It would probably be awful but NBC will roll the dice as opposed to completely losing it.
Yeah, there is no way NBC is dumping its top rated scripted show. It still pulls better ratings than all the other Thursday night comedies and I don’t see much on the horizon that could replace it. NBC ain’t an arthouse.
Look at the comments, though. The common opinion is that the show should end after Steve leaves. The ratings are declining anyway, and beyond the initial sampling of a Michael-less Office, they’ll only get worse and create ill will for the show. I love The Office, and I don’t want to see it go the way of Scrubs.
Yes, the show should end with Michael and Holly driving off into the sunset. I hate to say it, but the show has become tired. I would also like if they ended it with someone completely random becoming the next branch manager-like Creed, perhaps?
Either way, when Steve leaves I’ll be done watching.
Agreed…let it end with Carell’s exit.
Todd Packer
please NBC…don’t “Scrubs” The Office.
Exactly.
I know that it was planned. Because they had only 12 episodes the British know how to do things? Imagine if The Office (american version) ended after the Emmy winning 2nd season? Fans would be going crazy and talking about how awful NBC is.
I’ve been a fan from the start, but I’d say 7 years is a good run to be proud of. Hopefully NBC will let it go rather than try to artificially prolong it; already I’m finding that it’s not Must See anymore.
It’s a good thing, the show has definitely gone downhill and leaving before it fully sinks and loses all humor and is remembered as a horrible comedy is a good thing.
I have the perfect ending to this series. It should end suddenly, with the film crew shooting this neverending documentary becoming unable to continue their project, whether due to funds running out, or getting fired by Sabre, or working visas expiring, or whatever. Maybe reveal David Brent as the guy behind the camera. Go totally Monty Python on us.
The writers have made Michael unlikeable for me. I’m much more interested in the supporting characters anyway. They could end it after Steve Carell leaves or they could give it a shot with bigger roles for the supporting characters. I’d be okay with that too.
As long as Michael and Holly wind up together and sail off into the sunset together I’ll be happy.
Brittish shows are far too short and American shows often run far too long… Is there no happy medium? That being said I stopped watching The Office this year and cannot imagine it going on after this next year without Carrel.
I think that if they say that a particular series will only have a certain number of episodes and will actually have an honest-to-goodness conclusion fans will be fine with it. I’m pretty sure more people would tune in too and they could probably (if written well) cast A-list actors since it has an actual end (so said actors won’t have to devote their entire lives to the series).
Two words: Rhys Darby.
